I savor these episodes. I always come away feeling refreshed, renewed somehow — to be included in Matthew’s deep thinking, broad knowledge of so many things, following a thread of an idea as a curious thinker will do, guided by heart and mind so effortlessly. It feels authentic and it’s also somewhat intimate to be a listener in this way. Philosophy, literature, history, culture. The Oxbow is all of it.

In The Oxbow, Matthew Stillman guides listeners through subtle and surprising trails of history, food, story, and culture. I’m into the improvisation of it. As a listener, I always feel like, “this could fail.” But it doesn’t. Stillman always takes us somewhere relevant and lively, and this live wire act smacks of a kind of virtuosity. His depth of knowledge, metaphor, and narrative make him trusty guide, and his pleasure and enthusiasm are contagious. It goes deep here, and just in case I gush too much, don’t worry— Stillman helps us whiff some of the mysteries here, but he doesn’t spend any time tripping over his own profundity. An agile head and capable heart, clearly. Good stuff. If more comes, lucky us! If not, an ample gift plenty. Thank you Matthew.

Matthew Stillman’s proficiency and vast expertise stretches to innumerable subjects which are interesting and nourishing. His organic style and an improvised spontaneous podcast adds to the appeal creating an engaging pathway of interconnection. His contribution and efforts in sharing culture and other various important topics that unfold are immensely valuable. I learn so much every time I listen. I greatly enjoy his beautiful podcasts.
