    The Terrible Podcast — Broderick Jones Option Decision, Steelers Salary Cap Update, Consensus Draft Board Talk, & More

    May 1, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 130 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers and their decision to not pick up the fifth-year option on OT Broderick Jones this offseason. We also discuss whether that decision would have been different had Jones not gotten injured last season. Steelers WR Roman Wilson is reportedly changing his jersey number this offseason, so Alex and I go over that news in addition to a few other number changes that have apparently been made so far this offseason. In the middle of this show, Alex and I go over the latest salary cap update for the Steelers on the heels of the team's draft haul and the unrestricted free agent tendering of QB Aaron Rodgers. We also discuss the effective future salary cap space the Steelers now have and if the team will ultimately need to restructure a contract or two later in the offseason. With the annual NFL draft now behind us, Alex and I discuss the loud consensus draft board discussions going on right now. Is the consensus board a real thing? Who says so and what evidence is there that most NFL teams use it? We attempt to address those questions. Alex and I also discuss the Steelers and their need to start drafting and developing better, as evidenced by the team's top 10 cash earners for 2026 as of May 1. Steelers HC Mike McCarthy has had a few radio interviews since the draft has ended so we highlight a few of the notable things that he said during a few of them. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers and the recent roster moves the team has made. We discuss DL Dean Lowry deciding not to sign just yet and the Steelers cutting WR/QB John Rhys Plumlee on Tuesday. We also discuss the roster total number entering Wednesday. The Steelers surprised a lot of people on Tuesday when they placed an unrestricted free agent tender on QB Aaron Rodgers. Because of that move, Alex and I discuss the who, what, when and where related to the transaction. We attempt to clarify everything related to the tender and how it relates to the compensatory draft pick formula. Alex and I also discuss how Rodgers might take the tender transaction in addition to us building a short list of teams that might potentially consider signing Rodgers before July 22. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette seems pretty convinced that the Steelers won't go into the regular season with young quarterbacks Will Howard and Drew Allar as the only two backups behind Rodgers should he ultimately re-sign with the team. We give our thoughts on what Dulac said on the topic during the middle of this show.
