Today I am fortunate to announce Alexander Martin, Director of Player Engagement for the Miami Dolphins, will be speaking at the Player Development Conference.
Alex is well known around the industry as being one of the biggest advocates for those who are starting to work in sports or are young professionals. He uses his LinkedIn profile to repost sports jobs consistently.
His session is titled: Avoiding the Internship Olympics: When full-time preparation meets full-time opportunity.
His session information: Player development exists at both the collegiate and professional levels. As enticing as the professional level seems however, full-time positions are rarely available. Instead, a lot of pro sports teams offer internships and other “seasonal” roles to help maintain efficiency and continuity across the building. Many are taking on multiple seasonal roles and internships year-after-year hoping to land a full time role with a professional team, not realizing they may be sacrificing full-time experience in the process. This session will help future player development professionals avoid taking on multiple internships, help learn how to land a full-time role in player development, and assist in their growth as a player development professional.

Meet The Director - Rod Rook-Chungong, Director of Player Development & Community Engagement, Georgia State Football
This is THE FIRST in-person interview to make The Player Development Pod Page.
This is the beginning of a series called "Meet the Director". This episode's featured director is Rod Rook-Chungong of Georgia State. I had the chance to chop it up with Rod at practice and then we went inside for an interview.
Rod is new to the role, and it has been great seeing him get this position. I met Rod in 2022, we had an initial conversation about player development and he dove head first into the Beyond The Field resources. He invested in himself and it paid off.

Group of 5 vs Power 5 Player Development - 5 Things You NEED To Know
I spent 6 years in the player development role in college football.
3 years I was on the Group of 5 level with Houston Football. 3 years I was on the Power 5 level with Kansas and Baylor Football.
There definitely were differences on both levels, today I share the 5 major things I learned in my transition from G5 to P5.

Ed Jones knows what he’s talking about! Ed has brought value and exposure to the player development space to help others get a better idea of what exactly happens in a program off the field. For those looking to get into the player development space, this is a great podcast to start with and learn from.
