Showing the Value of Public Relations with Adam Woullard: Episode 309

Showing the Value of Public Relations with Adam Woullard: Episode 309

Hello and welcome to today's amazing podcast with Adam Woullard (VMLY&R, Managing Director and Head of US PR). I am so excited for you to listen along as he talks about his career journey starting as a sports PR person, and his time working for Green Bay and working through the Aaron Rodgers/Brett Favre crisis. Adam shares his experience as a one of the only black men in PR for sports, and now in PR leadership positions. Adam shares a great story about Charles Woodson, and Charles' wine brand that Adam was able to help promote. Adam relays how he wants to see everyone succeed, especially as PR has an often negative view. We talk about how different the world is, and especially the benefits and liabilities of social medias. We discuss the importance of accepting that not everything appeals to everyone, and it's okay to have different preferences as long as we don't hinder others. The topic of systemic racism is also addressed, emphasizing the need to step aside if we can't comprehend or contribute to its dismantling. Additionally, Adam provides valuable advice on maintaining good health through community engagement, sufficient sleep, regular exercise, and taking time to rest.

Adam would like to ask you to consider where you are sourcing your opinions and consider googling what you have read and heard to have a better sense of media literacy.

My thoughts about episode 140...

After listening to a couple of episodes, I really liked the show. But I must say that I was offended by you using your public platform to make a clear distinction between Caribbean-Americans and African-Americans in a way to state that your community has been more successful because of your culture. Personally as an African-American, I applaud all Black success regardless of place of birth of the person or their family. Your comments about Caribbean-Americans having more college degrees that African Americans also demonstrates to me that you don’t really understand the African-American experience. Clearly you see yourself and your community as superior. And that’s what I found to be offensive. It’s disappointing that even in an age where white Americans are beginning to acknowledge the disparities and to see their privilege, you chose to use your platform to distinguish yourself from the larger group.

I recognize the Caribbean experience as being similar to many other immigrant groups. But to take the opportunity to toot your horn about the success of one group of Black success over others, is an insult to me and my ancestors who fought for the rights of all Blacks in this country.
