Even in 2026, female-specific conditions, such as endometriosis, preeclampsia, uterine tumours, and the menopause still remain largely a mystery. Scientists in Valencia are trying to turn this around, hopefully changing the lives of the future generation of women. How? By figuring out how the uterus works exactly. But what if unravelling these conditions is not as straightforward as expected?

    At the Carlos Simon Foundation in Valencia, young researchers are waiting to unravel the mysteries of the uterus. Because even though their ambitions rise through the roof, the number of tissue samples does not. I am lucky: a myoma, a benign tumour, has just arrived and I follow Carles in the lab while he processes the sample. Mari Carmen is unsure if her piece of the endometrium is big enough. I also meet Maria Cristina and Ana, both waiting on tissue samples to answer questions about pre-eclampsia and the menopause, respectively. Find the transcript and references here.
