    Fire on the Farm: Ken Migliorelli's Update

    Farmer Ken Migliorelli felt a wave of horror as he leapt from his bed tearing down Route 9 towards his vegetable farm. A fireball in the distance confirmed his worst fears. In the 10 weeks since that May 19 morning, Red Hook's preeminent vegetable farmer has leaned on local farmers and more than 1,100 private donations to rebuild his barn and his spirit.     When journalist Emily Sachar sets out to do a story on one of Red Hook's foreign exchange students, she expects a simple upbeat narrative. Instead, she learns that Alice Palmbäck of Stockholm only got to Red Hook unexpectedly, after enduring deplorable conditions at her first host family in the Midwest. Inadequate nutrition, a house teeming with foster children and dirty conditions were only a few of the challenges Alice faced, in violation of U.S. State Department regulations, before her mother thousands of miles away identified a new home for Alice for the 2022-2023 school year. This podcast explores the tactics and decisions The Daily Catch made over months of reporting to bring Alice's story to light.     After Colbert and Cancer, Peter Risafi Finds New Meaning as Local Director

    Just a few years ago, Peter Risafi, now on the cusp of his 66th birthday, wasn’t sure he’d live as he battled a rare cancer-like blood disorder, amyloidosis, which had targeted his heart. But a chance encounter last year with the creative mastermind behind the CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, landed Risafi a rare opportunity to direct a Shakespeare comedy at one of the Hudson Valley’s preeminent community theaters. Risafi walks listeners through his challenges as a chubby gay teen, stem cell transplants and cancer, and his newfound joy working with local actors.
