Ep. 118 Golf's Fine Line Between Form and Frustration

Send us Fan Mail It’s Masters Week, so naturally the conversation starts with big names, predictions… and that quiet feeling that maybe the game isn’t too far away. The boys start with the March Yearly Championship results, a tightly packed leaderboard, and another appearance from the Dice of Truth that raises just enough questions to keep things interesting. But the heart of the episode is Steve’s latest competition round. And it’s one of those rounds that’s hard to pin down. At times, it looks like things are really starting to click. The ball striking is solid, the patterns are better, and there are moments where a good score feels within reach. But golf being golf… it doesn’t quite unfold that simply. A few key moments shift momentum, and suddenly the round becomes something else—less about scoring, and more about understanding where the game actually sits. That’s where Andy leans in. Because while Steve can feel the progress, the scorecard tells a slightly different story. And somewhere in between those two things is where the real insight lives. There are still plenty of highlights along the way, including a standout performance from Pilgrim Benny Walker, and a few moments that remind you why we keep coming back to this game. By the end, one thing is clear: The game is moving in the right direction…  it’s just not quite all showing up at the same time yet. And that might be the most relatable place in golf. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. Ep. 117 From ICU to the 18th Green

Send us Fan Mail This week is bigger than golf. Steve shares a deeply personal update about his son’s recent health crisis and new diagnosis, how quickly life can flip, and the emotional rollercoaster of navigating hospitals, uncertainty, and a whole new normal. It’s a raw reminder that golf matters — but family matters more.  From there, the boys turn back to the fairways. Andy breaks down his competitive round:  A rollercoaster 77 (35 points)  Two birdies, two doubles, and plenty of lessons  A big putting mindset shift — moving from mechanical focus to outcome-based intent  Why a change in focus unlocked his best strokes on the greens in ages The conversation also dives into:  GPS yardage drama and why rangefinders still matter  A look ahead to the Duntry Seniors Why expectations, headspace and enjoyment matter more than ever  The value of changing your putting focus — even if just for a round This one is part life perspective, part performance reflection, and part honest, relatable golf chat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. Ep. 115 Fix the Plane, Fix the Game

Send us Fan Mail The boys are back with a full Duntryleague competition debrief — and this one had everything. A 13-point front nineA double after a flushed punch through a tree tunnelA shank...And then… seven straight pars a few days laterSteve takes us inside a rollercoaster Stableford round at Duntryleague in Orange, including one of the best (and one of the worst) shots of his golfing life. But the real breakthrough came afterwards in the High Performance Centre. After struggling with a two-way miss off the tee, video revealed the culprit:  👉 A takeaway getting whipped too far inside  👉 A flat backswing  👉 A steep throw in transition One small swing-plane fix later… fairways found and seven consecutive pars. The episode dives into: Why driver confidence disappears so quicklyThe importance of regular video check-upsHow swing plane flaws can affect both driver AND wedgesWhy consistency beats flashes of brilliancePrep for the Duntry SeniorsA new training aid incoming (TRS Slider)There’s promise in the game. Ep. 114 Pain Free and Dangerous!

Send us Fan Mail Andy is back. After months of landscaping, wrist pain, and limited golf, Episode 114 marks his return to competitive play — and it delivers. In this episode: A pain-free 18 holes (thanks to a simple pre-round tweak)A 79 in the first comp round of the yearNo snap hooksNo doublesIncreased clubhead speed without extra effortA deeper understanding of ground forces and weight transitionAndy shares how studying concepts from Titleist Performance Institute and applying ideas often seen in players like Justin Thomas has reshaped his swing — particularly around pressure shift and using the lead side properly. The result? A 5% jump in clubhead speedMultiple flushed irons (including a “three-quarter” 7-iron that went 154m…)Two makeable birdie chances lateA gritty up-and-down on 18 to break 80It wasn’t perfect. There were sloppy bogeys. Mental lapses. A few “how did that go 181 metres?” moments. But it feels close. Really close. This episode dives into: Why pain-free golf is a massive winHow tension creeps in when a good score is buildingThe importance of getting off “the train”Why no doubles is a bigger stat than you thinkAnd why 2026 might be shaping up very nicelyMomentum is building. The swing is holding up under pressure. And the snap hook might finally be on notice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Join the fun by entering The Missing Links Yearly Championship to compete with Steve, Andy and other Pilgrims from all across the world. Ep. 113 Rockstar Mindset: What Ed Sheeran Taught Us About Golf

Send us Fan Mail This week Pilgrims, we swap scorecards for stadium lights. After both catching Ed Sheeran live in Sydney (70,000 strong… twice), Steve and Andy ask a simple question: What can a global superstar teach two middle-aged golfers chasing sporting glory? Turns out… a lot. In this unexpected but surprisingly powerful episode, we unpack: 🎯 Growth Mindset in Action – From playing pubs to selling out stadiums, Ed’s long-game perseverance is the blueprint for golf development.🛠️ Loving the Grind – Why enjoying practice (not just performance) is the real secret sauce.🎵 Tempo & Rhythm – What Ed’s looping precision under pressure teaches us about staying smooth in the golf swing.🧠 Thinking Out Loud – Using verbal commitment in your pre-shot routine to sharpen clarity and intent.🤝 Collaboration & Team – Even solo artists need support. So do golfers.📈 Providing Value – Why deliberate practice is how you “love yourself” in performance.⛳ Shot Shape Simplicity – Fall in love with the "shape of you" (well, your shot shape at least) and build confidence around it.🔥 Managing “Bad Habits” – Because we’ve all had those rounds.Plus… the unbelievable (and apparently true) story of the time Ed accidentally cracked Justin Bieber in the face with a golf club. Yes. That happened. No golf was played this week — but plenty was learned. If you’re serious about improvement, this episode is a reminder: Success isn’t built on the big stage. It’s built in the quiet hours when no one’s watching. Rock out, Pilgrims. 🎸⛳

Ep. 112 Playoffs, Pressure & A Putting Identity Crisis

Send us Fan Mail January’s Yearly Championship round is done — and it was ruthless. For the first time ever, ties are settled with The Die of Truth, and the virtual playoff delivers nerves, chaos, and the usual champagne podcasting! Then things get weird... Steve tests left-handed vs right-handed putting over nine holes — same greens, same reads, alternating hands. Is it a breakthrough? A mid-life putting crisis? Or the start of carrying two putters in competition? There’s discussion of: Pressure vs preparationDominant eye theoryWhether four putters in the bag is genius or insanityAnd why sometimes not overthinking tee-to-green produces your best ball strikingThe search for middle-aged sporting glory continues… one experimental stroke at a time.
