    An Ode to the MCVP

On this week’s episode of The New Consent Narrative, Jilly Mcbane sits down to record a solo segment where she shares insight on her past four years working at the MCVP. She reflects on the fundamental ways she’s changed: letting go of perfectionism, embracing community and collaborative work, and recognizing her own capacity to cause harm. She talks about fun projects she has gotten to work on, including the You Might Be Causing Harm If Campaign, which was launched on campus at the University of Utah in spring 2023, as well as educational posts on the @uofucvp instagram and blog, and this very podcast. Ending sexual violence is a mission that calls for deep self reflection and personal accountability. She thanks the many people who have supported her work and growth along the way. She hopes this podcast has made an impact throughout her time on campus.  To learn more about the University of Utah's McCluskey Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, visit the website by clicking on this link. On Working With People Who’ve Caused Harm

On this week’s episode of The New Consent Narrative, Jilly Mcbane sits down with Elaine Newton, who recently accepted the position as new director of the MCVP! Elaine has been around on campus for some time, formerly serving as education specialist for the University of Utah’s Office of Equal Opportunity. Elaine has extensive experience working with people who’ve caused harm, particularly “respondents,” or individuals who have had a report made about their behavior. Jilly and Elaine discuss prevention, and how intervention with students about their behavior can be nuanced. It can stir up emotions, deep reflection, but ultimately prevent that same harmful behavior from happening again. Their discussion about Elaine’s work, her approach to education and her guiding philosophies is one you won’t want to miss! Further, Elaine pictures how working with people who’ve caused harm might look similar and/or different for her as director.  To learn more about Elaine and her exciting transition as director of the MCVP, read the article here!
