Tapas and Trilingualism: Bite-Sized Bits of Conversation About Language from Galicia, Spain.

By Chloe Wheeler. Fulbright Side Project 2019-2020.

    Trilingualism in Secondary Schools

    Trilingualism in Secondary Schools

Episode VI of Season II. In this episode, Hattie and I think about language and language education in our schools. The secondary schools we have been working at as English teaching assistants operate in three languages: Castilian Spanish, Galician, and English. How do these languages intersect in the classroom? What do students and teachers speak outside the classroom? What is the impact of the trilingual system on students' education? These are all questions we ask (and answer) alongside three teachers at Mason's school, IES Valladares, and a bunch of our students.

Teachers and Teaching: A Conversation with Natalia

Teachers and Teaching: A Conversation with Natalia

Episode IV of Season II. In this week's episode, Hattie sits down to have a conversation with one of the English teaches at her school, Natalia. Natalia explains the process of becoming a public school teacher in Galicia - a longer and more complicated process than you might think. Along the way, she explains her own experience going through this process as well as the role of teachers in tutoria and some of the emotional aspects of teaching. We had a lovely time getting to know Natalia and we hope you enjoy learning about her and the lives of teachers in Vigo (and Galicia) as much as we did.
