These hosts have remarkable perseverance and courage. I grew up in this movement but my wife and I uprooted our family from it for precisely the reasons these hosts talk about. I’m encouraged that there are people looking to make change , even if I’m doubtful that the ICOC can afford to make the kind of changes required to really address these issues. I hope these episodes lead to curious , empathetic conversations and lasting change

Thank you so much for speaking up and saying the things soooo many of us are thinking but got shut down at even the mention of them! I’m so grateful to the Spacemakers for creating this podcast especially during a time when so many of us are in difficult spaces with our faith and the lives we knew in church. I can’t wait to hear more from this podcast. Every episode just keeps validating the thoughts and feelings I’ve had for years. Thank you!

I want to thank you all for your courage and vulnerability to put this out there. I have been a disciple- member of the ICOC since 1989 and still going to the Hampton roads church. This is so relevant for my two teen daughters and frankly for all of us. I do hope you continue the conversation and would love to help in any way possible. Mark

The spacemakers do a wonderful job of finding the balance between sharing the hard truths about their own experiences and finding the potential for growth and connection in every situation. It’s clear that their goal is not to criticize, but to hold the tension between our successes and what we can do better within our faith communities, in addition to having discussions to bridge intergenerational gaps. One of my favorite episodes was when they discussed the dangers of telling a single story/narrative rather than opening ourselves to the diversity of the human experience, both within the church and outside of it. So much wisdom shared by the spacemakers and their guests alike. (The Marty Solomon episode is another favorite!) I admire them greatly and have gotten multiple members of my family hooked on the podcast as well! This has led to many deep and meaningful conversations within my family that may not have happened in another context.
