E49: Stand Up, Royalties, and Kittens with Liz Miele

E49: Stand Up, Royalties, and Kittens with Liz Miele

Liz Miele is a hilarious comic with an awesome special called "Self Help Me" which is available now on YouTube with over 1,000,000 views!

One day she posted on Instagram about the comedy industry's struggle with Spotify, receiving proper royalties, and even some comics' content being pulled down altogether rather than the streaming giant paying them what they were owed.

That inspired me to ask her to come on to talk about that, the modern options for independence, cutting out the middle man, and being able to connect to your fans on your own terms.

We got into Liz's superpower that she didn't always know she had, pushing the boundaries of what makes you comfortable, and the pay-off that can come with it.

Follow her on both Twitter and Instagram @lizmiele where you can find plenty of clips, content, and kittens (never wished that word started with a c more than right now).

You can also get her book, "Why Cats are Assholes" (true), and after you listen to this episode, you'll know that the final product is worth more than the sum of its parts.

Her podcast: "2 Non Doctors" with Maria Shehata is another look into her viewpoint on things that I personally really enjoyed and connected with.

She's got plenty of tour dates coming up all around the world, so buy some tickets at https://lizmiele.com/ or come to the Big Apple with me to see her at the home clubs!

E48: Is Reading Cool? with Melanie Ressa

E48: Is Reading Cool? with Melanie Ressa

How do you do an episode on books, when the audience didn't know about it in advance? If you pick a specific book, they won't have read it yet...

I've been trying to work through this predicament since I started the podcast, and I think this episode finally helped me figure it out.

A little bit less of a structure, a little bit more philosophical talk, and breaking down the habits that we all get into, but never really compare to one another.

Let's talk books, and reading, with my friend Melanie who read an INSANE 84 books in 2021, and I am jaw-droppingly astonished that 84 is a real number (well I know it's a real number...but you get it).

Follow Mel on Instagram at @mellress.

E47: Dear Stevie Nicks, Don't Hate The Player...Hate The Game

E47: Dear Stevie Nicks, Don't Hate The Player...Hate The Game

I'm honestly not sure what to say about this one, so I'll try to summarize it with a poem:

    Schedules Change

    Out on La Grange

Not every ep is at the ZZ top

Not every step becomes a hop

Sometimes we sing, because that's just me

Apologize? Only if I lose a bee

    In the hive

    We thrive

    Together

    Forever

    I can't get enough

    Tonight is the night

    It's the night of love

    ...it's the night of love

Aaaanywho, follow me @thelink_podcast on Twitter and/or Instagram for more of this kind of stream of consciousness...and no, I won't blame you if you refer me to a psychologist.

    Until next time...

E46: Top 5 Albums, TV Shows, Movies, Books, and Podcasts from 2021

E46: Top 5 Albums, TV Shows, Movies, Books, and Podcasts from 2021

For years now I've been posting my Top 5 lists across all genres on my social media. So, why not turn it into podcast form?

Treat these as recommendations of things to watch, or if you already have, let me know if you agree or disagree @thelink_podcast on Twitter and/or Instagram!

2021 may have sucked, but there was still plenty of cool stuff, and I struggled mightily to narrow it down to 5 in some places, so here goes nothing.

Happy New Year, and I look forward to 52 more episodes of this pod in 2022...and like maybe ending the pandemic and stuff. A boy can dream.

    Until next time...

E45: Christmas Movies with my family

E45: Christmas Movies with my family

Christmas may have come and gone, but the spirit is still around. We're wrapping up the holiday-season-themed episodes with my family joining me to talk about the best Christmas movies. Been teasing this one for a few weeks, and the time is finally here.

Who doesn't like the Grinch? Is "Die Hard" a Christmas movie? "Miracle on 34th Street" vs." It's a Wonderful Life." Those topics and more, in another special episode with the most fun guests I could ask for.

Yelling at your phone or computer about how insane our takes are? I'd love to hear it, so leave a comment or reply @thelink_podcast on Twitter or Instagram.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year.

    Until next time...

BONUS EPISODE: Extra Holiday Cheer with Jess Vitolo

BONUS EPISODE: Extra Holiday Cheer with Jess Vitolo

It's Christmas, how could I not give the listeners a gift?

If you listened to E44 with Santa (which you should...I mean...it's Santa), you may have heard Jess sing on the outro, but she's got a lot more to talk about here. We got into some previous pod episodes, Christmas songs, movies, and of course, a bunch of Beatles' talk on the back of my "Get Back" review with my dad.

For the steady listeners, this will feel like home. For the newbies, this is a great intro to the vibe.

Best of all, no ads, no plugs (alright probably some plugs, but come on, throw me a bone, it's Christmas), all fun.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and I'll see you all back here on Monday to round out 2021. What a year it's been.

An Interesting Take on Entertainment

Host Mike sets out to link together his varied interests through engaging interviews with a slew of guests. This is one of those shows where I know that there’s a little something for almost anyone. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into the production of this podcast, and that is something that should be acknowledged and applauded.
