My Body New Before I Did

The Transformative Nurse is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. There’s a kind of knowing that doesn’t speak in words. It comes as fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix. As tension in your jaw. A burning in your belly. A sigh you didn’t realize you were holding. My body had been whispering to me for years. And I—nurse, healer, high-functioning perfectionist—had learned to override it. Until I couldn’t anymore. The day it all cracked open was unremarkable on the surface. A Tuesday, maybe. I had charting overdue, patients waiting, an inbox full of tasks. But that morning, I sat in my car in the parking garage—unable to move. Frozen. My heart raced. My mouth was dry. I felt sick. Not like a virus. More like my soul was rejecting my own life. That moment, something ancient in me stirred. Not in my mind, but in my gut. And I heard the clearest truth I’d ever known: You can’t keep going like this. You’re abandoning yourself. I had spent years tending to others while neglecting the deepest wounds in me. I thought if I just worked harder, achieved more, kept showing up, it would eventually feel right. But healing—real healing—doesn’t come through achievement. It begins with listening. With choosing yourself. With reclaiming your own body, breath, and soul. That was the moment I began to learn what it truly meant to be a healer. Not someone who fixes others, but someone who remembers their own wholeness—and walks others home to theirs. Since then, my healing journey has looked nothing like I expected. It’s been messy, nonlinear, and often lonely. But it began with that one moment. That one truth: My body knew before I did. And when I finally listened, everything began to transform. [Pause… soft exhale] Thank you for listening. If this story resonated with you, I’d love to hear yours. You can share your story of transformation at [insert email/link], and we may feature it in a future episode. Until next time, may you honor the wisdom in your body—and the healer within. Season 1 Episode 1: Introduction to the Transformative Nurse

Podcast Episode 1: Introduction to The Transformative Nurse Title: Empowering the Inner Healer, Transforming Our Healthcare Opening Music: (Optional, soothing and uplifting instrumental music) Introduction: • "Welcome to the very first episode of The Transformative Nurse! I’m Melissa Morrigan, and I’m so excited to have you here with me as we embark on a journey of empowerment, transformation, and healing." Who I Am: • "I’m a Registered Nurse, a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) student specializing in Integrative Health and Healing, a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, and a Reiki II Practitioner working toward Reiki Mastery. Over the past decade, I’ve worked in diverse fields, including oncology, behavioral health, and even a stint in plastic surgery and aesthetics (that will definitely be on a future episode), and these experiences have profoundly shaped my understanding of health and healing." • "My healthcare philosophy is deeply inspired by integrative practices like Ayurveda, Traditional Tibetan Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and folk medicine practices using botanical medicines. These approaches remind us that humans are whole systems—mind, body, and spirit—inseparable from our environments. I believe in blending modern medicine with evidence-based integrative practices to create truly transformative care." What Inspired This Podcast: • "Throughout my career, I’ve seen the incredible resilience of the human spirit, but I’ve also seen the gaps in our healthcare system—gaps that leave patients, caregivers, and providers feeling unsupported. This podcast was born out of a desire to bridge those gaps by advocating for a more integrative and compassionate approach to healthcare." • "One of the transformative moments in my career was realizing how our current healthcare system often feels like assembly-line medicine. I witnessed decisions driven by profit margins that overshadowed patient care, leaving everyone—patients and providers alike—feeling disconnected and frustrated. Resulting in significant morale injury, which is the driving cause of burnout among healthcare workers." • "This realization sparked my passion for advocating for a healthcare system that is integrative, compassionate, and community-driven. Imagine a system where patients are offered holistic options like acupuncture during pre-and post-operative care or childbirth and hospitals that provide Reiki, Healing Touch, massage, and Aromatherapy as supportive treatments. A system that prioritizes safe nurse-to-patient staffing ratios and implements innovative strategies to protect staff from violence by patients and visitors. A system that supports nurses, providers, and all healthcare professionals while protecting patients and fostering a safe, healing environment for all." • "I also believe in a single-payer healthcare system like Medicare for All because it makes economic sense and ensures no one is left behind. There are numerous resources on how to get involved in Medicare for All. Many states have single-payer healthcare initiatives in the works. You should all know how to use Google search. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that our current system is unsustainable and puts communities at risk. Together, we can reimagine and create a healthcare system prioritizing humanity, connection, and well-being." • "I invite you to join me in this conversation as we explore ways to make this vision a reality—together, we can ignite the change we want to see in healthcare." What Listeners Can Expect: • "The Transformative Nurse will cover a wide range of topics, including: ◦ Practical tools for self-healing and wellness. ◦ Discussions on holistic nursing and integrative health practices. ◦ Deep dives into systemic healthcare reform and the creation of optimal healing environments. ◦ Case studies, expert interviews, and actionable insights to inspire transformation in your personal and professional life." Closing and Call to Action: • "Thank you for joining me on this journey. If this resonates with you, I invite you to subscribe and tune in for the next episode, where I’ll share my personal healing journey—the challenges I faced, the lessons I learned, and the practices that transformed my life." • "Let’s connect! You can find me on social media platforms like IG and TikTok or subscribe to my Patreon, where your support helps me continue creating meaningful content for this podcast. On Patreon, you’ll also gain access to exclusive content like journaling prompts, guided meditations, live Q&A sessions, and group Reiki circles. And if you found value in this episode, please share it with others who might benefit from this message." Outro Music: (Optional, same as intro music or something uplifting to close out the episode.)
