    Send us Fan Mail We have a short local urban legend for you folks today, the tale of Helen's Bridge in Asheville NC.  Built in the early 1900's to get to the Zealandia Mansion, this bridge is said to be the sight where a grieving mother took her own life. We deal with our fair share of mosquitos in WNC, but in the swamp land of ENC there lives one that is said to be the size of a man, or at least a very large bird.     ROH Rerelease: Episode 23: The Murder of Ruthie Mae McCoy

    Send us Fan Mail Life has gotten a little chaotic lately, so we have not recorded in a couple weeks, but we wanted to let yall know we are not going anywhere, just life lifeing. Enjoy this episode from Rethinking Our History about the murder behind one of the most popular cult classics around.  In 1992 the cult classic movie Candyman made it's way to movie theaters, and more than a few people recognized the story line to be much more than just a nightmare. For folks living in the ABLA homes, the thought of someone breaking in through their bathroom cabinets was not an irrational fear, but one they lived with daily. In comes 52 year old Ruthie Mae who had been a resident of Abbott homes for four years. Having lived a long hard life Ruthies was on the path to freedom and safety, but her journey was cut short when two young men broke in through her medicine cabinet and murdered her. And so a legend was born that has haunted generations for over three decades. And for those who still live in these buildings, it's more than a legend, it is their day to day life. His followers were on the front lines of climate change deniers, and Obama haters, and had their safety threatened more than once.  The worst part of all this is even after he died, his followers are still pushing his ideals to the masses. We are back this week to look at one of our favorite topics, Lost Cities. In particular we are looking at the search for the Lost City of Z that took the life of explorer Percy Fawcett, his son Jack, and a friend Raleigh. Percy's life was one of adventure and service. He served many years in the military, even volunteering in his 50's when WW1 started. But the biggest , and most infamous exploration Percy would take, would be his last, and would leave the world questioning, What happened to those 3 men out there in the Amazon Jungle?
