    Afro-caribbeans that changed the game

Are we invisible? Have we not made history? Did we at least get an honorable mention? This one is for the mentioned, and the forgotten! It’s Black History Month! The Black Community has fought to be where we are now. We want to highlight a couple of people that participated in that fight. In today’s episode, we will be discussing the history made by Marcus Garvey and the ideas of Arthur Lewis.  Useful links:  Marcus Garvey:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/garvey_marcus.shtml https://www.researchgate.net/publication/249695549_The_Moral_Anthropology_of_Marcus_GarveyIn_the_Fullness_of_Ourselves https://www.researchgate.net/publication/297875000_W_E_B_Du_Bois_Marcus_Garvey_and_Pan-Africanism_in_Liberia_1919-1924 Book: The philosophy and opinion of Marcus Garvey    The History of Liberia: https://www.liberiaforward.org/history-of-liberia?gclid=Cj0KCQiA34OBBhCcARIsAG32uvOdObUZg8RvUqzoEHPYIRZb2jNt78YDgLE5nqgXlFdZSpXb7AFrAP8aAji_EALw_wcB https://history.state.gov/milestones/1830-1860/liberia#:~:text=In%201816%2C%20a%20group%20of,the%20world%20at%20that%20time.   Arthur Lewis: https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/economic-sciences/1979/lewis/biographical/ https://www.un.org/en/chronicle/article/w-arthur-lewis-pioneer-development-economics https://www.ubs.com/microsites/nobel-perspectives/en/laureates/arthur-lewis.html https://www.econlib.org/library/Enc/bios/Lewis.html Books: Development Planning: The Essentials of Economic Policy by Arthur Lewis Racial conflict and economic development by Arthur Lewis The principles of economic planning by Arthur Lewis Economic Survey, 1919-1939 by Arthur Lewis   Tourism: https://traveltips.usatoday.com/effects-tourism-caribbean-63368.html https://www.caribbean-council.org/tourism-statistics-bigger-picture/ https://www.traveldailynews.com/post/tourism-to-the-caribbean-grew-44-in-2019 http://www.caribbeanhotelandtourism.com/data-center/data-center-report/   Green industry: https://www.unido.org/our-focus-cross-cutting-services-green-industry/green-industry-initiative https://simplicable.com/new/green-industry https://canari.org/news/caribbean-government-leadership-needed-to-green-economic-sectors/#:~:text=Greening%20key%20economic%20sectors%20is,tourism%2C%20transportation%2C%20and%20water.&text=One%20pathway%20is%20via%20%E2%80%9Cgreening%E2%80%9D%20key%20economic%20sectors. https://pubs.iied.org/sites/default/files/pdfs/migrate/16572IIED.pdf? https://www.unenvironment.org/news-and-stories/news/caribbean-region-lead-way-green-economy-0 https://www.forbes.com/sites/daphneewingchow/2020/07/31/green-growth-has-made-dominica-the-fastest-growing-economy-in-the-caribbean/?sh=1cc9280177a1   Where does hair come from?: https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-37781147 http://warwickaseanconference.com/a-hairy-situation-hair-trade-in-southeast-asia/ https://theaseanpost.com/article/human-hair-trade-exploiting-asean-women https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/secret-history-buying-and-selling-hair-180961080/ https://theaseanpost.com/article/human-hair-trade-asean https://www.economist.com/asia/2017/07/27/how-wigs-tell-the-story-of-modern-south-korea   Creatives that supported this episode: We are inspired and thankful to the creatives who've helped with the construction of this podcast. "Valen-time is Comin'..."

Not us actually delivering premium content to you on a consistent basis as promised(??) This week's episode of The RumDowne is all about LoOvE- we're dishing on all the things you did (and probably did not) want to know about our own thoughts and perceptions on topics ranging from our definitions of love now vs. the definitions we were raised with, some cringe-worthy Valentine’s Day stories, and… "do soulmates really exist?" Plus, we have a special guest star appearance from our good ole' buddy-pal Nathan! Listen in to hear our spicy conversations right on time for one of the world's 'Top 5 Most Overpriced National Holidays' (we're a bit of a critic, but we also love LoOvE over here). "Bottom's Up" folks, enjoy!   Creatives that supported this episode: We are inspired and thankful to the creatives who've helped with the construction of this podcast. Please be sure to follow our friend Nathan who just so happens to also be 1/4 of 'The Knuckle Sandwich Podcast'! Be sure to follow them on all their streaming platforms for a hearty, yet wholesome laugh! We'd also like to thank @RealRhodesSounds for allowing us to use their jazzy mood-setter background music sample!
