I’m a big podcast guy and as such I try to find a podcast for my interest and hobbies, which includes soccer and the Loons. I’m so thankful for Dan and Matt, as I think they’re producing not only the best podcast about the Loons we have, but one of the best MLS fanbase podcasts.
It’s the perfect format that makes it approachable and accessible: it’s two fun, affable guys that cover the spectrum of soccer fandom, from expert to newbie.
They’re professional enough that they now get interviews with local and MLS media (which we’re very, very lucky to have the likes of Marthaler and Greder, other marks don’t have writers like that for their team) and interviews with the team, which have an element of guys just gabbin’ that I appreciate and you don’t normally get from player interviews. They seem to let their media-trained guard down just a little bit.
It’s well-made with good audio quality (which far too many shows drop the ball on), and most importantly for a successful podcast, they’re *consistent*. To truly build a great podcast following, your listeners have to look forward to an episode each week, and I for one am always excited and anticipate a new episode of The Loony Bin when it hits my podcast app (I’ve even put it in my Pocketcast queue as one that hits the top when new episodes arrive).
