    From 1984 to '85, both sides of the Tug Fork river on the West Virginia / Kentucky border were occupied by private security forces, green berets, mercenaries, and other muscle for the bosses to terrorize striking coal miners under the UMWA.     27. May Day, 1950: When the USSR Invaded Wisconsin w/ Nick Graf

    Researcher Nick Graf joins The State Between Us to talk about the strangest May Day celebration the Midwestern United States ever had. In 1950, the American Legion organized a "high-effort LARP", transforming the small town of Mosinee, Wisconsin into the avant-garde of the "United Soviet States of America", complete with borscht, detention camps, and mock executions on "Red Square". *note: Nick points out that he said the editor's name was "Bill Schweinler" when in fact it was "Francis Schweinler".
