To discuss our news series : Leading With A Purpose.  City Council Member Lindsey Shaw: I'm running for city council with a vision of hope for Spokane and a commitment to bringing about positive change. As a resident of Northeast Spokane, I've witnessed the unmet needs of our community, and I'm ready to step up as an advocate in city hall. I may not be a career politician, but I am a dedicated neighbor who believes in taking action. Growing up in Northeast Spokane in a working-class family, I learned the values of hard work and community engagement from my single mother. When I began raising my own children in this neighborhood, I couldn't ignore the disparities that had left our area behind. Abandoned houses, unsafe parks, neglected schools, and unequal funding became apparent. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I became actively involved in the Logan Neighborhood Council, organized clean-up initiatives, collaborated with local businesses and nonprofits to enhance our community, and even successfully advocated for improvements in our infrastructure. After nearly five years of chairing the neighborhood council, I realized the power of community engagement. Now, I'm running for city council because Northeast Spokane deserves a dedicated advocate who will fight for our representation and tirelessly work to improve our neighborhoods. School Board Candidate Jamie Stacy: A remarkable individual who hails from the heart of southeast Missouri. Raised in a single-parent household alongside her three siblings, Jaime's life was a unique blend of being the middle child, simultaneously balancing between taking charge and embracing her role as the youngest. One defining element in Jaime's life has always been music. At the tender age of five, she discovered her innate talent for playing the piano, entirely by ear, without any formal lessons. Her musical gift left adults in awe and served as an early realization of her extraordinary talents. Fast forward to the year 2000, Jaime made a significant move from southeast Missouri to the scenic Pacific Northwest. She found love and companionship in Jerry Stacy, whom she married in 2001. Together, they built a loving family with two children, Micah and Mikala. Jaime proudly embraced the role of a stay-at-home mother, often humorously referring to herself as a 'domestic engineer.' After years of dedicated service within her community and nurturing her family, Jaime embarked on a transformative journey. She founded SWAG, an acronym for 'Strong Women Achieving Greatness.' SWAG is more than just a program; it's a vibrant community and a nurturing village, dedicated to paving the way for girls to reach their unique paths to greatness. At its core, SWAG is a powerful prevention and mentoring initiative. It equips and empowers young women in middle and high school, with a strong focus on social and emotional learning. It achieves this by connecting them with exceptional female mentors from the local community who serve as invaluable guides on their journey to success. Jaime's passion for empowering others doesn't stop there. She's also an inspirational speaker, using her platform to uplift and motivate women as they strive to become the best versions of themselves. Currently serving as Vice President of Public Affairs at Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho since 2015, he's now transitioning into the role of an educator. Paul's past roles include Eastern Washington Director for YWCA Youth and Government, where he made a significant impact. He also worked as a legislative assistant to 3rd District Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig and as a legislative assistant to former District 2 Spokane City Councilmember Jon Snyder, where he honed his skills in policy and government affairs. Paul's commitment to his community extends beyond his professional life. He co-founded "Down To Earth," an environmental advocacy and sustainability news blog published by The Spokesman-Review. He's been a valuable contributor to the City of Spokane Parks Department, working in maintenance. Paul's passion for making a difference is further reflected in his extensive board memberships and volunteer activities. Currently, he serves as a board member for Greater Spokane Progress and the Washington Bus. He has also been a past board member for the Center For Justice, Washington Bikes, and the South Perry Farmer’s Market. Our mission is to support and celebrate the beautiful journey of childbirth and postpartum by ensuring that every expectant mother and birthing person in our community receives the invaluable support of a doula during this transformative experience. What is a doula, you might ask? Doulas are skilled professionals who provide emotional, physical, and informational support to expecting mothers before, during, and after childbirth. Their presence has been proven to improve birth outcomes and enhance the overall birthing experience for both mothers and families. Unfortunately, not all people have access to a doula due to financial constraints. This is where we seek your help. We are organizing a community-wide fundraiser to ensure that local doulas can provide their services to families regardless of their financial situation.
