The Tending Hour

with Mary Jane

You have followed the plans, done the things you were supposed to do, and still felt like something essential was missing. That missing piece has a name: the whole of you. The Tending Hour exists because real wellness was never meant to be one-dimensional. It isn't just physical. It isn't just spiritual. It isn't just relational. It is all of it, together, and when all three dimensions are genuinely tended to, something shifts that no single habit, morning routine, or wellness plan could ever touch. Hosted by Mary Jane, Integrative Health & Wellness Coach, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and founder of Trilateral Transformation. Each episode moves through the three dimensions of whole-person wellness: Spiritual Life, Physical Well-Being, and Relational World. Every episode is a warm, unhurried conversation with yourself — the kind that leaves you quietly transformed, gently permission-given, and a little more at home in your own life. For listeners who want to go further, companion workbooks are available for every season at TrilateralTransformation.com. No hustle culture. No one-size-fits-all advice. Just whole-person wisdom, delivered like a wise friend who happens to know a lot about how humans actually thrive. Subscribe, and tend to all of you. ~ For educational purposes only. Season 1

  1. Episode 1

S1E1 - Welcome to The Whole of You: Why Wellness Requires All Three Dimensions

You have followed the plans, done the things you were supposed to do, and still felt like something essential was missing. That missing piece has a name: the whole of you.   In this very first episode of The Tending Hour, Mary Jane introduces the Trilateral Transformation framework, and the simple, profound idea that real wellness isn't one-dimensional. It lives at the intersection of your Spiritual Life, your Physical Well-Being, and your Relational World. And when all three are genuinely tended to, something shifts that no single habit or morning routine could ever touch.   This episode is an invitation: to stop performing wellness and start living it. On your own terms. In the whole of who you are. This week, I invite you to simply notice. Over the next few days, gently observe which of the three dimensions feels most tended to right now — and which one might be quietly asking for your attention.   Not to fix anything. Not to judge anything. Just to see it. Awareness is where every real shift begins.   The three dimensions to notice: • Your Spiritual Life — your inner world, your sense of meaning, the quiet voice you trust (or are learning to) • Your Physical Well-Being — how your body feels, what it is asking for, how you are listening • Your Relational World — the connections that restore you, the ones that drain you, and the honesty available between you and the people you love If today's episode opened something in you — if you felt a pull toward exploring the three dimensions more deeply and at your own pace — the Trilateral Transformation Program is the deeper container for this work.   Each phase of the program spans multiple weeks of video lessons, lived practices, and a workbook designed to take what you are discovering here and make it genuinely, durably, personally yours. Not another plan to follow. A practice to live. If this episode resonated with you, leaving a review helps The Tending Hour reach more people who need it. Thank you for being here.

  2. Episode 2

S1E2 - The Body That Knows: Learning to Trust Your Inner Signals Again

When is the last time you truly trusted yourself? Not trusted yourself to handle something externally but trusted what your body was telling you. Trusted the quiet knowing that arrived before your mind caught up.   For most of us, that kind of trust got interrupted somewhere along the way. And in Episode 2 of The Tending Hour, that is exactly where we begin.   This episode explores trust across all three dimensions of whole-person wellness: how it lives in your spiritual life as inner knowing, in your physical well-being as the body's own wisdom, and in your relational world as the safety to be honest about what you actually need. And it offers one simple, grounding practice to begin bringing it back — one small moment at a time.   You didn't lose your ability to trust yourself. You just got very practiced at not listening. That changes here. This week's practice is the Trust Check-In. You can do it anywhere, anytime, in about sixty seconds.   Pause. Place a hand on your chest or belly if that feels right. Take one slow breath. Then ask yourself three questions, one for each dimension:   • For your Spiritual Life: What do I know right now that I haven't said out loud yet? • For your Physical Well-Being: What is my body asking for in this moment? • For your Relational World: Where do I need to be more honest with someone, including myself?   You don't have to answer perfectly. You don't have to act on everything immediately. The practice is simply in the asking. In creating the pause. In treating yourself like someone whose inner life is worth a moment of genuine attention. Trust is one of the foundational themes of Phase 1 — Align — in the Trilateral Transformation Program. In the program, we spend multiple weeks living inside this territory, approaching it from different angles and depths across all three dimensions. Not just understanding trust intellectually but inhabiting it. Letting it become the new ground you stand on.   If today opened something for you, the program is the deeper container for this work, and it can be found at Trilateral Transformation. 3. Episode 3

S1E3 - Rest Is Not a Reward: Reframing Sleep as an Act of Self-Trust

When was the last time you rested without first finishing the list, earning the break, or feeling like you had done enough to deserve it?   Most of us have absorbed a belief so quietly that we don't even know we're carrying it: rest is a reward, not a right. And in Episode 3 of The Tending Hour, that belief gets examined — and gently, completely dismantled.   Mary Jane brings the science of sleep into a deeply human conversation — what is actually happening in your body and brain while you rest, why chronic under-sleeping makes you less able to trust yourself, and how your relational world, physical well-being, and spiritual life all feel the cost of rest that is withheld.   This episode also includes a practical, honest invitation for the week — not a sleep routine to follow, but a question to sit with. Because the willingness to believe you are worth the rest is where everything begins. This week's practice is a two-part invitation — not a sleep routine to follow, but a question to sit with and one small experiment to try.   Part One — The Honest Inventory: Ask yourself, just for yourself: How am I actually sleeping right now? And what has sleep been sacrificed for? There are no wrong answers — only the honest one.   Part Two — The 30-Minute Wind-Down: Choose one evening this week to begin winding down thirty minutes earlier than usual. Not to sleep earlier necessarily — just to begin the transition. Dim the lights. Put down the phone. Let your body start to understand that the day is ending and rest is coming.   Not because you've earned it. Because you need it. Because you are worth the rest. Sleep is one of the foundational themes explored across multiple weeks in Phase 1 — Align — of the Trilateral Transformation Program. In the program, we go far beyond what any single episode can hold — examining your specific relationship with rest, the rhythms your body is actually asking for, and what it would mean to tend to sleep as a genuine act of self-care rather than a logistical necessity.   If today opened something for you, the program is the deeper container for this work, and it can be found at Trilateral Transformation. S1E4 - What Your Emotions Are Actually Saying: Reading Feelings as Data, Not Drama

Most of us were never taught how to have emotions. We were taught how to handle them. Manage them. Express them appropriately. Keep them proportionate. And so we became very skilled performers of emotional life — and very disconnected from what we actually felt.   In this Phase 1 finale of The Tending Hour, Mary Jane turns toward the thread that runs through everything — the emotional life we have been managing rather than meeting. Drawing on neuroscience, the concept of emotional granularity, and the research of Antonio Damasio, this episode makes a compelling case for what most of us were never told: your emotions are not the problem. They are some of the most sophisticated information your body has.   This episode closes Phase 1 — Align — and opens the door to Phase 2, where the real work of integration begins. It includes the Emotional Inquiry practice: three simple steps for beginning to listen to what your emotions have been trying to say.   If you have been carrying feelings you don't know what to do with — this one is for you.   This week's practice is the Emotional Inquiry — three steps for beginning to listen to what your emotions have been trying to tell you.   When you notice a feeling arising — whatever it is, however inconvenient the timing — try this:   • Name it. Get specific. Not just 'I feel bad' — but what kind of bad? Sad? Disappointed? Ashamed? Afraid? Lonely? Resentful? The more precisely you can name it, the more agency you have with it. • Locate it. Where does this feeling live in your body right now? Tightness in your chest? A heaviness in your shoulders? A knot in your stomach? Emotions always have a physical address. Finding it helps move the feeling from something abstract into something real and workable. • Ask it one question: What are you trying to tell me? Not to demand an answer. Just to open the door. To treat the emotion as the messenger it is — and give it the dignity of being asked.   You don't have to act on what comes. You don't have to share it with anyone. You only have to be willing to listen.   Emotions are one of the foundational themes woven through multiple weeks of Phase 1 — Align — in the Trilateral Transformation Program. In the program, we spend significant time in this territory: learning to name, locate, and listen to what our emotional life is actually saying across all three dimensions of wellness. The workbook for this phase includes some of the most revealing reflection prompts in the entire program.   If today opened something for you — if something rose to the surface that you weren't expecting — the program is the deeper container for this work.   Enjoyed this episode? 5. Episode 5

S1E5 - Feeling Safe in Your Own Life: What Nervous System Regulation Really Requires

Most of us are braced. Right now, as you read this, there is likely some degree of tension held somewhere in your body. Not because something is wrong. Because your nervous system learned, somewhere along the way, to stay ready.   In this Phase 2 opener of The Tending Hour, Mary Jane introduces the theme that underlies everything in Integrate: safety. Not safety as the absence of risk, but safety as a felt experience — in your body, in your spiritual life, and in your relational world — that you may not have fully known was missing until right now.   Drawing on Polyvagal Theory and the concept of the window of tolerance, this episode makes a case for why you cannot think your way into feeling safe, and what it actually takes to create the conditions where real integration can happen. It includes the Safety Anchor practice: a simple, sixty-second somatic tool you can use anywhere to help your nervous system find its way home.   You are allowed to exhale now.   This week's practice is the Safety Anchor: a simple, sixty-second somatic tool you can use anywhere to help your nervous system find its way back to safety. It works because it uses your body's own language, sensation, to communicate what words alone cannot.   Three steps. Less than sixty seconds:   • Contact. Find one physical point of contact — your feet on the floor, your back against a chair, your hands resting in your lap. Feel the weight of your body being held by whatever is beneath you. The floor is here. Something is holding you. • Breath. Take one breath that is slightly longer on the exhale than the inhale — in for four counts, out for six. Just once is enough. The extended exhale activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the branch responsible for rest and the felt sense of safety. • Sight. Look around your space and find three things that are not threatening. Not necessarily beautiful or meaningful, just not dangerous. Let your eyes rest on each one for a moment. You are teaching your nervous system to see safety where it actually exists.   Contact. Breath. Sight. Done consistently — especially in moments when you feel that familiar grip of anxiety — this practice begins to build new pathways. A nervous system that knows, increasingly, how to find its way home.   Safety is the foundational theme that opens Phase 2: Integrate in the Trilateral Transformation Program. In the program, we spend multiple weeks inside this territory, working with the nervous system across all three dimensions — learning what safety actually feels like in the body, in our inner world, and in our relationships, and building the conditions that allow real integration to take root.   If today opened something for you — if you felt the beginning of an exhale that has been a long time coming — the program is the deeper container for this work.   Enjoyed this episode? 6. Episode 6

S1E6 - Nourishment on Your Own Terms: Releasing Food Rules That Were Never Yours

You did not fail the diet. The diet failed you.   In Episode 6 of The Tending Hour, Mary Jane takes on one of the most loaded topics in wellness — food — and approaches it in a way that most nutrition conversations never do. Not as a set of rules to follow, a plan to succeed or fail at, or a reflection of your discipline or worth. But as nourishment: deeply personal, profoundly relational, and as individual as the body receiving it.   Drawing on emerging research in personalized nutrition, the gut-brain axis, and the science of interoception, this episode makes a case for releasing every map drawn for someone else's body — and beginning to trust that your own body knows the way.   This episode also includes Mary Jane's own story about her evening eating rhythm — and why honoring it, rather than fighting it, changed everything. It is a permission slip as much as it is a teaching. And it includes the Nourishment Inquiry: a simple practice for beginning to listen differently to what your body is actually asking for.   This week's practice is the Nourishment Inquiry: a way of beginning to listen differently to what your body is actually asking for. For one week, bring curiosity to just one meal each day. Not judgment, not analysis — just genuine, open curiosity.   • Before you eat: Ask. What does my body actually want right now? Not what should I eat. Not what is allowed. What does this specific body, in this specific moment, genuinely want? • While you eat: Notice. What does this taste like? What does it feel like in my body? Am I present with this meal, or am I somewhere else entirely? • After you eat: Check in. Not to grade the meal, but simply to notice: How do I feel? Energized or heavy? Clear or foggy? Satisfied, or still reaching for something? And if still reaching, is what I'm looking for actually food?   That last question is one of the most important in the entire conversation about nourishment. Learning to tell the difference, with gentleness and without shame, is not discipline. It is self-knowledge.   Nourishment is one of the themes explored across multiple weeks in Phase 2: Integrate of the Trilateral Transformation Program. In the program, we look at your specific relationship with food: where it came from, what it has cost you, and what it could become. The workbook for this theme asks questions about nourishment that no nutrition program has ever thought to ask.   If today opened something for you, if you felt even a small loosening of the grip that food rules have had on you, there is so much more available in the program.   Enjoyed this episode? 7. Episode 7

S1E7 - The Beliefs Running Your Wellness: How Invisible Stories Shape Your Health Choices

You have done the work. The journaling, the programs, the practices. And still found yourself circling back to the same patterns, the same ceiling, the same quiet sense that real change is always just slightly out of reach.   In Episode 7 of The Tending Hour, Mary Jane goes to the deepest layer of whole-person wellness — the one that most programs never reach. Not habits. Not routines. Not information.   Beliefs.   The invisible architecture quietly shaping every health decision you make. The stories — absorbed in childhood, inherited from culture, written by experiences you never chose — that have been running the show beneath everything you consciously know and want.   Drawing on neuroscience and neuroplasticity research, this episode offers something genuinely liberating: you did not choose most of your beliefs. And you are not stuck with them. This episode explores what beliefs look like across all three dimensions of wellness, and introduces the Belief Audit: a three-step practice for surfacing, examining, and choosing something truer.   This week's practice is the Belief Audit: a three-step process for beginning to see and shift the beliefs quietly running your wellness. This is ongoing work, not a single exercise. Start with one area where you consistently struggle.   • Step 1 — Surface: Choose one area of your wellness where you keep circling back to the same pattern. Instead of asking what is wrong with your discipline, ask this: What would have to be true about me for this pattern to make complete sense? Sit with that. Write it down. What you find is the belief you are looking for. • Step 2 — Examine: Once you have surfaced the belief, hold it up honestly. Ask three questions: Where did this come from? Is it actually true — or does it feel true because it is familiar? And what has it cost me to live as though it were fact? • Step 3 — Choose: Find a statement that is slightly more true than the old belief. Not a forced affirmation. Something genuinely, incrementally truer. Not: I love my body completely. But, perhaps: My body is doing its best with what it has been given, and so am I. Small. Honest. Practiced consistently.   That is how beliefs change. Not in a single revelation. In the quiet, consistent practice of choosing a different thought, until one day it no longer feels like a choice. It simply feels like what is true.   Beliefs are explored across multiple weeks in Phase 2 — Integrate — of the Trilateral Transformation Program. In the program, the Belief Audit goes far deeper than any single episode can hold, with workbook prompts designed to surface the beliefs most likely to be operating beneath your wellness patterns across all three dimensions. Many people describe this as the week they finally understood why everything else had felt so difficult.   If today opened something, if you caught a glimpse of a belief that has been quietly running the show, the program is the deeper container for this work. 8. Episode 8

S1E8 - When the Pieces Start Connecting: What Real Integration Actually Feels Like

We have been taught to expect transformation to be dramatic. A moment. A before and after so clear that we could point to it on a calendar and say: there. That is when everything changed.   But most of the time, for most people, real lasting change is quieter than that. It looks like pausing before you react, just once, where before you would have responded immediately. It looks like choosing rest without guilt on a Tuesday afternoon. It looks like noticing a familiar belief and thinking: wait. Is that actually true?   In this Phase 2 finale of The Tending Hour, Mary Jane explores what integration actually feels like from the inside, and how to recognize it when it is happening, even when it does not look the way you expected. Drawing on Daniel Siegel's interpersonal neurobiology and the science of memory consolidation, this episode makes a compelling case for trusting the pace of your own process.   This episode closes Phase 2 — Integrate — and opens the door to Phase 3 — Embody. It includes the Integration Inventory: a reflective practice for seeing what has already shifted, and letting that evidence become the fuel for what comes next.   This week's practice is the Integration Inventory. It’s not about building something new, but about seeing what is already there. Find a quiet moment, with a journal if you have one, and sit with these questions. Let the answers come from your body as much as from your mind.   • In your Spiritual Life: Where have you noticed more trust in your own inner knowing recently? Is there a moment where you felt present with something sacred, however you define that? What has softened? • In your Physical Well-Being: Where have you been kinder to your body than you would have been before? Is there one way you listened to what your body needed and honored that, even once? What has shifted, even slightly, in how you inhabit your body? • In your Relational World: Where have you been more honest, more present, more boundaried, or more open than you would have been before this work began? Is there a relationship that feels even marginally safer? Is there one you have tended more carefully?   And then, this is the most important part, let yourself receive what comes. Do not dismiss it as too small. Do not immediately qualify it with everything that is still unfinished. Just receive the evidence that something is genuinely changing.   Phase 2 — Integrate — of the Trilateral Transformation Program spans multiple weeks of video lessons, lived practices, and a workbook that takes everything explored in this phase and makes it genuinely, durably yours. Safety. Nourishment. Beliefs. The work of integration — approached from multiple angles, at multiple depths, with real support.   And Phase 3 — Embody — is waiting on the other side. Twelve more weeks of connection, movement, and experience. The phase where people tell me they finally feel like themselves.   If you are ready to go deeper than this podcast can hold, the door is open.   Enjoyed this episode?
