    258. The Word God Gave Her When She Wanted to Be Someone Else | Sandy Martin

In this conversation I have with Sandy Martin, she walks me through the word God gave her when she wanted to be someone else, and why it took her years to actually receive it.Sandy spent 24 years as a church secretary and has walked with God through an abusive first marriage, a lifetime of anxiety, and a season of near-total isolation in the woods of Oregon, learning along the way what it actually means to hear His voice. Here's what we explore:▪️The word God gave Sandy when she wanted to be someone else, and why she almost didn't receive it▪️An out-of-body experience of God's peace in the middle of physical abuse▪️"There's beauty in the breakdowns"... what she heard God say the day her car broke down in the mountains▪️A journaling and alphabet gratitude practice that shifts her whole day▪️How God restored and healed her relationship with her abusive ex-husband before he unexpectedly passed away▪️Learning that prenatal wounding can pass from a mother to her child, and what healing that looked like years later▪️Why she now calls her small, isolated community her actual church▪️Being called a "lighthouse," and what it's meant to have strangers show up at her doorChapters:00:00 Introduction02:00 A Lifetime of Fear and Anxiety04:00 Leaving Her Body to Feel God's Peace During the Abuse05:34 There's Beauty in the Breakdowns10:27 A Journaling and Alphabet Gratitude Practice12:37 The Word God Gave Her: You Are the Harbor, Not the Wave21:18 Assignments From God in an Isolated New Community24:23 Finding Church in an Unlikely Community31:08 Called a Lighthouse: Strangers Showing Up at Her Door33:18 Restoration and Healing With Her First Husband Before He DiedIf something in this conversation stirred something in you, I'd love for you to sit with it. 257. The 10-Minute Prayer Experiment That Could Change Your Life | Jody Hovda

I gave God ten minutes. That's it... ten minutes of silence on a balcony in Caracas, with two highways roaring past and a stinky attitude about whether He'd actually say anything back. This conversation I have with Jody Hovda gets into what that experiment became, and where prayer went for her once she stopped telling God what to do and started listening instead.Jody has spent years walking with people through spiritual formation and discipleship, including her work with Cultivate. She's lived overseas, discipled women through hard seasons, and has a gift for helping people notice where God already is instead of chasing where they think He should be.Expect to hear the full story behind the ten minutes of silence that started it all, what changed when Jody moved from petitioning God to listening for Him, the story of a roadside decision that turned into an act of kindness, why she calls painful seasons "the manure" and how that framing actually produces growth, the difference between the two kinds of knowing God (intellectual and experiential), and how believing every person is an image-bearer changes the way you drive, parent, and stand in line at the grocery store, and more...If something in this conversation stirs something in you, I'd love for you to sit with it. 256. God Gave You an Imagination for a Reason (Here's How to Use It to Hear Him) | Misty Marascalco

This conversation I have with Misty Marascalco is one that surprised even me, because about an hour in, she saw something in the spirit she'd never seen before... all of us sitting at her table with Jesus. We get into how she went from a conservative upbringing where prayer was mostly "dump and run" to seeing visions, hearing Him speak identity over her, and now walking others through the same journey.Misty is the author of a book about her own path into hearing God through vision and imagination, and now leads inner healing and deliverance prayer with people all over the country. You can find her book here - https://www.just1grain.com/Here's what we explore:▪️How a movie about the crucifixion cracked open something a lifetime in church hadn't touched▪️Her first vision during worship, and the words that came with it: "you are a gate breaker"▪️The table encounter where Jesus began undoing a lifetime of lies about who she was▪️Why the same imagination the enemy can hijack is also the very place Jesus loves to meet you▪️How Scripture itself, Abraham, the Psalms, Jesus' parables, Nicodemus, is full of invitations to imagine▪️A live activation you can experience right along with us, picturing Jesus meeting you at a tableIf any of this stirs something in you, I'd love for you to sit with it. 255. What Happens When You Sit With God in Complete Silence | Roy Moran

This conversation I have with Roy Moran is about something I hear from so many people I work with... the silence. What do you do when you sit down to pray and just get nothing back? Roy walked me through his own journey with that exact question, and how solitude became a discipline he couldn't live without.Roy Moran spent 25 years pioneering the Hybrid Church model at Shoal Creek before joining New Generations, where he now works with disciple-making movements around the world. He's the author of Spent Matches. You can learn more about his work at Mercy Alliance. We get into why Roy stopped filling his prayer time with talking and started learning to just be quiet, what to do when your mind won't settle even after you've gone silent, and how that discipline ended up changing the way he experiences God's love, not just in his head, but in his body.Chapters:00:00 Intro: How Roy Got Started in Disciple-Making03:20 Why "Jesus Commands Us to Make Disciples" Is False05:33 Gravitational vs Catalytic Leadership09:15 How Roy's Journey of Listening to God Began11:34 Learning to Sit in Silence With God24:19 Trading a Spirit of Success for Perseverance29:51 The Fear Behind Our Demand for Answers34:34 The Prodigal Son Picture That Changed Everything43:41 Moving From Striving to ReceivingIf the silence has felt more like absence than connection, I don't think you're missing something. 254. Why Copying How Someone Else Hears God Doesn't Work | Anne de Leyser

This is a conversation I have with Anne de Leyser. Anne leads Local House of Prayer, the movement that grew out of Ffald y Brenin and The Grace Outpouring, and we get into what over ten years of listening to God's whispers has taught her about ordinary people carrying real authority right where they already live. We talk about praying "teach me how to pray" instead of assuming you already know, why the way you hear God looks different from anyone else's and that's not something to fix, kids who heard God before anyone taught them to, the difference between asking God to bless someone and speaking that blessing over them, and what she's learned about chronos time, kairos time, and not giving up right before the breakthrough. 253. 8 Months Of Deeply Listening To God | Michele Lewis

Michele has been part of our community for eight months, and in that time she went from believing she was fundamentally broken to telling me she hasn't felt that way since. In this conversation she walks me through the marriage she entered without ever praying about it, the year that took her mom and nearly her faith, and what it's actually looked like to hear God's voice in the small, practical stuff of her life. Toward the end we pray together, and something opens up in her about why it's felt safer to keep love out than risk it leaving again.Michele is a member of our Receive Academy community who's spent the last eight months learning to recognize God's voice in her everyday life, from prayer to parenting to driving in traffic. Here's what we explore:▪️ How a belief that she was fundamentally broken kept her from expecting God would actually come through for her, and what shifted once that healed▪️ The morning she finally saw Jesus' eyes after eight months of sensing Him near without seeing them▪️ What happened when she started asking God how much to earn before her DoorDashing shifts▪️ Realizing she had pictured God acting like her mother instead of trusting Him as Father▪️ A live prayer where we get underneath a fist wrapped around her heart, holding pain because letting love in once meant watching it leaveChapters00:00 Intro01:05 Becoming a Single Mom at Nineteen and the Miracles That Followed04:05 Marrying Without Ever Praying About It06:56 Growing Up in a Split Faith Family and Hearing Her First Name From God08:54 A Year That Took Her Mom, Her Son's Faith, and Nearly Her Own11:19 Six Weeks of Hearing Not Yet Before Joining the Community13:16 Seeing His Eyes and Feeling Time Stretch16:23 Healing the Belief That She Was Broken20:36 Asking God How Much to Earn and Realizing She'd Pictured Him Like Her Mother27:24 A Live Prayer for the Fist Around Her HeartIf something in this stirred something in you, I'd love for you to sit with it. 252. Your Body Can Tell You When You're Actually Hearing God | Denita Bremer

This conversation I have with Denita Bremer started with a simple question, what happens in your body when the inner critic tells you you're not enough. We followed it into my own story with my parents, into the ways I learned to hide, and into something surprising Denita heard from Jesus in a meditation right before we got on this call.Denita Bremer is a life and trauma coach who works especially with Latter-day Saint women, blending trauma-informed, somatic, and Christ-centered coaching. Here's what we explore:▪️Why going to the body, not just the logic, is often the doorway into what the inner critic is really protecting▪️How the way we related to our parents growing up shapes the way we relate to God▪️Why anger can be a sign of something God made you to care about, not something to manage away▪️How the criticism you've heard your whole life might be pointing straight at your gift00:00 Going to the Body When the Critic Says You're Not Enough03:09 What "Not Enough" Feels Like in the Body07:00 Learning to Hide What You Really Wanted11:22 Why the Gift Is Often Hidden in the Criticism14:13 Learning You Don't Have to Belong to What Hurt You17:36 Anger as a Sign of What God Made You to Care About22:46 The Gift Hidden in "You Talk Too Much"25:01 A Meditation, a Question to Jesus, and an Unexpected AnswerIf something here stirred something in you, I'd love for you to sit with it. 251. This Woman Obeyed A Prompting From God And Now 150,000 People Are Following Jesus | Jennifer Awilli

This conversation I have with Jennifer Awili is one I'll be thinking about for a long time. She's a 34-year-old accountant from Uganda who felt a quiet prompting from God to go speak to eight men drinking alcohol on the edge of a war zone... and forty people gave their lives to Christ that afternoon. Four years later, over 150,000 people have come to the Lord through a movement she never planned to lead.Jennifer Awili is an accountant with Open Grace International, a disciple-making organization based in Uganda. She leads a grassroots DMM (Disciple Making Movement) in the Karamoja region, one of the most dangerous and historically violent areas in East Africa. Here's what we explore:▪️ The fear Jennifer had to push through to walk up to those eight men... and what happened when one of them, around 60 years old, started crying and asking if God could really forgive someone like him▪️ How the Karamoja region, a place where people locked their doors at 6:30pm out of fear, is now experiencing real, measurable peace because ex-warriors are leading discipleship groups▪️ The oral learner method Jennifer's team uses to disciple people who can't read or write, and how it multiplies through wives sharing with husbands and parents sharing with children▪️ What Jennifer says it actually feels like when God is speaking... and how she knows the difference between a random thought and a real prompting▪️ The four-tier leadership structure (facilitators, coordinators, coaches, coach of coaches) that allowed this movement to grow far beyond what Jennifer could manage alone▪️ Miracles she's witnessed firsthand, including more than 20 women who had been barren for over 15 years conceiving after prayer▪️ What Jennifer would say to any woman... or anyone... who feels too ordinary, too disqualified, or too afraid to take the step God is inviting them intoChapters: 00:00 Intro01:43 Jennifer's Background and the Karamoja Region04:50 The Day She Obeyed: Eight Men, Forty Lives, One Afternoon07:40 How the Gospel Brought Peace to a Place Known for Violence15:53 What Listening to God Actually Sounds Like in Practice24:06 Miracles and God Using People Nobody Expected31:25 What Jennifer Would Say to Anyone Afraid to Take the StepIf Jennifer's story stirred something in you, I'd love for you to sit with it.
