Mastering Boundaries and Resilience in Naturopathic Medicine with Dr. Carly King

In this episode of The ND Gap, Dr. Jordan Robertson sits down with Dr. Carly King to talk about the decisions, challenges, and mindset shifts that have shaped her career, from building a thriving integrative practice to navigating high-risk pregnancy, kidney failure, a kidney transplant, and becoming one of the leading educators in perinatal care. Together, they explore the importance of boundaries, evidence-based decision-making, collaboration with other healthcare professionals, and why some of the most meaningful career growth comes from embracing uncertainty rather than avoiding it. This conversation is a reminder that success isn't about having all the answers. It's about continuing to grow, staying curious, and having the courage to move forward even before you feel ready.---- Dr. Carly King, ND, is a naturopathic doctor, educator, researcher, and international speaker with a clinical focus on fertility, pregnancy, postpartum care, and pediatrics. She is an adjunct professor at McMaster University and teaches for The Confident Clinician Club, where she is passionate about helping clinicians critically evaluate emerging research and translate evidence into practical, compassionate care. Carly's perspective extends beyond the clinic. Her own journey has included high-risk pregnancies complicated by kidney disease and preeclampsia, time spent in the ICU and NICU, parenting a child with a neonatal stroke, chronic kidney disease leading to kidney transplantation, divorce, single motherhood, and building a business through it all. Those experiences have profoundly shaped how she practices medicine, reinforcing the importance of combining scientific evidence with empathy, resilience, and patient-centred care. Whether she's teaching, speaking, or seeing patients, Carly is passionate about helping clinicians feel more confident in their clinical decision-making while recognizing that behind every diagnosis is a person navigating their own story. Path to Practice: Creating a Practice That Fits You

How did you decide how long your patient appointments should be? If the answer is "because that's what everyone else does," this episode is for you. In this solo episode of The ND Gap, Jordan Robertson challenges one of the most overlooked decisions practitioners make: appointment length. But this conversation is about much more than your calendar. It's about building a practice intentionally instead of inheriting someone else's model. Jordan explores why longer appointments often lead to better patient outcomes, stronger retention, fewer follow-up questions, and a more sustainable practice for both clinicians and patients. Along the way, she shares how changing one seemingly simple decision transformed the way she practiced medicine. This episode also offers a preview of Path to Practice, the new program designed to help new graduates and early-career clinicians build practices with intention, confidence, and purpose instead of relying on trial and error. Dr. Roesner shares how she's intentionally designed her home-based practice, why slowing down often leads to better care, and how understanding the person in front of you remains one of the most powerful tools in medicine. Why Great Clinicians Need to Be Online With Dr. Lauren Hungler-Peters

In this episode of The ND Gap, Jordan sits down with Dr. Lauren Hungler-Peters to talk about one of the biggest barriers practitioners face: social media. Together, they unpack why consistency matters more than perfection, how to build trust before a patient ever books an appointment, and why your unique perspective matters even when everyone seems to be talking about the same topics.  Lauren shares her journey from naturopathic practice to running a social media agency for healthcare professionals, along with practical advice on content creation, personal branding, authenticity, AI, and finding your voice online. They also explore the mindset challenges that keep clinicians stuck, from comparison and perfectionism to unrealistic expectations around growth.  If you've ever thought, "I should be posting more," this episode is for you. ---- Lauren is a former naturopathic doctor turned founder of Healthy AF* Co. She spent 14 years in clinical practice before realizing the part she loved most wasn't the protocols. It was the strategy, the branding, the backend puzzle of making everything connect. Somewhere between patient care and launching her first landing page in 2014, the second career started writing itself. These days she runs a boutique marketing agency for NDs and wellness practitioners, where she speaks fluent practitioner and fluent content strategy. Helping them turn clinical brilliance into authority-driven content that actually converts, without the dancing, the trending audio, or the Canva chaos. She still thinks like a clinician. She just builds brands now instead of treatment plans. Lauren lives on an apple orchard in Ontario with her husband, two tiny humans, and a not-so-chill dog named Oscar.
