Vedanta: the Path to True Nature of Self | Dr. Krishna Taneja

Dr. Inna Conboy speaks with Dr. Krishna Taneja. Together they discuss: the profound philosophical tradition of Vedanta, exploring its core concepts, the journey of self-realization, and its integration into modern psychiatry. They discuss consciousness and its existence beyond our physical bodies, the nature of suffering, the role of karma vs free will, the various paths to realization within Vedanta, and so much more. Dr. Taneja shares her personal journey with Vedanta and how it shapes her practice as a psychiatrist, emphasizing the holistic approaches to mental health and to life in general.  Dr. Krishna Taneja is an Integrative Psychiatrist and founder of the MESS to THRIVE philosophy, dedicated to transforming mental health care through holistic, trauma-informed approaches. She leads Integrative Medicine Education at Southern Illinois University Psychiatry Program, developed and streamlined national integrative psychiatry curricula for residency and fellowship programs, and has driven large-scale initiatives addressing population-wide trauma, including systemic reforms and pilot programs, from government levels to grassroots communities worldwide.". Born into a lineage steeped in Vedanta, Dr. Taneja has been immersed in spiritual practice since infancy—guided by a guru since her birth, and formally entering the gurukul system as a young child. Growing up in ashram life, she worked on cultivating an innate understanding of prana (life force), knowledge of the self and the transformative power of meditation. Complementing this foundation, she apprenticed with indigenous medicine men and women across North America, mastering diverse energy-healing modalities—from Theta healing, Reiki and chakra balancing to shamanic journeying. By weaving these time-honored practices into evidence-based energy psychology and trauma-informed psychiatry, Dr. Taneja offers an integrative framework that honors both scientific rigor and spiritual wisdom.
