Episode 10: Metal Gear, Kojima, and Video Game Auteurs

Episode 10: Metal Gear, Kojima, and Video Game Auteurs

We are back after another prolonged break with our longest (and possibly best) episode yet! We are joined by our good friend Jeff in discussing the Metal Gear series as a whole, as well as its enigmatic and oft-heralded creator Hideo Kojima. We explore not only a brief history of the series, but also our favorite moments, what makes it so unique, and why we consider Kojima an "auteur" of the gaming world.

This is the first episode that we haven't tried to properly equalize all the audio. The editing work was becoming too long to be worth it on such a long episode, but the audio quality should still be perfectly listenable. We hope you still enjoy it!

Episode 8: The Tactical Brilliance of Final Fantasy Tactics

Our long hiatus is over and we've finally gotten around to releasing an episode we recorded weeks and weeks ago! Back on 4th of July weekend we got to talking about Final Fantasy Tactics, a game that came on the heels of the smash-hit that was FF7 and yet went in a completely different direction. With returning guest Andrew in tow, we discuss what made FFT so different, complex, and infinitely replayable. Check it out!

Episode 7: Storytelling in Video Games

Video gaming has come a long way in its storytelling capacity since its inception - but has it caught up to other media forms yet? In Episode 7, we discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and inherent differences and unique traits of video gaming as a narrative medium. We also touch on the difficulty in adapting games to film or film to games, how big a year 2016 is for video game adaptations, and some of our personal favorite narrative moments in gaming. Enjoy!

Episode 6: Mini Episode #2 - First Impressions of Overwatch

It's an exciting day to finally have an episode where we discuss a game that we are all actively playing together. It's been quite some time since we all dove into a competitive game with one another, but we've done just that with OVERWATCH. In this episode, we give you our first impressions, our favorite characters thus far, and some hopes we have for the future of the game. Overwatch players, unite!

Episode 5: Mini Episode #1 (Hidden Gem Game Recommendations)

Episode 5: Mini Episode #1 (Hidden Gem Game Recommendations)

We've settled nicely into the format of what we want our average episode to be - but we want to mix in some shorter content occasionally as well! In our first "mini episode", we discuss the prospect of playing Overwatch, the current state of the podcast, a short retrospective on our first 5 episodes, and recommend some lesser-known, "hidden gem" type games that you may want to check out. We also talk a bit more about the contest/give-away we will be doing when we hit 100 subscribers on YouTube!
