Episode 66: PAPRIUM with Composer Jredd and Special Guest Mike Levy

We’re back with a super special episode, in more ways than one!  Not only has The VGMbassy returned after a multi-month hiatus, but it also features the reunion of PixelTunes Radio cohosts Ed and Mike Levy (XVGM Radio, Dude You Haven’t Played This Game?!) The duo just received their copies of brand new Genesis beat ’em up PAPRIUM, and they’re honored to have returning guest and VGMbassy theme composer Trevin Hughes (aka Jredd) on the show to share some of the music that he and Groovemaster303 wrote for it. The game features a custom chipset that allows for a greatly expanded selection of sound channels, so you’ll be hearing some incredible music that’s unlike anything you’ve heard from a 16-bit console. We’ve been planning this show for years, and we’re so happy to finally be able to release it. Enjoy!

A huge thank you to Indira J (The Misadventures of Buddy and Friend, Sacrimony) for the amazing VGMbassy artwork and design, and to Trevin Hughes (aka chiptune composer Jredd) for the podcast theme song!

Episode 63: The Music of Phalanx

Episode 63: The Music of Phalanx

Some gamers only know “Phalanx: The Enforce Fighter A-144” as that game with the weird old banjo playing guy on the front of the SNES box. Most were turned off by the strange marketing choice and never gave the game a chance. Ed happened to rent it one day as a kid, and fell in love with the rockin’ soundtrack and smooth gameplay. Today, he’s set out to dispel a lot of the preconceived notions about this cool little shmup, and provide an overview of the game and its various ports. Take a listen to seven iterations of three distinctly different soundtracks, spread across five different versions of the game! With 28 pieces of music packed into a 2 hour show, there’s a lot to listen to. Which is your favorite?

All hail the Prime Minister

Prime minister Ed has created a community that’s full of creative and kind people whom all have come together for one main purpose; great game music. Always informative and humble, here’s hoping that this community never ends. Thanks Ed. We’d be lost without you.

Sincerely,
The Last Rican

Great stuff

Ed’s show is pretty great

A podcast unrivaled in its excellence

There are a lot of podcasts out there doing something that’s along the lines of what this one is doing, but this one is truly doing it right. You’ll never need to look anywhere else for info and conversation about the sexual art of polka. You’d think that would be too niche a subject to sustain a whole podcast, but episode after episode, these guys prove that there’s no end to what can be said about the sexy side of Europe’s greatest music genre. Keep on oompah-ing, guys.
