    Consciousness and the Nature of Reality - Part 1 | Dr. Jeffrey Dunne

    Dr. Inna Conboy  speaks with Dr. Jeffrey Dunne. Together they discuss: the nature of consciousness, its fundamental role in reality, the latest scientific insights into its non-local, timeless qualities, how our perceptions shape our understanding of the universe, near-death experiences, the role of intention, the concept of syntropy as a counterbalance to entropy, quantum mechanics, and spiritual traditions, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all things. Dr. Jeffrey Dunne is the President of the International Consciousness Research Laboratories (ICRL), a charitable research organization established in the late 1990’s to build upon the foundation established by the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) Laboratory. In this role, Dr. Dunne runs a variety of research and outreach activities focused on exploring the nature of consciousness, particularly as it relates to space, time, and language, as well as events for sharing such understanding with people from all backgrounds.  In addition to his role with ICRL, Jeff is a researcher and Chief Scientist at the Johns Hopkins University, working over the past thirty years in a variety of fields ranging from acoustics and cybersecurity to data science and artificial intelligence. He is also an award-winning author and playwright, with nearly two hundred plays performed over four continents. In his 2023 novel, Nexus, Jeff unites three decades of scientific experience with four decades of pursuits in philosophy and metaphysics to weave a story introducing the scientific principle of syntropy and its importance in finding balance at every scale – personal, societal, and global. Dr. Dunne holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a M.S. and Ph.D. in Experimental Physics.     Heart Rhythm Meditation: Science and Wisdom Within | Dr. Kathleen Friend

    Dr. Inna Conboy  speaks with Dr. Kathleen Friend. Together they discuss: what heart rhythm meditation (HRM) is and what led Dr. Friend to it, empathy and perspective shifts within relationships, the science behind HRM, practical applications and benefits of HRM, navigating parenting challenges and power struggles with children, the journey to understanding and connection, the Greatness Chair.  Dr. Kathleen Friend is a board certified psychiatrist, and a practitioner and educator of Heart Rhythm Meditation.  Her career integrates traditional medical training with the study of heart-based contemplative practices. Her academic interests include the neurophysiology of emotion, heart rate variability, which is a well studied marker of nervous system flexibility and resilience, and the impact of meditative states on autonomic regulation. She explores the interface between measurable physiological coherence and subjective experiences of calm, empathy, and presence. Dr. Friend’s work contributes to the growing dialogue between medicine, psychology, and contemplative neuroscience, bringing the science and wisdom of the heart into clinical and professional well-being.     April is  recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to bring awareness to the impact of abuse on children and families, and to emphasize the importance of safety, support, and early intervention. It is also a reminder of the resilience of those who have endured and the responsibility we share in creating environments where children can feel safe, seen, and protected. In this episode, Dr. Inna Conboy speaks with Jen Torres. Together they discuss: Jen's journey from traumatic childhood marked by domestic violence to becoming an author and advocate.
