Andrew Burstein's new book is "Being Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History"

Historian Andrew Burstein joins us this morning. He recently retired from Louisiana State University where he was a Professor of History and author of “The Passions of Andrew Jackson,” “Jefferson’s Secrets,” and numerous other books on American politics and culture. He is a Thomas Jefferson scholar, and he is the author of the new book “Being Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History.”

Madeleine Dunnigan's debut novel is "Jean"

Author Madeleine Dunnigan’s new novel “Jean” is haunting and it is a coming-of-age debut that integrates the fragilities of masculinity, the mysticism of adolescence, and the often-fraught bonds between mothers and their sons. Madeleine was a Jill Davis Fellow in the MFA program at New York University. She was also awarded a GRI fellowship in Paris and this is her first novel.

Musicians of Ma'alwyck and Excelsior Vocal Ensemble present Henry Purcell's "Dido & Aeneas" on 2/20 and 2/22

Musicians of Ma’alwyck is teaming up with Excelsior Vocal Ensemble to present Henry Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas.” The opera continues to mesmerize audiences more than 300 years after its premiere. They pair it with a work by Purcell’s teacher and friend John Blow: “Ode on the Death of Henry Purcell.” Performances are scheduled for Friday, February 20 at 7 p.m. at the Bethesda Episcopal Church in Saratoga Springs, New York and Sunday, February 22 at 3 p.m. at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy, New York.

Hive Mind of the Democratic Establishment

Do you love hearing milquetoast mainstream liberal opinions in an echo chamber? Do you love hearing from aging folks who work in Academia and Albany’s professional upper class who probably make way more money then you and are insufferably smug? Do you hate hearing from people who have a variety of different view points from you, like let’s say a young progressive or maybe a libertarian? Then this show is the perfect fit! From running a discredited story against Alex Morse to carry water for the corrupt establishment democrat Richard Neal to more recently kissing the behinds of the Israeli government as they carry out ethnic cleansing in Gaza there is no shortage of the worst takes the Democratic Party (and the occasional establishment NY Republican) in the NY tri-state area has to offer. There are a few guests and commentators that I’ve liked for the most part (RoseMary Armao) but they are few and far between. I mostly listen to see what the viewpoint of the democratic establishment is on an given issue, and to listen to the letters to the panel where they often get trounced and then are either silent or stammer on as they try to find a way to sound “nuanced”. Wouldn’t recommend listening to this program unless you love establishment democrats/ politicians and their viewpoints.
