#236 - 8 Rounds with Dan Hill, Chris Hill and Katie Harvey

New episode is up, and this one's different. Dan usually does this podcast solo with one guest. This time he had three of us in the room, and we went eight rounds on questions I genuinely wasn't expecting. Me, Katie and Chris are all property entrepreneurs, and the three of us host and mentor at the Blueprint summer retreat every year. Dan pulled us together for this one and didn't hold back. Here's what we covered, round by round: Round One: the social media ban for under 16s, and what it actually means for young entrepreneurial people coming up behind us. Round Two: the lessons nobody could have taught us. The ones you only learn by living through them. Round Three: whether AI is going to replace employees, and what that means if you're building a team right now. Round Four: what success actually means, once you strip away the version everyone else sold you. Round Five: a proper uncomfortable one. Are most entrepreneurs actually just unemployable, rather than genuinely entrepreneurial? Round Six: our own best "blueprint", the one framework or principle each of us leans on the most. Round Seven: building a business, freedom or a prison? I've got strong views on this one. Round Eight: our highest value piece of advice, given away for free. If you know me, Dan, Katie or Chris, you might expect four award winning property entrepreneurs to sit here and talk strategy and spreadsheets. That's not what happened. We dropped the ego and got honest, and that's where the good stuff always lives. Success and failure are both predictable. You just need to know what you're looking at. Give it a listen. I think you'll get more out of this one than you expect. 👉🏻 DOWNLOAD A COPY OF OUR BOOK SMALL BUSINESS BIG PROFIT FOR FREE: https://ultimate-fd.webflow.io/small-business-big-profit  👉🏻 HOW FINANCIALLY FIT IS YOUR BUSINESS? #235 - The Whale Hunter

Would you rather have 100 clients paying £100 a year, or two paying £50,000? In this episode to answer that question properly, and it changes how you should think about every part of your business. This episode is a shorter, sharper one. No guest, just me, walking through the single piece of advice I give to every entrepreneur I mentor, the one that has changed how Ultimate FD operates over the past eighteen months. I call it whale hunting. Most business owners chase volume: more clients, more leads, more sardines. I explain why that instinct keeps you overworked and underpaid, and what happens when you shift your focus to fewer, bigger clients instead. We cover why traditional marketing funnels work brilliantly for sardines but fail with whales, why "world class" standards in your branding, website and proposals matter far more once you're chasing bigger fish, and why this shift takes patience. I talk through the long game required to reposition your business, including how Ultimate FD stopped taking on smaller clients and what happened to revenue and team capacity nine months later. If you're stuck managing too many low value clients and wondering why growth feels harder rather than easier, this one is for you. 7 figure entrepreneurs looking to raise their ticket price, tighten their client base and build a business that's actually easier to run will get the most out of it. 👉🏻 DOWNLOAD A COPY OF OUR BOOK SMALL BUSINESS BIG PROFIT FOR FREE: https://ultimate-fd.webflow.io/small-business-big-profit  👉🏻 HOW FINANCIALLY FIT IS YOUR BUSINESS? #234 - The 5 Professionals

New Episode! I have just handed my own methodology a rewrite, and if you have been building your finance function around the Four Professionals, you need to hear what has changed and why. In this episode of The UltimateFD Podcast, I walk you through the Five Professionals, the framework I use with every client, regardless of whether they turn over a million pounds or ten. This episode covers the full pyramid, from the Finance Assistant handling the day to day admin, through the Bookkeeper doing the recs and checks, up to the Finance Manager turning raw data into decisions you can actually use. I explain why mixing these roles together (a mistake I see constantly) causes chaos, and why paying a bookkeeper rate for finance manager work leaves you disappointed every time.I also break down where the Tax Accountant fits, and why asking them for management accounts is one of the most common and costly errors business owners make. Here is where things get interesting… I explain the newly added fifth role, the FD, and make the case for exactly when a business needs one and when it simply does not. I share my practical rules for structuring this team: urgent versus important, internal versus external, and how to work out the right price for the right person without overpaying for underused expertise. Whether you are running your finances solo right now or already have a team in place that is not quite delivering, this episode gives you the exact structure I put in place for every client before anything else moves forward. If you want your business to run on decisions rather than guesswork, start here. 👉🏻 DOWNLOAD A COPY OF OUR BOOK SMALL BUSINESS BIG PROFIT FOR FREE: https://ultimate-fd.webflow.io/small-business-big-profit  👉🏻 HOW FINANCIALLY FIT IS YOUR BUSINESS? #233 - Tax Talks - Team Incentive Masterclass

Ever wondered what actually happens to the shares you hand out when your best employee threatens to walk? I sit down with Tax Expert Tej Gill to answer that exact question, and the answer involves a lot more than a generic "give them equity" chat. On this episode of The UltimateFD Podcast, we get into the mechanics of keeping your best people in the business for the long haul. Anyone who has scaled past 7 figures knows the moment when a bonus stops being enough for the person who is genuinely moving the needle. This episode covers the practical side of team incentives, from HMRC approved schemes through to the messier unapproved options that most entrepreneurs stumble into by accident. Tej breaks down the difference between EMI and CSOP schemes, including the tax treatment, the value limits, and why one suits a smaller growing business while the other works better for a wider pool of staff. We also get into growth shares as an unapproved alternative, and why getting the valuation and structure right from day one stops your star employee getting hit with an unexpected income tax bill on shares that were meant to be a reward, not a burden. Tej also flags the protections every business owner needs before handing out any equity, including bad leaver provisions and drag along rights, so a falling out down the line does not turn into a legal mess. If you have ever considered giving away a slice of your business to keep an A player on board, this episode gives you the actual mechanics before you get anywhere near a solicitor. It is essential listening for any 7 figure entrepreneur thinking about their next senior hire, and for anyone who has already promised someone shares without quite knowing what that means. 👉🏻 JOIN THE UFD REVIEW WAITLIST HERE: https://mailchi.mp/ultimatefd/ufd-review-priority-list-2026  👉🏻 DOWNLOAD A COPY OF OUR BOOK SMALL BUSINESS BIG PROFIT FOR FREE: https://ultimate-fd.webflow.io/small-business-big-profit  👉🏻 HOW FINANCIALLY FIT IS YOUR BUSINESS?
