Delaware at the Movies part 2 - Steven Universe, Goosebumps & More!

We didn’t want to go quite as long as our opening episode of “Ain’t That America” but we just can’t get enough of Delaware! We gotta get our mouths on some of that SCRAPPLE! For part 2 of our film study of Delaware, we go to the more inland parts of the state, tackle some very low budget fare, encounter an all powerful writer/god  and get a proper introduction to a cartoon cult phenomenon. No state was harder to mine than Delaware and it shows but we also found some surprising quality that we wouldn’t have watched otherwise. Another fun two and a half hours devoted to…DELAWARE! 0:00 - Intro / The Mission 7:58 - Angela’s Delaware Book Report part 2 13:26 - The Dish and the Spoon (2011) 39:10 - Geography of “The Dish & the Spoon” 42:38 - Mayor Cupcake (2011) 1:00:21 - Geography & cuisine of “Mayor Cupcake” 1:05:12 - Goosebumps (2015) 1:24:22 - Geography of “Goosebumps” 1:27:24 - Jason’s Letter (2017) 1:57:31 - Geography of “Jason’s Letter” 2:01:13 - Steven Universe: The Movie (2019) 2:27:41 - Geography of “Steven Universe” 2:30:17 - Outro, Episode previews CREDITS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_Aut1Af7rs - Szabo Music (Delaware’s State Song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkuYrLEFIfU&list=RDlkuYrLEFIfU&start_radio=1 -  Wastelands 2 - High Pool Prison (scary music) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYALZWFfPO0&list=RDlYALZWFfPO0&start_radio=1 - Outro song by Delaware’s own “The Spinto Band” AIN’T THAT AMERICA THEME QUALIFYING PARAMETERS The movie has to occur within the state at least 60% of the time but preferably more It doesn’t matter if it’s filmed somewhere else, it matters what the story says, the filmmaker’s perceived setting is key While many will be filmed and set in the state, being only filmed in the state does not count if the story doesn’t claim the state It doesn’t matter if the town is fictional within the state, this is actually very common Some states are harder to gather for so parameters may bend here and there Subscribe to THE PROJECTORS on YouTube and podcast for A LOT more movie discussions as well as reposts of our original film podcast “Documenteers” which was all about documentary films. Delaware at the Movies - Fight Club, Empire Records & More!

RIGHT HERE is where we begin “AIN’T THAT AMERICA” our state by state movie breakdown that will encompass years. At least 10 movies per state, with two episodes of 5 movie discussions. (see our parameters for the theme below) We’re going in order of statehood and the first U.S. state is amongst the hardest states to pull movies from but we got deep cuts, cult classics, and notorious film fare here in our first batch and we got a thicc episode to show for it. We’re talking about the 2nd smallest state, DELAWARE and we break down some Delaware geography flick by flick as well as presenting plenty of fun facts about the Blue Hen State on that Delmarva peninsula. Part 2 coming soon.   0:00 - Intro / The Mission 7:05 - Angela’s Delaware facts 14:27 - Meet the People (1944) 38:20 - Delaware geography of “Meet the People” 45:02 - Hiding Out (1987) 1:01:56 - Delaware geography of “Hiding Out” 1:04:03 - Empire Records (1995) 1:28:25 - Delaware geography of “Empire Records” 1:32:52 - Fight Club (1999) 2:05:18 - Delaware geography of “Fight Club” 2:12:22 - Trigger Man (2007) 2:27:08 - Delaware geography of “Trigger Man” 2:30:24 - What’s next / Outro CREDITS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_Aut1Af7rs - Szabo Music (Delaware’s State Song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKqGXSKCIb4 - Dan Doherty (Wilmington dusk footage) AIN’T THAT AMERICA THEME QUALIFYING PARAMETERS The movie has to occur within the state at least 60% of the time but preferably more It doesn’t matter if it’s filmed somewhere else, it matters what the story says, the filmmaker’s perceived setting is key While many will be filmed and set in the state, being only filmed in the state does not count if the story doesn’t claim the state It doesn’t matter if the town is fictional within the state, this is actually very common Some states are harder to gather for so parameters may bend here and there Subscribe to THE PROJECTORS on YouTube and podcast for A LOT more movie discussions as well as reposts of our original film podcast “Documenteers” which was all about documentary films.
