Leading Up to the Trade Deadline

These 10 games coming out of the All-Star break and leading into the trade deadline are/were big for the Mets. Heading into Monday, they’ve already lost twice to the lowly Marlins in a series they should have been able to win 3 of 4 games at minimum, and their offense has slumped again, leaving a ton of runners on base. Does playing .500 ball up and team aiming afloat until the deadline guarantee they remain buyers rather than sellers or did they have to play substantially better than that? Luckily, they teams they’re battling with outside of St. Louis (Arizona, Pittsburgh, San Diego) haven’t pulled away, and that in itself should help them remain as buyers you would think.

As far as trade candidates, are there any particular bullpen arms you have your eye on them acquiring? Same goes for possibly another outfield bat to play in right field. Or do you see any young guys on the cusp at Triple A getting a call-up to see if they can contribute?

Thanks guys! — Tom from NJ

What if the Mets totally changed the way pitching is used. Am I crazy?

Go to a six man rotation hoping to get five innings but obviously going as deep as normal. But then rather than using multiple relievers use finishers! Example Severino goes six Buttó goes three.

The finishers are starting pictures that just can’t go through the rotation more than twice.

Closers finish games when the finishers become ineffective or when no finishers are available due the only having 4.

The Mets have a very deep starting pitching and it’s crazy to not use them simply because it hasn’t been done in the past. Using this also keeps your finishers stretched out to be ready if any of the starters get injured.

Example pitching roster

Starters goal 5 innings pitched
Severino
Scott
Sanga
Peterson
Manaea
Quintana

Finishers goal 4 innings pitched
Buttó
Megill
Lucchesi (Hamel Stewart Sprout etc)
Houser

Closers goal 1 innings pitched
Diaz
Nunez
Maton

LGM. 5 star rating !

I’m not sure why my name comes out all weird. It’s Oliver Gutierrez, formerly from Manhattan now living in Coconut Creek where Christian Scott is from. Hoping my son follows his footsteps. Shootout to Coconut Creek Little League.

Would you be okay with Alonso leaving and putting Mark Vientos in his spot?
I assume Mauricio would take 3rd base.

Would you get rid of Diekman and Ottavino even if we don’t trade for bullpen support during the deadline?

LGM. My fave podcast.
