Uninformed and Dubious

I listened to this show for years because I appreciated Ries’ approach in making faith accessible and was following along genuinely hoping to see improvements in my life, but I have come to realize that many of his ideas can do more harm than good, and in my opinion, were actually a major detriment to improving my mental health. Many (if not most) of the solutions and concepts presented on the show are not evidence-based, claims of success seem over-the-top and overhyped, arguments are often made using more emotional manipulation than fact, and the hosts and even some guests usually don’t show the critical thinking to adequately address the issues of mental health and substance abuse that this show is supposed to be about. Even though they may be well-intentioned, they are also not as culturally competent as you’d think and are not truly representative of the skateboarding/action sports and punk communities. Skaters deserve better mental health experts and even though this show may for some be briefly helpful in finding faith, I would recommend you find a better local church aligned with a major denomination rather than follow along with them. Don’t be fooled. There are better options.
