From stage to screen, his acclaimed web series “Keith Broke His Leg” and most recently Hallmark’s “A Holiday In Harlem,” Keith is committed to expressing his creative vision authentically, no matter the container. We dive deep into rejection, playing the long game, and creating a supportive set culture. Other topics include directing your wife, the beauty of organizing, and Christmas lights. Happy Holidays!

Art After Brain Surgery with Actor-Writer Thomas Mejia

Art After Brain Surgery with Actor-Writer Thomas Mejia

Just as actor/writer/creator Tommy Mejia was finding his stride in the film and TV industry, his doctor discovered a potentially life-threatening mass in his brain. Since then, Tommy has had to undergo several surgeries which have completely changed the way he lives his life. In this beautifully honest conversation, we talk to Tommy about the frustration of not being able to make the art you want to make, how it felt to watch a play inspired by him and why he's still committed to staying creative. Other topics include accepting a slower pace, identity and (on the heels of Hispanic Heritage Month) the need for more nuanced representation of the Latinx and Indigenous communities in our storytelling.

Encouragement, community, & inspiration

Karla and Roxanna are amazing listeners and conversationalists that intelligently and thoughtfully lead their very interesting guests in conversations that shine light on their gifts and perspectives that then expand and educate the listener in so many great ways. I finish every episode and want to listen again with paper and pen to take notes on all the amazing gems that were discussed. Brava!

Inspirational

This is a thought-provoking and super entertaining podcast even for those like myself that don’t call themselves “artists.” We all have art inside of us after all, and can benefit greatly from taking risks. I think I could listen to the hosts reflect on current times and their experiences all day, but their interviews add even more depth and character. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

5 stars!!!

This podcast has become an invaluable resource for my artist soul. Karla and Roxy navigate through these conversations with such ease, depth and humor. There have been many days where I was feeling like giving up, frustrated, unseen, unheard (the list goes on), and the risking space was just what I needed to pick myself up and know that I’m not in alone on this wild journey/career path. Cannot recommend it enough.
