ODYSSEY WILL MAKE MONEY, BUT I'M BUMMED ITS GOING TO SUCK.

A trailer drops, the internet explodes, and suddenly a 3,000-year-old poem is at the center of a modern culture fight. Jerk hits play on a George the Giant Slayer video and react to the growing backlash around Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, especially the marketing hook “Defy The Gods” and what that tagline signals to long-time fans of Homer and Greek mythology.   From there, he gets into the messy part: authenticity. We talk about why some viewers don’t just care about visuals, IMAX spectacle, or big-name casting, but about whether the heart of The Odyssey is still there. He also unpacks how Hollywood PR and celebrity soundbites can inflame the situation, especially when the people promoting the project seem disconnected from the source material and its cultural roots.   We go deeper into the translation debate too, focusing on how word choices can quietly rewrite the story’s moral logic, shifting responsibility, changing how heroes are judged, and re framing themes like loyalty, sacrifice, hospitality, and respect for the divine. The Ship of Theseus thought experiment is used to ask a simple but uncomfortable question: if you swap out enough planks, is it still The Odyssey, or is it something else wearing the name?   If you care about Christopher Nolan films, book-to-screen adaptations, classical literature, or the future of honest storytelling, this conversation is for you. TAMPON TIM AND THE WORST KIND OF PARDONS

Minnesota used to feel like a steady, moderate place in the American imagination, then the headlines started stacking up: riots in Minneapolis, “defund the police” promises, corruption allegations, and public safety stories that leave people asking who is actually in charge. I take a blunt, unfiltered look at that arc through the lens of MAGAmark; a YOUTUBE channel dedicated to sharing the hypocritical corruption of the Democratic party. The focus is on Minnesota politics, with Governor Tim Walz at the centre of our criticism and frustration about crisis response, COVID-era enforcement, and policies we think send the wrong message about accountability. I also talk about how national figures shape Minnesota’s reputation, including Ilhan Omar and the way ideology can turn local governance into a constant culture war. From there, the conversation gets heavier, touching on political violence and what it means when disagreements stop being settled by debate and start feeling dangerous. It’s not just about personalities, it’s about the knock-on effects: trust in institutions, confidence in law enforcement, and whether regular residents believe the rules apply equally. A big chunk of the episode breaks down the Feeding Our Future scandal and why large public programs can become targets for fraud when oversight is weak. I connect that to a broader reality people understand, including how corruption can be normalised through patronage and “easy money” politics. Then I shift to two stories that hit a nerve: a messy vigilante-style confrontation involving an alleged attempt to meet a 13-year-old, and a clemency decision involving a convicted child sex offender, both raising the same question about consequences and public safety. If you’re following Minnesota news, public safety debates, or the broader US political climate, this one will push your buttons. Listen, share your take, and if you want more conversations like this, follow the show, leave a review, and send this episode to someone who’ll argue with you about it.out OBJECTIVE JERK PODCAST Reach me through “FAN MAIL” you can leave a comment or a voicemail. ROME’S COLLAPSE & THE CITIZEN VIGILANTE FILM: Politics Of Immigration

A banned movie, a messy immigration debate, and a history lesson that feels very relevant. Jerk goes at immigration from a blunt personal angle: living as an immigrant in the Philippines while believing the “right way” matters, from legal processes to actually contributing where you live. That sets up the bigger question we keep returning to: when does compassion turn into a system that gets exploited, and who pays the price when governments refuse to enforce their own rules? Jerk also gets into Citizen Vigilante, a new film associated with director Uwe Boll that’s stirring up outrage well beyond normal movie talk. He breaks down the premise, why people compare it to Death Wish and even Taken, and why it’s being attacked as political messaging rather than judged only as entertainment. Along the way, he talks about censorship, bans, audience scores versus critics, and how internet labels can shut down real conversations about crime, integration, and public safety. Then he pivots to an animated history clip on the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the argument that uncontrolled immigration, corruption, and failed integration helped trigger long-term collapse. We don’t treat Rome as a perfect copy of today, but we do treat it as a warning about borders, institutions, and what happens when leaders make promises they can’t enforce. If you’re tired of slogans and want a raw, opinionated breakdown of immigration policy, border security, asylum, integration, and the culture war around film, hit play. After listening, subscribe, share this with a mate, and leave a review, what’s one immigration rule you think should be non-negotiable? FILIPINO SCHOOL SHOOTING: It Is Time To Be Proactive And Not Reactive.

A rare incident of a school shooting in Tacloban City Philippines  is the kind of story people want to believe won't happen “here” until it does. I read through the initial reporting on the San Jose National High School attack, react to what’s been confirmed so far, and sit with the uncomfortable reality that rare incidents can still expose big gaps in school readiness, communication, and follow-through. I also talk about bullying as more than just a schoolyard issue. When reports point to constant bullying, it raises tough questions about warning signs, student support systems, and how schools can intervene early through clear reporting channels, counseling, and real consequences for harassment.  From there, I get practical. Watching the panic in the circulating clips leads to a discussion on basic active shooter response: RUN, HIDE FIGHT; lock and barricade, stay out of view, stay quiet, and follow a plan. It’s not about importing fear or pretending the Philippines is the same as the US, it’s about being proactive and building simple routines that protect lives during the first critical minutes. We also widen the lens to mental health, violence prevention, and why “one simple fix” rarely solves complex harm. If you found this valuable, subscribe for more grounded takes on safety, local news, and real-world preparedness. WHAT HAPPENS IN EUROPE, WILL HAPPEN IN THE U.S.: The UK Grooming Gang Report

I dig into the UK Grooming Gang Inquiry Report and read out sections that focus on victim testimony, whistleblower accounts, and the report’s central claim that this wasn’t just about individual criminals, it was also about institutional failure. I react to a clip from MP Rupert Lowe, then pull out the parts that hit hardest: how vulnerable girls were allegedly targeted, how organized networks operated, and why the report argues that politics, media incentives, and fear of accusations shaped how the problem was discussed or downplayed. If you’ve been searching for context on “UK grooming gangs”, “child sexual exploitation”, and “public inquiry findings”, this gives you a direct, plain-language walk through of what’s being said and why it’s controversial. I also connect the report to wider debates that keep popping up across the West: immigration policy, crime reporting, and the pressure people feel around free speech. We touch on a France case framed as punishment for speaking bluntly, then jump to the UK’s post-Dunblane firearms changes and why some people compare that path to US Second Amendment arguments. Finally, I play a short clip on unrest in Ireland and talk about how media labels can drown out the underlying issues. If this conversation challenges you, good. HOW CAMERAS PROTECT CITIZENS WHEN POLITICIANS DON'T

A single clip of surveillance video can change everything: what the public believes, and how a city argues about safety. I talk through Seattle’s expanding use of cameras in high-crime areas and why a viral downtown assault on an elderly commuter became a flashpoint. The footage doesn’t just spark outrage, it also leads to a tip that helps identify a second suspect quickly, showing the real-world value of clear video evidence when time matters. From there, I unpack the bigger debate that keeps coming up with body cams and street cameras. A lot of us once feared the whole thing felt “Orwellian”, like we’re trading freedom for convenience. Others supported cameras as a way to expose corrupt policing. What’s uncomfortable, and important, is that video can do both at the same time: it can hold police accountable, clear officers when claims are false, and capture violent offenders doing exactly what witnesses describe. Evidence forces everyone to deal with facts, not just feelings. Privacy still isn’t a side issue, though. I get into concerns about data storage, security, who gets access, how misuse can happen, and why socialist politicians worry about federal immigration enforcement tapping into local systems.  If you care about public safety, civil liberties, and how cities like Seattle are trying to balance both, listen through and share this with someone who disagrees with you. WHY THE LA MAYORAL PRIMARY SPARKS VOTER FRAUD FEARS

Watching results shift days after election day messes with your head, even if you can’t prove a single thing went wrong. We start with a quick real-life catch-up, then jump straight into the LA mayoral primary drama around Spencer Pratt, Karen Bass, and why late-arriving mail-in ballots can make a clean process look sketchy to regular voters who just want a system they can trust. From there, I read and react to reporting about a DOJ probe request connected to a California voter fraud case, where a woman admitted paying homeless people on Skid Row to register to vote. We talk through what that allegation actually means, why it becomes instant “proof” for some people, and why social media rumours can still send you down a rabbit hole even when the biggest claims don’t hold up. The bigger point is public confidence: slow counting, messy rules, and real cases of misconduct create a perfect storm where nobody believes the officials who say “there’s no evidence.” I also get into the SAVE Act and the heated debate over requiring documentary proof of citizenship to register, plus what California law allows when it comes to homeless voter registration without a permanent address. We end on the uncomfortable truth about tribal politics: when winning becomes the only goal, integrity is the first thing to go. If you’ve got strong views on voter ID, mail-in ballots, or election transparency, listen, share this with a friend, and leave a review. What would make you trust the process again?
