SE:117. Talking Adult ADHD - With Jess Basson

This Week’s Questions: Jess, when did you suspect you might have ADHD? Looking back, what were your childhood signs? How can ADHD be a superpower? What strategies have you learned that can help us all?   SOUL Group Questions: Ask each other these questions to build a stronger connection with a friend or in your Soul Group.   Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental condition defined by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity starting in childhood. ADHD affects daily function in all aspects of life – home, school, work – because it impacts executive functions such as focus, organization, and impulse control.   1.    Laura and Jess discussed the damaging effects of labels or diagnoses we and others place upon us. These words spoken over us can categorize us or put us in what feels like a “cage”. Share a time when you felt locked in a “cage” based on a label.   2.    Jess was vulnerable and shared how being diagnosed with ADHD felt like seeing the puzzle box cover, not just random pieces scattered on the table. When have your eyes been opened to a new reality that finally put the pieces of your life together?   3.    When was the last time you reached out and asked someone for help with something you’re struggling with? What did you glean from this help? What did you learn from yourself?   4.    What are you currently puzzling about that you need God or others to help you with? What could you pray for? Who might be a few steps ahead of you that could help? What’s your first step towards clarity and greater understanding?   Connect with the Soul Enchilada: Have a question for us? SE 116: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome. Why You ARE Enough. With Jess Basson

This Week’s Listener Question: Why do you think imposter syndrome is so prevalent today? What are some practical strategies women can use when the voice in their heads is telling them they’re an imposter?    SOUL Group Questions: Ask each other these questions to build a stronger connection with a friend or in your Soul Group.   Imposter Syndrome is the feeling that your success is not deserved and that you’re secretly not as competent as others think you are, even when you are capable and have evidence of your abilities or achievements.   1.    When does imposter syndrome show up for you? Where are you? How are you feeling? Can you define any patterns around these occurrences?   2.    Laura and Jess shared how they’ve been called too much, too loud, and too controlling. How would you complete this sentence? People have said I’m too…   3.    Remembering all the challenges you’ve faced in the past can build self-confidence and diminish imposter syndrome. Make a list of 3-5 times in your life you have endured hardship or persevered through challenges. Congratulations!   4.    Another strategy to reduce imposter syndrome is to focus on the facts, not just your feelings. What are you learning? How are you growing? Who are you becoming? These kinds of questions can fuel your confidence and help you believe in your unique abilities and remarkable achievements.   5.    Application – Share with a trusted friend or family member something you’re proud of or something you’re doing that makes a difference in the world. How can you celebrate small victories in your life?   Connect with the Soul Enchilada: Have a question for us? Please send them to questions@soulenchilada.com. SE 112: Bridging the Gaps By Leading With Love, with special guest Dina Bucholz

This Week’s Listener Question: This week, Laura talks with longtime friend, author, and Orthodox Jewish woman Dinah Bucholz about how to love our neighbors in a world where antisemitism is ever present for Dinah and her family. They share real stories, raw emotions, and highlight how we can lead with love, even when our neighbors have different faith practices or worldviews.   SOUL Group Questions: Ask each other these questions to build a stronger connection with a friend or in your Soul Group.   1. What about Laura and Dinah’s conversation encouraged or challenged you?   2. Have you ever experienced or witnessed racial and religious cruelty similar to Dinah’s daughter being shoved off the subway? If so, how did you feel, and what did you learn?   3. In what ways can we take the time to learn more about our neighbors who may hold different beliefs or view the world through a unique lens?   4. Dinah explained that love is about doing, not necessarily about feeling.
