Ep 36 | Depression & Complex Trauma: Exploring a potential root cause of depression | Our relationship with depression, childhood, nervous system dysregulation

Please practice self-responsibility when listening to media that contain themes which could negatively impact your mental health or emotional balance. We discuss depression & childhood trauma in this episode. If you choose to listen, please ensure you have tools and resources at-the-ready to help regulate yourself. Helpful resources & links below.

Karinda heard something about depression (and trauma) on Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast interviewing Tim Fletcher, made a post about it, and Julie reacts in real-time to this perspective. As naturopaths, we’re passionate about getting to the root of symptoms, so when we heard the idea of depression as a means of “slowing down” your nervous system, activating your rest-digest-restore healing mechanisms, we had to talk about it. Julie graciously reads out Karinda’s caption, which includes some of her own history with nervous system dysregulation, trauma and depression.

Ep 34 | What’s the Problem with Skincare & Cosmetics? | Naturopathic Takes on Hair Removal, Deodorants & MORE! | Our Low-Tox, Holistic Skincare Routines

You asked, we... tried to deliver! In this ep we're exploring skincare, makeup, deodorant, hair removal, pubic hair from a naturopathic, holistic perspective. We share our stories, what we use, ingredients we avoida, and how becoming naturopaths made us get-real (and low-tox) with our skin. We cover the physical risks of using conventional skincare & harsh ingredients, as well as the cultural narratives we’re sold, to (literally) sell products, the environmental impact of modern skincare & how living in alignment with your values when it comes to skin is the most important point.

Because yes, your skin is an organ & the first line of defence for your immune system, and yes, what you put on it matters!

Ep 33 | Glyphosate Deep Dive | Is Modern Agriculture Causing a Health Crisis? [Part 1]

We finally went there! This is the first instalment of our Glyphosate series (who knows how many there will be). Glyphosate is a part of RoundUp, a widely used herbicide. It also acts a broad-spectrum antibiotic. So what happens when human exposure to Glyphosate has increased more than 500% in 2 decades? How does this impact our health, soil quality, and the quality of the food we're eating? We start to cover these important points and more. In the next Glyphosate episode, we'll be sure to cover more on what you can do about your exposure, protecting yourself and your family, and feeling empowered in your health. Take some deep breaths during this one!

The Nuanced Naturopaths Podcast is a friendly conversation between two friends, us! Karinda and Julie. We’re passionate about finding the nuance in natural health. As degree-qualified naturopaths, we like to ask the questions that need to be asked - about all aspects of health, healing and well-being. We delight in questioning firmly held beliefs and finding the nuance in all subjects health-related and beyond. Sometimes it can get a little technical, but hopefully, we explain things in a way accessible to anyone interested in natural health, whether you’re a practitioner or someone who wants to learn more and optimise your wellbeing. It’s a chat about poop, periods and everything in between - buckle up for a laugh, a cry and for some things you are yet to consider about your health. Stay nuanced!

Ep 32 | Supplements are NUANCED! Do We Need Them? | Synthetic vs Natural Supplements | Are Vitamins Natural?

Today, we respond to social media claims that vitamins haven’t been scientifically proven to exist in nature... A bold statement, and one that requires a nuanced approach to analyse. So we're on the case! Plus, are supplements natural or synthetic? Why do we take them? Do we need supplements at all? Join us as we dive down the supplements & vitamins rabbit hole, and try to answer ALL the questions! (Well, at least the important ones!).

(Apologies for the abrupt ending on this one, as we ran into some tech & time issues!)
