Episode 159: Have you experienced this Lightroom glitch?

Hey hey! Today we chat about a pretty dumb Lightroom glitch where the image doesn't skip when you want it to - and through our own testing we might've found a workaround! Tom also gets hustled by a Facebook Marketplace user - but Big T get the last laugh. We also chat more about the a9iii... what a beast!

    158: Less portraits, more photojournalism

    158: Less portraits, more photojournalism

    Hi Snappers

In 159 Greg and Thom discuss a big shift in mindset when it comes to shooting weddings: that of shooting fewer portraits, and allocating less portrait time, and placing more emphasis on documenting the day as a whole, and shooting more like a photojournalist.
Thom has also discovered the G.O.A.T of Lightroom shortcut key software: PowerKeys!

157: Tom has a road kill story and Greg talks workflows

157: Tom has a road kill story and Greg talks workflows

Yo yo! So Tom has a pretty savage road kill story that kinda kills the mood... then Greg tries to salvage it with a workflow epiphany. No matter how hard we try to talk about things unrelated to photography we keep seeming to make them link back to photo stuff!

Episode 156: 'FloGate' and Greg might transition to a studio business model

Episode 156: 'FloGate' and Greg might transition to a studio business model

    Greetings, Snappers

Today's episode has some SERIOUS thicc topics and some mega deep cuts!

First, we chat about FloGate - Pixieset's recent decision to kill off FloThemes, the Wordpress theme company we all know and love (and most of us use). Thom explains how he has already bailed and fully rebuilt his website with Kadence blocks.

Greg then drops the bombshell that he's considering moving to a studio business model - taking bookings then sending out associate shooters to shoot the weddings, while keeping all admin and editing in-house. We talk about the positives and negatives of this approach, and the logistics of this kind of move.

We also babble on about obscure Simpsons songs :)

Episode 154: Clients THINK they want unposed photos... but do they really?

    THE SNAPPENING RETURNETH

Hey everyone, we are back! Sorry it's been a while. Greg and Thom have both been traveling, and while we did take microphones with us and really wanted to record on the road, we just didn't get there. Super stoked to be back into it and record weekly again.

In episode 154 we start off with a good old rant. We've noticed that some photographers keep their books closed for a certain future period, and then make a big fanfare about opening them up. In this episode we get down the nitty gritty on why people do this. We also talk about clients who THINK they want non-posed photos.... but is this actually what they want?

The answers to these questions and many more lie in today's episode, come check it out!

How I Learned About Magpies lol

This podcast series is one of the most enjoyable - it feels like you’re listening in on a conversation with good friends. Although I’m based in the US and my focus isn’t wedding photography (although I have 2nd shot several weddings before), I find the material very fascinating and relatable. If you’re a professional full-time wedding photographer or just own a photography business, I imagine the information of the trade that they share is invaluable - sort of like participating in a message board of other wedding photography pros. The one takeaway I have from their podcast when I hear the stories of their dealings with clients that involve challenges, nightmares, heartwarming relationships, and/or funny incidents is this: despite being separated by country, culture, and accents, people are people everywhere.

Keep up the great job!

So raw. Much needed!

USA based wedding photographer here! Typically I prefer my podcasts straight to the point and I’m not a big fan of “waffling” as y’all say. However, the authenticity and humor in this banter has made it one of my favorites. I appreciate the dabbles of personal life (dogs vs cats), ideas of how to elevate the process (pros/cons of prints at weddings) and also the photographer banter (how to avoid guest tables at weddings.) Keep it up guys!

Stoked

Oddly enough, I have absolutely nothing to do with wedding photography. I shoot and film mostly BMX and skateboarding. I stumbled upon this podcast looking for reviews of the Sony A7iii; I’ve been hooked ever since. I not only love the knowledge that is put out, but also love the random tangents that occur. Thanks dudes 🤘🏼
