The movie explores the rich history of African spirituality and its impact on the Dahomey Kingdom, an ancient empire of West Africa and it centers on the female military unit of the Dahomey Kingdom, known as the Amazons, who fought fiercely for their land and people.
Despite its popularity and cinematic excellence, The Woman King was snubbed by the 2023 Oscars. In this episode, we give The Woman King its due as a brilliant work of historically inspired cinematic art created for and by Black Women.

Hoodoo Hot Takes: Wakanda Forever
What happens when a “Hoodoo Hot Topic”s HHT episode quickly turns into a full-blown review of Wakanda Forever, the latest offering in MCU’s Black Panther franchise? Andi is the podcast’s official MCU expert and scholar and the Wakanda Forever movie is brimming with relevant themes (mourning, loss, experiences in the ancestral plane, ancestor veneration, and undertaking “magic” when experiencing trauma) to our hoodoo practice. Our convo was so good, we wanted to share it with you. I am new on my Hoodoo path and was looking to learn more. I love the approachable tone of this podcast. I feel like I'm sitting a table with friends when I listen. I deleted my clubhouse but I might hop back on to join their room.
