Hempispheres - Trouble in the Trees
As hemp continues to become more connected on the global landscape, as more countries and continents advance and mature their markets, there are relatively few individuals who have been working in the space at a high level, around the world, for more than 20 years. This week's guest is Paul Benhaim and he is one of those individuals who has pioneered the industry since the 1990’s. From hemp foods to hemp plastics to hemp cannabinoid based wellness products, Paul has been innovating with hemp in every hemisphere on Earth. He is the founder of some of the most recognized hemp brands in the world including Hemp Foods Australia, Elixinol Global and The Hemp Plastic Company.
The Delta 8 Debate
D8, Delta 8, Delta 8 THC is popping up everywhere. It showed up in force at NoCo Hemp Expo a little over a month ago and seems to be the hottest thing in hemp currently. But does it belong under the hemp umbrella? Does Delta 8 get you high? Should Delta 8 be regulated like CBD and other non-intoxicating cannabinoids that have become popular consumer health supplements? Hemp-derived CBD supplements that, by the way, still need a clear regulatory pathway defined by the FDA. Or should Delta 8 be regulated alongside Delta 9 THC, in the adult use system, or maybe in some other manner? These questions and more will be discussed with this week's guest Marielle Weintraub, president of the US Hemp Authority, the hemp industry’s self-regulating organization that provides certification for high standards.
Hemp in Hawaii
Hawaii has been known for popular cannabis strains including Maui Waui and Kaua’i Electric for decades, but what about hemp on the islands today? It’s complicated to say the least, and the regulatory structure has left Hawaii farmers struggling to compete with farmers on the mainland. In this episode I sat down with Ray Maki, owner of Hawaii Nexus Hemp Farms, and his associate Jason Fried, to discuss the current landscape of hemp in Hawaii.
When it comes to participating in an industry that is millenia in the making, it seems appropriate and fair that involvement should be far and wide and inclusive. Hemp is a big tent that can allow family farmers, small to large processors and manufacturers, craft product makers, and everyone in between an opportunity to take part in this emerging industry. Author, investigative journalist and hemp farmer Doug Fine has been advocating for regenerative entrepreneurism since I first met him in 2014 when he released his best selling book Hemp Bound. Seven years later that message resonates louder than ever as we can look at the broken systems of society and realistic common sense solutions that can materialize after a global pandemic, where we the people can actually impact and create positive change.
Rise of the Canadian Hemp Industry
Canada has been at the forefront of hemp foods since the late 1990’s and there is no sign of our friends to the north slowing down anytime soon. Today, Canada has legal recreational and medical cannabis in addition to being a leading global producer of industrial hemp. In this episode of Volume Up, host Morris Beegle is joined by co-host Anndrea Hermann of Hemp Production Services along with Rush Shamai, founder of Ruth’s Hemp Foods, and Mike Fata, founder of Manitoba Harvest, as the revisit the early days of hemp becoming legal and the Rise of the Canadian Hemp Industry.
Great info on the hemp industry. Love this podcast. Thanks guys!
Useful info at a minimum
Useful and information at a minimum and hidden between snarky political comments and undertones.
Great info but language
This is full of info that is useful but the language is overboard...the message is not enhanced by use of foul language the entire time. Sorry I cannot keep listening.
