    The Tower of Babel has always felt like a distant story about a vengeful God. Jeremy and I dive into this story and reveal what knowledge we gained in translating it. The Tower of Babel is a story about empire and the quest for power, about poor theology and the dangerous cycle of confirmation bias. But, most importantly, it’s about the absolute necessity for diversity. Diversity in representation, voice, relationships, and power. Kyle Horst, the resident Psychologist on the project, joins Jeremy and Bonnie to talk about Narrative Therapy and why our stories matter in finding our place in the Divine story. In an Evangelical culture where we were taught the “self” was to be diminished, bad, and untrustworthy, we push back on this notion and suggest that our own stories are necessary in order to understand God. Kyle is a Psychology professor who, in addition, has his own private practice. He also is a writer and actor.     Episode 8 :: Between the Lines: Midrash with Amy-Jill Levine and Sandy Sasso

    On today’s episode Jeremy and Bonnie interview author and professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, and the first ordained Female Reconstructionist Rabbi Sandy Sasso. Together we talk all about the ancient Jewish concept of Midrash! Since Timshel resembles modern midrash, this episode is near and dear to our hearts. Dr. Levine and Rabbi Sasso have coauthored multiple children’s book in which they use midrash to help open up the text to young readers.
