Early Success Isn’t an Accident. What It Actually Takes to Build a Sustainable ND Career with Dr. Kate Ferguson

On this episode of The ND Gap, I sit down with Dr. Kate Ferguson, ND, a 2019 graduate who built a thriving, evidence-based practice in just a few short years, during one of the most uncertain periods in healthcare. Kate’s story challenges the narrative that early grads need decades before they’re “ready.” We talk about what really drove her growth: saying yes before she felt ready, investing in support even when it felt risky, unlearning parts of her training, and building consistency in both practice and business. We also dive into imposter syndrome, redefining success beyond being fully booked, the role of mentorship and community, and why confidence often comes after action, not before. ---- Welcome back to The ND Gap, the podcast about the space between where naturopathic medicine is today and where it needs to go. I chose a career in Naturopathic Medicine because I knew that I wanted to find a way to truly help women find optimal wellness. I believe everyone deserves to understand what is happening in their body, learn how to best support their own health, and be the primary decision maker in their own health journey. It was my own struggles with weight, anxiety, and PCOS as a teenager that led me to a career in Naturopathic Medicine. I needed a plan to manage my health concerns that didn’t rely on band-aid solutions to treat symptoms, but rather a strategy and plan that focused on what really mattered with my hormonal health. With the help of evidence-based, lifestyle medicine, I was able to harness my hormones, and develop my own path to wellness. It is my goal to help you find your drivers seat, take control of your health, and reach your vision of optimal wellness. I am committed to spending time with you, listening attentively to your concerns, and developing a targeted individualized treatment plan to address them. Building a Naturopathic Practice in a Small Community with Dr. Laura Jasmin, ND

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan sits down with Dr. Laura Jasmin, ND, to explore what it really looks like to build a meaningful, impactful career in naturopathic medicine, especially when you don’t practice in a big city. Laura shares her journey of returning to her small hometown to open a practice, growing a referral-based clinic through community connection, and eventually expanding her impact far beyond the four walls of her office. Together, Jordan and Laura unpack how local relationships, evidence-based practice, and clinician community can shape not only individual careers but the profession as a whole. They also dive into Laura’s work in maternal and postpartum mental health, including the gaps she saw in care, why screening and support matter, and how clinicians can hold uncertainty with confidence, both with patients and with one another. ---- Welcome back to The ND Gap, the podcast about the space between where naturopathic medicine is today and where it needs to go. Covid and Hair Loss: What This Connection Is Teaching Us About Patient Care

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan dives into one of the most common and emotionally charged concerns clinicians are seeing post-pandemic: hair loss after COVID infection. Using telogen effluvium as a clinical framework, Jordan walks through what the research now shows about COVID-related hair shedding, including timing, prevalence, and why the severity of infection doesn’t predict who will be affected. She explores how metabolic stress, caloric restriction, iron status, and overlapping androgenic hair loss can complicate the clinical picture and patient expectations. More importantly, this episode focuses on how we talk to patients about hair loss. From explaining hair growth cycles and delayed onset to navigating the emotional impact and managing expectations around regrowth timelines, this is a practical conversation about assessment, communication, and partnership in care. ---- Welcome back to The ND Gap, the podcast about the space between where naturopathic medicine is today and where it needs to go. The Rise Strategy Workshop Episode

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan takes listeners inside the Rise Strategy Workshop, an in-person event where nearly 50 clinicians spent two days tackling leadership, goal setting, and the elements that fuel passion in practice.  This episode features experienced clinicians sharing the advice they wish they’d received when starting out: the mistakes, the setbacks, and the lessons about patience, consistency, and believing in yourself when challenges arise. Jordan opens by reflecting on how difficult it was as a new graduate to find honest guidance. While everyone seemed “busy” or “everything’s great,” true growth comes from putting your work on the table, hearing feedback from peers and mentors, and learning from their insights. At Rise, she invited seasoned clinicians to take a risk: support someone walking a few steps behind them in their career. This episode captures that wisdom, openly shared so listeners can benefit from it without repeating the same mistakes. Her message is simple: listen, then pass it along, over coffee, at a conference, or to a new grad who needs it. Mentorship isn’t just a one-way street, and when clinicians lift each other up, the entire profession thrives. ---- Welcome back to The ND Gap, the podcast about the space between where naturopathic medicine is today and where it needs to go. The Successful Associate. How Defining Success (and Collecting Experience) Brings Success with Dr. Ashley Chauvin, ND

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan sits down with Dr. Ashley Chauvin, an associate at Clarity Health, to talk about building a successful career without owning a clinic. Ashley gets real about her journey, how it took a decade to find her “forever home” as an associate, and how every clinic along the way taught her what she needed to thrive. From starting as a radiation therapist, completing a residency in cancer care, to navigating multiple associateships (some she approached like dating, others like marriage), Ashley has collected experiences that shaped her into the confident, skilled clinician she is today. Jordan and Ashley unpack what success really means when society tells you clinic ownership is the only path. They get honest about the ups and downs of associateships, from being charged for paper to working mandatory holidays to finally finding a clinic that supports her growth beyond one-on-one patient care. Ashley also shares the cost of being a highly thoughtful professional and how she learned the difference between genuine support and people who drag you along. If you’ve moved around as an associate or are wondering if you can succeed without owning a clinic, this conversation is for you.  ---- Welcome back to The ND Gap, the podcast about the space between where naturopathic medicine is today and where it needs to go. Getting Oriented for 2026: The Next Iteration of Clinical Support at TCC

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan shares where The Confident Clinician is headed in 2026 and why this next phase of clinical support matters more than ever. The conversation focuses on what it actually takes to practice well right now: making decisions when the evidence is imperfect, navigating clinical trade-offs with confidence, and staying grounded when uncertainty shows up in the visit. Jordan explains why guidelines and shared frameworks don’t replace clinical judgment, but instead help clinicians think more clearly under pressure. She also introduces the next iteration of clinical support at TCC and how the focus is shifting from education alone to helping clinicians orient themselves in real time, inside real patient complexity. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by conflicting information, unsure how to move forward with confidence, or tired of carrying clinical uncertainty on your own, this episode will help you feel more anchored as you head into 2026. Tolerance for Turbulence: How to Keep Going When Things Get Hard

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan gets candid about something we all face but rarely talk about: what happens when our tolerance for everyday annoyances runs dry, and how it can ripple through our patient relationships and businesses. She opens up about the COVID years, when even the smallest slip, being eight minutes late or a typo in a treatment plan, felt catastrophic, and how those moments ultimately shaped her decision to step away from patient care.  More than just a personal story, Jordan dives into what it really means to have a “tolerance for turbulence” and why it’s not about tolerating toxicity or abandoning your boundaries. ---- Welcome back to The ND Gap, the podcast about the space between where naturopathic medicine is today and where it needs to go. Bridging the Gaps in Menstrual Health Education with Dr. Anne Hussain, ND

This week on The ND Gap, Jordan sits down with Dr. Anne Hussain, ND, author, clinician, and an important voice in menstrual health equity. Anne shares the story behind her work, including what it was like growing up between Pakistan and Canada with almost no menstrual health education, and how that experience shaped her commitment to accessible, evidence-informed care. Jordan and Anne explore what it means to practice in the gray zones of medicine: how to support patients when there isn’t a definitive answer, why clinicians often struggle with uncertainty more than their patients do, and how nuance can actually strengthen the therapeutic relationship. They also talk about leadership, imposter syndrome, and the role of social justice in reproductive health.
