Podmas has started (yay!) and on this episode we're catching up with Jane Badger (Jane Badger Books), Liz Daniels (EquiTeam) and Tracey Cole (Tracey Cole NLP).
Not only do we hear about their businesses and how they can help you with your Christmas gifting dilemmas, they also share their Christmas thoughts, whether Scrooge was misunderstood, if gravy or bread sauce 'wins' for them, and if any Christmas products received have ever been regifted! There's lots more too!

5 underrated superpowers in business and life

5 underrated superpowers in business and life

Superpowers aren't just reserved for superheroes, far from it, we have superpowers (things we can do better than others- that's my definition anyway!) and we can even develop them if we put the work in.
When we look at people's attributes/qualifications/achievements/skills, some seem to shine brighter than others. These are often ones that it's easier to quantify, but actually, I think the game changing superpowers are a whole lot more subtle. And that's what I am talking about today- five underrated superpowers that can do so much.
The thing is, these superpowers can be honed and developed when self awareness is present. They can move talented people to the next level, leave a lasting impression (for the right reasons) and open the door to so many opportunities. We all have access to these and many others, and yet, only a fraction of people are aware of what they can do.
Put on your metaphorical skin-tight superhero outfits and let's talk superpowers.

Can a merchandiser help your small business?

Can a merchandiser help your small business?

If you've always thought that a merchandiser was solely concerned with how to display product, think again, there's a LOT more to this role than you (or I!) might think, as Sarah Giddings, founder of The Stables Retail Consultancy shares on today's podcast.
On this episode, Sarah talks about her journey from high street powerhouse Next to starting her own business, how we can all apply some big brand thinking to stock levels and buying, the importance of the right data, what to do if you haven't been collecting valuable information to date, and plenty more besides.
She also shares some top tips that you can apply today to produce better results... I think this is a must for product based businesses, and a podcast that delivers lots of value and lots of things to think about too...

How not to use awareness days- exploiting them is NOT ok!

How not to use awareness days- exploiting them is NOT ok!

Awareness days can be an incredible part of your content calendar, and a huge force for good. Some brands get on board and promote the messaging, raise money for the cause or charity, and generally do really good, positive things that help truly support the cause.
    And some, don't.
As we emerge from October and Breast Cancer Awareness month, I have been genuinely saddened to see some brands exploiting this month to further their own reach and growth with zero connection to the cause. Yes, being connected to an awareness day can be very positive from a business perspective, but if you're doing this through exploitation- in my opinion at least- it's not OK.
On this episode, I talk about how to use awareness days properly, for the benefit of all concerned... it's really not that hard and a huge amount of good can be done by supporting these calendar events correctly. Here's how...

Building Childs Farm and owning the front half of a Paralympic horse with Joanna Jensen

Building Childs Farm and owning the front half of a Paralympic horse with Joanna Jensen

Childs Farm is a brand I know well, thanks to one of my children using a whole lot of it when he was small, but I didn't know all about the lady behind the brand until we chatted for this week's podcast- and what a lady she is!
Joanna Jensen started her Childs Farm journey in response to her own daughter's need for something that helped her skin but also smelt nice and made bath times fun. As her business grew, so did Joanna's desire to give back, and one of Joanna's outlets was RDA and supporting this incredible charity through her work with her brand.
Then a meeting at a dinner with the legend that is Natasha Baker gave Joanna the chance to take a different role in equestrian sport, through becoming a part owner of Natasha's Lottie aka Keystone Dawn Chorus. This duo went on to compete in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo... well, she actually took two silvers individually and team gold, but who's counting?!
Joanna talks about how she grew and sold a majority share in her business, what she's doing now, a special event next year, and what it's been like to be involved with the RDA and para dressage at the highest level. It's a lovely one to listen to.

Don't wait for January 1st- act now

Don't wait for January 1st- act now

2024 might feel close, but with over 60 days to go, there's still a lot of time to make a difference. Please don't wait for the clock to strike midnight and the New Year to begin, act now!
Why do we wait when we can act? And how much progress do we miss out on when we put these dates in our heads that make us pause in the pursuit of our dreams? On today's episode, I'm sharing my views on this and why, in my opinion at least, we need not wait, we need to act.
An incident last week reminded me very clearly that tomorrow isn't guaranteed for anyone, and this was part of what came from this time of thought.
