Joy, love & nostalgia with "Boo & Bambi!"

THE JOY BROADCAST: BOO & BAMBI - A SISTER CONVERSATION ABOUT LOVE, NOSTALGIA & NOT THINKING ABOUT ANYONE ELSE This February, we're exploring love beyond romance. In this special episode, I sit down with my sister Alex (affectionately known as Bambi or Bird) for an intimate conversation about sisterhood, meaningful connections, and the joy of just being yourself. Fresh from our Maldives adventure celebrating my 50th birthday, we dive into questions about nostalgia, childhood memories, modern dating disasters, and what it means to truly switch off from responsibility. IN THIS EPISODE: On Nostalgia & Memory We explore what triggers our memories – from songs and smells to how differently we each process the past. I share how the anniversary of Mum's death affects me through snowdrops and Louis Armstrong, while my sister reveals she's more like Dad, able to leave the past in the past. The Gift of Not Thinking About Anyone Else We discuss what made our Maldives trip so special: the rare luxury of focusing just on ourselves. No kids, no partners, no responsibility for anyone else's happiness – and why that's not selfish, it's essential. The Wisdom of Empathy Alex shares her mantra shift from judgment to empathy – the story about ice creams on a winter school run that changed how she sees people's actions. We explore how we judge ourselves by our thoughts but others by their actions. Childhood Memories & Growing Up From being mistaken for each other on phone calls to Dad, to childhood holidays where we didn't have to worry about anything, we reflect on how adulthood changes the way we experience time off. JOY IS THE ACRONYM FOR JUST ON YOU As I share in this episode, when you're holding so much – children, partnerships, work, household, pets, everything – your main job is to focus on your own energy. You have to spend time every single day focusing just on yourself so you can expand your capacity to hold everything else. Otherwise, you store up resentment, frustration, and exhaustion from over-giving. This conversation is a reminder that the deepest connections allow you to just be yourself, say "I want to go to bed" on your 50th birthday at 10pm, and know there's no judgment. That's love too. JOY101: When to Rock the Boat (and when not to!)

Are you playing it safe when your soul is whispering there's more to life? In this episode of The Joy Broadcast, Ali shares a powerful Joy Code about why movement is essential for happiness and when it's time to rock the boat versus when it's time to hold steady. Drawing from conversations with Joy Rebellion members and her own experience of capsizing her life (and rebuilding it), Ali explores the tension between stability and growth, between contentment and that persistent inner voice saying "you're meant for more." If you're feeling stuck in calm waters but restless for adventure or if you're in someone else's storm this episode is your permission slip. What You'll Learn Why happiness requires movement (according to Arthur Brooks, the "King of Happiness")The difference between intentionally rocking your own boat versus responding to someone else rocking yoursHow to know when it's the right time to make waves (and when it's not)Ali's South of France childhood memory that perfectly captures the joy of rocking the boatThe questions to ask yourself before making any big life changeHow to start rocking the boat gently without capsizing everything on day one Memorable Quotes "When you start to rock that boat, you're starting to make waves. And it's those waves that lead you to movement." "Happiness to me is always the sense of movement of something better that's coming, something just around the corner." "If you're playing it safe, how can you know where you're going to go? Safe to me is like hiding, it's staying small, it's staying where you are." "You can't get to the next level without waves in whatever you want to do, wherever you want to go." "The common thread in all of these is just to come back to you, just on you—your joy, your definitions, your truth, your knowing, your little voice and your boat." Call to Action Are you ready to rock the boat—or do you need permission to hold steady? Ali would love to hear from you: Are you going to rock the boat? Are you stabilizing the boat? What are your worries or fears?Join the conversation inside The Joy Rebellion membership where Ali drops Joy Codes every week and women support each other through life's waves—whether you're creating them or riding them out. https://www.alimortimer.com/

Joy101: Knowing your definition of success

What if your definition of success was the thing secretly blocking your joy AND your wealth? In this powerful episode, I'm kicking off a new series called Joy 101—101 ways to create, use, and bring more joy into your life. And we're starting with the code that changed everything for me nearly a decade ago: rewriting my definition of success. Back in 2015, when I walked away from my 20-year IT consulting career, I wrote down three simple lines:  Success is loving what I do, loving who I do it with, and loving myself in the process.  That definition carried me through a full decade of transformation—from body dysmorphia and not being able to look in the mirror, to building The Joy Rebellion and creating my dream life. But recently, after returning from the Maldives for my 50th birthday, I realised something had shifted. I'd achieved everything in that definition... and now it felt incomplete. This episode is about what happened when I revisited that success definition and discovered the missing piece: money. Not money as greed, but money as the ROOF protecting everything I've built. Money as the overflow that benefits my health, my family, and my clients. Money as strategy, not reward. In this episode, you'll discover: → Why your old definition of success might be keeping you stuck (even if it once served you beautifully) → The three foundational blocks that must come FIRST before wealth can flow → How to add "AND" instead of replacing what already works → Why women especially hold shame and resistance around making "a f**k ton of money" → The power of safe spaces where we can talk about money without being shamed or cancelled → How to write YOUR success definition for who you are TODAY (not who you were five years ago) → Why joy and wealth aren't opposites, they're partners This conversation sparked something powerful in The Joy Rebellion membership, and I knew it needed to reach more women. If you've ever felt conflicted about wanting more money, or if you've achieved "success" but still feel empty, this episode is for you. Action Steps: Your Joy 101 Assignment: Grab your journal and write YOUR definition of success for who you are TODAY, in this era of your life. Ask yourself: What does success mean to me RIGHT NOW (not five years ago)? What am I resisting that might be the missing piece?Where can I add "AND" instead of choosing between things I want? What would success feel like every single day?Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. This is JUST ON YOU. Join the Conversation: If this episode ignited something in you—if you want to explore your money blocks, rewrite your success definition, or have these deep conversations with women who GET IT—I'd love to invite you into The Joy Rebellion. This is the space where we hold each other, where you don't have to hold everyone else, and where joy becomes your strategy, not your reward. The Joy of Having a "Me For Me" Mentor - with Jana Kingsford

How do you go from sabbatical to six figures in one year? You find your "me for me" mentor. This week, I'm sitting down with the woman behind the Joy brand - my mentor, my coach, the person who helped me turn a whisper of "I'm a joy coach" into a thriving, purpose-driven, six-figure business. Meet Jana Kingsford: The Big Dreams Genie, creator of the Me Brand framework, author of eight books in three months (yes, really), and the mentor I followed for years before I was ready to work with her. This conversation is about big dreams, personal branding vs. business branding, why your hair doesn't need to be perfect, and what it means to "raw dog" your personal brand (Jana's words, not mine - but I love it). If you've been following someone for years, if you know deep down who your mentor is but haven't clicked the link yet, if you're building something that feels scary and big and true... This episode is for you. What We Talk About On finding your "me for me" mentor On Jana's origin story: The Big Dreams Genie On Oneology: The book that changed everything On personal branding vs. business branding On "raw dogging" your personal brand (Jana's concept) On Jana's hair (yes, really) On the Me Brand framework On Figure Seven (Jana's private coaching) On 2026 and big dreams Key Quotes Ali: "In 2023, everywhere I looked, it just kept saying joy, joy here, joy there, joy this, joy that. When someone said 'what do you do?' I said 'I'm a joy coach.' And that's when it hit me." "Jana, thank you on behalf of me and all of my listeners and all of my clients for helping me bring Joy to the world." "Your Oneology book is like my Bible. Every line crystallises, alchemizes. I've read it so many times and each time I'm like, YES." "I need someone to hold me through the big dick moments." Jana: "I'm the Big Dreams Genie. If we go back to when it started - 2006, pregnant with my second baby at 22, high school dropout signing up to university." "Four months in I knew: I'm not going to get a job in this field. What's the point? Then I got this rush: Janna, you're here to help women feel capable of their big dreams. Later on this is going to make sense. Trust it, do it." "I accidentally wrote eight books in three months. I've lost track of all the others but I think I'm at eight." "If it's ever about THEM for you, it's a business brand. If you're like 'I'm going to create this for this customer' - you're out of personal brand territory." "Personal branding is you being as YOU as you can be. It's saying what you want to say. It's showing us your Christmas parties, wine at sunset, things we don't expect." "My hair is like a client machine. A client paid me £70K and she's like 'it's just your hair, I just wanted to brush it.'" "Raw dogging your personal brand is living in it, being fully in it. It's life-giving. You're on purpose and there's a universal God-given situation that happens." "People will be like 'how is it working? You literally just show up with your yacht photos and here's Me Brand, buy now.' Because people know you inside out, upside down, round and round." The Joy of Money Matters - with Amy Goodall-Smith

Money. Just reading that word probably made you tense up a little, didn't it? This week - in the final episode of the year and launching into January when everyone's freaking out about finances - I'm sitting down with someone who actually makes money joyful. Meet Amy Goodall-Smith: Chartered Financial Planner, Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, Master's in Finance, and my gorgeous friend from school (yes, we go way back). Amy's job? "I drink coffee, eat biscuits, and chat to people all day long. I spread a bit of money joy everywhere." If you've ever felt overwhelmed by all the noise around money, if you're terrified of making wrong decisions, if you've got pensions scattered everywhere with no strategy, if talking about money makes you feel anxious or ashamed... This conversation is for you. Because here's what Amy knows: Peace of mind is the greatest wealth you can have. Let's bring some joy to your money matters. What We Talk About On spreading money joy On creating a financial strategy On the biggest fears around money On money and emotions On finding forgotten money On overwhelm and simplicity On freedom and choice On Amy's company philosophy On Amy's approach Key Quotes Amy: "My kids say 'Mum, what do you do for a living?' I just say: I drink coffee, eat biscuits, and chat to people all day long. I get to spread a bit of money joy everywhere." "People are so nervous of money and talking about money. They're frightened of it, or they don't feel they know enough, or they're anxious about making decisions." "Siblings fall out over money in inheritance. Divorce becomes so emotional around the cash. 'That's not fair - I've been going and getting the money!' 'I've been at home doing all of this so you can do that!' All those emotions involved in money." "Tackle it with a bit of strategy, take it head on, remove all the shame, take away those fears by starting to talk about it. That's really my driver for everything I do." "I've got this knowledge, I'm really lucky. I can share that with people as much as they want to listen. It's enough to make people say 'okay, maybe it's not that scary.'" "Peace of mind is the greatest wealth you can have. That is true. If you can have that peace of mind with the strategy, then you're all good. You can create the choices." Ali: "The general narrative around money is just one of lack and fear-mongering. I wanted to bring joy to our spending, investing, savings - to talk all about money." "Freedom financially is important. But freedom also comes from having that peace of mind - free from the fears." "You can give them both: freedom from the anxiety and worries by giving them simple knowledge and simple strategies, AND that financial freedom that gives them choice." Connect with Amy Management Website: https://www.goodallsmith.co.uk Instagram: [@goodallsmith_wealth_management ]  Location: Twyford and Henley-on-Thames (but work with clients everywhere via Zoom/Teams) Get in touch and someone from Amy's lovely team will give you a ring to support you in whatever way they can. The Joy of Bah Humbug - with Eleanor Goddard

Not everyone loves Christmas. And that's okay. This week, I'm sitting down with my dear friend Eleanor Goddard - entrepreneur, wife, mum of two twentysomethings - for a conversation that goes deeper than tinsel and turkey. We're talking about death at Christmas (yes, really). About teenagers who still need you but don't think they do. About the pressure of holding everyone and everything together during "the most wonderful time of the year." And about why that pressure? It's actually a privilege. This is a raw, honest, beautiful conversation about navigating loss, aging parents, grown children, and the question that death keeps asking us: What do you want to do with this one life? Eleanor will be back in the New Year to continue this conversation - because somehow we lost the final 10 minutes! But our conversation was too good not to share and she will be back in the New Year! What We Talk About On death and funerals at Christmas. On parents and lossOn squeezing more out of lifeOn the next chapter About Eleanor Goddard Eleanor is the co-owner of Furnish & Fettle Interiors, the design business she runs alongside her husband, Glyn. A proud mum to Newcastle University students Ollie and Hattie—and to Ralph, the family’s lively black Labrador puppy—she balances entrepreneurship with a full and colourful home life. Before launching the business, she built a successful career in medical sales. That chapter ended abruptly when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and the rare neurological condition orthostatic tremor, leading to a profound period of personal challenge. Her health journey included navigating depression and chronic fatigue as she came to terms with the loss of her career and identity.  Driven by curiosity and determination, she immersed herself in research and clinical trials, and today her rheumatoid arthritis is generally well controlled, though flares still occur. Her orthostatic tremor remains her most significant daily hurdle, limiting her ability to stand without shaking—yet it’s also become part of the story that fuels her resilience & drive. She’s recently discovered a passion for cold-water swimming, and often draws on the mind-body tools she gained while training in clinical hypnotherapy after her two hypnobirths. Alongside running Furnish & Fettle, she has also stepped into the world of angel investing, embracing the learning curve, the energy of the community, and the thrill of building a portfolio that supports exciting new ventures. As her experience grows, she is beginning to explore the possibility of sharing her insights more formally—potentially stepping into a Non-Executive Director role to support and guide other founders on their journeys. Manifesting Love & Above (Including JOY) this Christmas - with Dimple

Whether you're nurturing a relationship, longing for more connection, or calling in a new love entirely… this week's episode will speak straight to your heart. I sat down with the incredible Dimple - a woman whose work in love, healing and alignment has changed lives around the world. She's been featured on the BBC, Tony Robbins' podcast, is a best-selling author and international speaker… but what you'll feel most is her energy. Her presence heals. Her voice shifts something inside you. And her teachings open doors - fast. May this episode bring you closer to the love you desire - and the love you deserve. What We Talk About On bringing love back at ChristmasOn the Hawkins Scale & staying in love's frequencyOn manifesting love & connectionOn the "It's Done" mentalityOn Christmas stress & what really mattersOn self-love & boundariesSome of my favourite lines & quotes:  Dimple:  "If you're feeling that you're lacking companionship, where are you not being your own companion?" "I was feeling in my marriage so much neglect and I was blaming him for the neglect. Actually the truth is I was neglecting myself. So I was a match for neglect." "On Christmas Day, if somebody's pissing you off, all I want you to think about is: does this really f*****g matter? Or can I just pull another cracker?" "The frequency of gratitude can only occur if you've received it already. So you're in the frequency of having received it, which means you've already done it." Ali: "We cannot inflict a feeling on somebody else unless they're already feeling it already." "It's loving yourself enough to be able to say, I love myself to remove myself from this situation." "When you align with love, you amplify your joy. And the more joy you feel, the more you become a super-attractor because joy is one of the highest frequencies on the quantum scale." "Setting boundaries and forgiveness are acts of self-love. If you can stay in that frequency of love and ask that question - what would love do? - you're on the path to having a really beautiful, loving Christmas." Book: A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson Quote shared: "Something amazing happens when we surrender and just love. We melt into another world, a realm of power already within us. The world changes when we change. The world softens when we soften. The world loves us when we choose to love the world."
