The Silent Footprints | Stillbirth, Miscarriage, SIDS, Stigma, Baby Loss, Grief, SHINE for Autumn Act, Advocate, Legislation,

Lisa Rowell

Have you lost a baby to miscarriage, stillbirth, or SIDS? Do you feel like no one understands the depth of your grief? Maybe you’re angry, bitter, depressed—or drowning in a sea of emotions that feel impossible to name, let alone explain. Perhaps you’ve heard well-meaning but hurtful comments or received advice that made you feel even more isolated. You might be wondering, Where is God in all of this? Or why our country hasn’t done more to prevent stillbirths and support grieving families. You are not alone. And this podcast is for you. I’m Lisa Rowell. In 2013, I gave birth to my stillborn daughter, Julianna Grace. That moment shattered my world. I didn’t know how to survive the pain. I wrestled with God, with grief, with questions no one seemed to want to answer. Ten years ago, I found myself on the edge of despair, holding a bottle of liquor and a handful of pills, ready to give up—until God stepped in and changed everything. From the ashes of that heartbreak, a calling was born. Through The Silent Footprints, I invite you into a space that is real, raw, and unapologetically honest about infant loss. Here, we break the silence and stigma around miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, and early infant death. We talk about what it's like to grieve in a world that doesn’t know what to say—and how to heal when your heart feels shattered. My Christian faith has been the foundation of my journey, and it’s through God’s strength that I found purpose in my pain. I started the Julianna Grace Ministry by creating grieving baskets for parents like me. That effort grew into funding cuddle cots and caring cradles for local hospitals—tools that allow families precious time with their babies. Later, God opened the door for me to help pass legislation in Louisiana, offering tax credits to families of stillborn babies and giving dignity through certificates of miscarriage. This podcast isn’t just about healing—it's about action. I believe we can change the way our nation handles stillbirth and miscarriage. I believe grieving families deserve recognition, support, and resources. You’ll hear about efforts to pass laws across the country, tools like fetal monitoring apps, and ways you can advocate in your own state or even at the national level. Through heartfelt stories, faith-filled encouragement, and practical advocacy tips, The Silent Footprints empowers grieving parents to honor their babies and reclaim their voices. Whether you're freshly grieving or years down the road, this podcast will walk with you through the valleys and help you find purpose on the other side of pain. You may feel broken right now, but God is not finished with your story. You are not alone. Your baby’s life mattered. And your life still holds meaning. As Psalm 27:13 says, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” I never thought I’d feel joy again—but God made a way. Now I want to share that hope with you. So, if you're tired of suffering in silence, if you're ready to heal, speak out, and even create change—subscribe and join me. Let’s walk this road together, one step, one story, one prayer at a time. “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord.” – Psalm 27:14

85 | Angel’s Law: The Beginning of a Nationwide Shift in Bereavement Care | Star Legacy Foundation with Sarah Rodriguez

Send us Fan Mail In this timely episode, we explore the growing movement to bring compassionate bereavement care into hospitals across the United States. Last year, Texas made history with Everly’s Law—the first bill of its kind—establishing standards for bereavement care and requiring hospitals maternity wards to provide cooling cradles. These cradles allow grieving families the sacred gift of time with their baby after loss. Now, Louisiana is stepping forward with Senate Bill 32, also known as Angel’s Law. This legislation aims to provide similar care in NICU’s and Maternity Wards—ensuring that families facing unimaginable loss are met with dignity, compassion, and support during their most difficult moments.  But implementing meaningful change like this can come with challenges and costs. That’s where organizations like the Star Legacy Foundation come in. Rather than each state starting from scratch, Star Legacy offers established, evidence-based resources that hospitals can immediately utilize—ranging from stillbirth prevention research and bereavement training to nurse accreditation, support groups, and continuing education. As more states begin to consider similar legislation, partnerships with organizations like Star Legacy Foundation could be the key to making bereavement care both effective and sustainable. Join us as Sarah Rodriguez shares how the Star Legacy Foundation is helping shape the future of bereavement care—equipping hospitals, supporting families, and working to prevent stillbirth through education and advocacy. Founded in 2006 by bereaved families, the Star Legacy Foundation has grown into a nationwide network of healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates dedicated to stillbirth awareness, prevention, and compassionate care. Their mission continues to impact families across the country—bringing hope, support, and change where it’s needed most. 83 | Beast Games Finalist Cory Sims: Faith, Pregnancy Loss, and What Five Million Can’t Buy

Send us Fan Mail Cory Sims, player #191 on Beast Games, made it all the way to the final round—standing just one step away from the $5 million grand prize. To many, walking away without the money might look like defeat. But for Cory, it wasn’t. After watching Beast Games, I felt a strong nudge to reach out to him through social media. I had a feeling Cory and his wife might have one to share. Knowing that 1 in 4 women experience pregnancy or infant loss, I wondered if their journey might include both heartbreak and hope. In today’s episode, Cory opens up about a personal story he and his wife have walked through—three devastating losses and three incredible blessings. Through grief, unanswered questions, and moments where he wished he could take away his wife’s pain, Cory shares what it was like to stand beside her when there was nothing he could do to fix the hurt. Yet through it all, they stayed rooted in God’s Word and prayer, finding strength in their faith even in the hardest moments. Just a week before I reached out to him, Cory released his book, What Five Million Can’t Buy: Faith, Integrity, and the True Definition of Winning. In it, he shares more about the faith that guided him—something viewers didn’t fully see on Beast Games—and how true victory isn’t measured by money, but by faith, integrity, and staying true to what matters most. This is a powerful conversation about loss, faith, marriage, and redefining what it really means to win. LETS STAY CONNECTED: Link Tree Instagram Facebook Twitter Website Give if you feel led. 81 | Whom Shall I Send? Kristi Lamarque-Bordelon’s “Send Me” and Louisiana Senate Bill 32 Angel's Law

Send us Fan Mail Have you ever met someone you had been praying for… without even knowing who they were yet?  After nearly 13 years of my personal prayer, God raised up Kristi Lamarque-Bordelon — a compassionate registered nurse with years of experience in bereavement care — to help change the way families are supported after the loss of a baby. Kristi is the face behind Senators proposed Senate Bill 32 known as Angel's Law. Kristi’s journey began in the place of grief. After the loss of her own child, who was born and died at 20 weeks, her life took an unexpected turn. Nursing had never been part of her plan. Even after completing her prerequisites, she doubted she would be accepted into nursing school. She never wanted to work in labor and delivery — it felt too painful, too close to her own loss.  She began working with children and, over time, found herself in labor and delivery. During those years, she experienced additional losses and wrestled with questions she didn’t yet understand. Then one day, a fellow nurse told her, “I think you should work in bereavement.” Around that same time, a missionary at church preached on the Great Commission and asked, “Will you go?” Kristi said yes — not knowing where God would send her. That same week, she was approached again about bereavement care. It was then she realized: this was her calling. One evening, while watching television — something she rarely did — she heard about Everly’s Law. She felt prompted to research what it would take to pass similar legislation in Louisiana. Believing she was simply being obedient, she emailed several legislators. Within a week, Senator Patrick McMath’s office scheduled a conference call. In this episode, Kristi shares what is currently missing in hospital bereavement care, what compassionate and standardized care should look like, and how cooling devices like a CuddleCot or Caring Cradle can give grieving families the priceless gift of time with their baby. She also speaks to the urgent need for universal education and consistent standards for nurses across Louisiana.
