Giving Up Whiteness, Gaining Humanity
Jeff James was one of the good white guys—or so he thought. But when he asked an African American friend how he could help fight the rising tide of racism, he had to think again. "Simple," she shot back, "get rid of whiteness." Thus began his journey to discover, name, and dismantle the racial category that had defined and advantaged him for a lifetime. Aurora + Kelly sit with Jeff as he shares his discoveries on just how deeply the forces of race have shaped his own choices and how the things we can't see yield the most power. Us well-meaning white people have a lot of work to do and it's past time to Opt-In.

Customer Reviews
I LOVE this Podcast
Aurora and Kelly really deliver the real raw vulnerability that is necessary in having these conversations. They are so respectful and open to learning. They have something special that we can all learn from. I am constantly interacting with their Instagram account (they share so many insightful stories, posts, and resources as well) and referring back to previous episodes. And don’t even get me started on the sound and production quality (🔥). I love this show!!
Engaging. Authentic. Real.
I love this podcast! Kelly and Aurora tackle tough conversations about racism with honesty and vulnerability. Each episode is a new conversation to challenge you to learn and grow.
Incredible, informative, emotional
The Opt in is such a good podcast, it is easy to follow and understand, while they delve into highly complex questions and ideas with intriguing people. I’ve been trying lots of podcasts, and this is the one that I’ve stuck with. It has nearly made me cry before, and multiple times it has made me stop what I’m doing and say “ohh, omg” out loud. Powerful podcast, would recommend!!
