In my time speaking with Dr. Ali Shakoor and discussing his book For Black Men Trying to Survive and Thrive in America: A Defense Attorney's Advice and Life Experiences. It made me think of a quote from Arthur Ashe one of the greatest people to ever grace this earth. When Ashe was asked if having AIDS was the toughest challenge he had ever had to face, he replied:“No, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with was being a black man in this society…having to live as a minority in America. Even now it feels like an extra weight tied around me.”
