    In the season's last episode, I welcome Dr. Erica Preston-Roedder, philosophy professor at Occidental College. Dr. Preston-Roedder specializes in applied ethics and the philosophy of race/gender, public philosophy, and philosophy of psychology. But on today's episode she brings her current research to the table: multiracial identity formation and family dynamics. In addition to the theory and philosophy, Dr. Preston-Roedder can also pull from her experience as a parent in a multiracial household. We discuss the evolution of multiracial identity, what it means to be a white parent to multiracial black children, and the future for families like hers.     I met Lena my first year of college. At the time, I was making a documentary interviewing Syrian refugees who were living in my hometown Miami. She understood the Arabic from Syria and offered to be my translator. Lena and her family left their home in Syria when she was 13, just as political tensions began to arise. On this episode, she shares her story.     Identity Politics & The Rise of Ethnonationalism w/Dr. Moazzam-Doulat

    In this episode, Dr. Malek Moazzam-Doulat, professor of critical theory at Occidental College, shares his experience as an Iranian-American, who doesn't feel at home in the world. Moazzam-Doulat embraces not ascribing to any given identity, but is also cognizant of how the outside world reacts to him given different contexts. In our conversation, we discuss current identity politics, the purity politics and nativism found on both sides of the political spectrum, and the rise of ethnonationalism on the far-right. Dr. Moazzam-Doulat also offers the nuanced perspective that everyone just wants to go home at the end of the day, in a world that is constantly changing and unfamiliar.
