Australian Politicians Are Fighting For Wikileaks' Julian Assange Freedom

Australian Politicians Are Fighting For Wikileaks' Julian Assange Freedom

Julian Assange has been one of the most divisive and talked-about figures of the past two decades. In 2006, Assange founded Wikileaks and came to international attention in 2010 after publishing a trove of leaked classified US military documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Alongside those documents Wikileaks published shocking footage that rippled around the world of a US airstrike in Baghdad in which an American crew shot down Iraqi civilians, including two staff working for Reuters news. For the publication of this classified information and other allegations, Assange has been a wanted man for many years.

Now, a large group of Australian politicians are joining forces to lobby the US government to stop their legal pursuit of Queensland-born Assange.

So, why after more than 10 years is this group of MPs stepping in now?

And will they succeed in finally bringing Assange home a free man?

Why Did This Mum Name Her Baby Methamphetamine Rules?

Why Did This Mum Name Her Baby Methamphetamine Rules?

Over the years we've seen some pretty interesting baby names, from Apple to North, even Pilot and Cricket. And then there's Elon Musk's son X Æ A-12 - supposedly pronounced 'Ash'.

But this week, Australian journalist Kirsten Drysdale made headlines after naming her newborn boy something seriously controversial: Methamphetamine Rules.

Drysdale was testing the limits of Australia’s Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages to see if the name could possibly be approved and to her surprise…it was.

In this episode of The Quicky we take a look at the names you can and can't name your new bundle of joy, and just how Methamphetamine Rules slipped past the approvals.

Beyond Bushfires: What We're Not Prepared For This Summer

This week parts of Australia sweltered through a spring heatwave.

As summer approaches and the country braces itself for what’s predicted to be a scorching few months, experts are saying that it’s becoming more and more important to consider how our cities heat up.

In this episode of The Quicky we take a look at what's causing our cities to heat up, and how we can be prepared this summer.

Carrie McI ,

Thanks Sal C

Love the show! I so appreciate such thoughtful & balanced commentary - that I can trust! It’s helping me to acclimate back to Australia after 10 yrs away in the US. Thanks for the recommendation from Singapore Sal C!

Gushy girls who conflate good weather with fulfillment

These people seem to buy H & M story hook line and sinker. One example: the only rival court is H 8 M vs the united family. These podcasters don’t seem bothered by lack of credible evidence and don’t question unsubstantiated claims of planted negative stories. I guess taking private jets when lecturing sustainability the main negative press they got at that time was planted. Mainly theses podcasters expect us to believe a production that alters QE2’s speech to make her look racist over our own eyes and experience. We see in real time H 8 M attack the royal family knowing they can’t fight back. We are watching it happen in front of our eyes but are bamboozled into thinking the opposite is true. So I give this podcast low stars due to a per veined lack of critical thinking and willingness to conflate gloss with substance. No wonder they idealize H & M.

My daily slice of news from home

Part of my daily routine! Living away from Australia makes it hard to keep up with news from home. The Quicky makes doing that just so simple and enjoyable. It’s my little slice of Straya everyday. Keep them coming!
