    This week we are looking at the development of the coronavirus. On campus, APIDJ is spreading awareness about the racist messaging being spread about the disease. In Missouri, public health officials are preparing for the worse but hoping for the best in relation to the disease. Nationally, President Trump has come under fire for his handling of the response to the disease and his appointing of Vice President Mike Pence to head the prevention effort.     In this Episode we cover some of what to expect in the upcoming elections in Missouri on March 10th. First, we look at WashU students organizing for Democratic presidential nomination hopefuls. Next we explore the impact that new legislation that has been introduced in Missouri could affect the voting make-up of elections.     In this episode we cover budgets. WashU's SU Budget was debated and concluded on last Saturday, with some slight changes to the process and to funding. Then we turn to the new funds being allocated in an effort to bring broadband internet access to rural Missouri. Lastly, we cover the Trump administrations proposed budgets and what it would mean for social safety net programs and to security costs.     This week we are covering the topic of healthcare in a myriad of situations. We begin at WashU where reforms to the mental health facilities at the Habif Health and Wellness center are being made in consult with student concerns. In Missouri, the provision to expand Medicaid is up in the air and may have potential ramifications for rural hospitals. More broadly, the Trump administration has come out with a new plan that would change that way that medicaid funding occurs throughout the United States.     This week, we cover the impact of the Coronavirus on three different communities. We start by looking at the impact the disease has had locally on campus and then move onto the U.S. and China. The U.S. has taken multiple efforts to restrict travel to and from China's mainland while China has also implemented new protocols to prevent the spread of the virus. In addition, we look at the impact of the disease on other industries such as stocks and U.S. hospitals.

    This week on The Scope we cover WashU's college Democrat's efforts to encourage voter turnout, the Missouri Supreme Court's ruling against a voter ID law, and Seattle's experiment with mobile phone voting.

    Illinois becomes the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana and its effects go beyond just sales. Missouri activists look to the Illinois system as a guide as they push for legislation that would legalize the drug in Missouri. Finally, we go beyond and see the effects that THC vaping devices have had on the U.S. population amid widespread illness due to the products.

    Jan. 12th, 2020

    This episode looks at the developments in crime prevention at the University and State-wide level. Washington University in St. Louis responds to several armed robberies near campus. In the Missouri legislature, a new session raises new questions about gun control legislation and the best way to prevent violent crime in major cities. Lastly, the Virginia State government faces its own challenges about tackling the gun epidemic while simultaneously trying to win reelection.
