  2. International Feature: The Raid 2

    APR 22

    International Feature: The Raid 2

For our second Patreon Month recommendation, we’re taking a look at a heavy hitter in the action genre, courtesy of Wait Watcher Kory T. from the World is My Burrito Podcast. This time, we dive into The Raid 2, a film that’s often brought up in conversations about the greatest action movies ever made. Its influence can be felt across modern action cinema, from the slick choreography of John Wick and its sequels to films like Atomic Blonde, Extraction, and even Nobody. But does it live up to that reputation for us? We break down where it excels—and where it might lose us.  Phil’s reaction to the film’s intense violence, especially its graphic depiction of injuries like broken and exposed bones, and a heads-up for listeners who might find that level of brutality hard to watch  The film’s lasting pop culture impact, with its influence stretching beyond movies into gaming and anime, and why it still gets brought up in action conversations today  Whether the story tries to do too much, layering in complex plotlines that may not be compelling enough to justify how difficult they can be to follow  The two-and-a-half-hour runtime, which is a significant jump from The Raid, and whether that added length helps or hurts the overall experience  The camera work, including heavy use of shaky cam that at times feels overdone and distracting rather than immersive  Standout action sequences, especially the iconic kitchen fight and the memorable showdown with “Bat Man” and “Hammer Girl,” which highlight the film at its absolute best Tune in as we unpack one of the most talked-about action films of the last decade and decide where it lands for us. Letterbox'd Synopsis: After fighting his way through an apartment building populated by an army of dangerous criminals and escaping with his life, SWAT team member Rama goes undercover, joining a powerful Indonesian crime syndicate to protect his family and uncover corrupt members of his own force. 🔻You can find all important links for the podcast over at https://linktr.ee/waitforitpodcast🔺 🔻BACKGROUND MUSIC PROVIDED BY: Ocean by KV https://soundcloud.com/kvmusicprod  Free Download / Stream: http://bit.ly/2OCvpHU Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/a8ctDtA7OK8 — Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported  — CC BY 3.0 🔺  Enjoyed the episode? 3. Late To The Party - Stardust

    APR 15

Late To The Party - Stardust

We’re kicking off Patreon Month with Late To The Party, diving into a listener recommendation from Wait Watcher, Vintage! This time, we check out Stardust—a fantasy adventure that somehow slipped past us for years. With its mix of romance, magic, and adventure, we went in curious to see if this was a hidden gem or just a product of its time. As it turns out… it’s a bit of both.  The stacked cast, including Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert De Niro, and how their performances bring a ton of personality and elevate the material  How the movie captures that early 2000s fantasy/sci-fi vibe—ambitious, a little uneven, but still a fun ride overall  The humor, which ends up being a pleasant surprise, with several performances leaning into comedy in ways that really work  The visuals, which can be hit or miss—some moments still look great, while others definitely show their age  A love story and overall plot that feel underdeveloped, especially in the slower first half, but a second half that picks up and delivers a much more entertaining experience Tune in as we break down whether Stardust is worth discovering now or if it’s better left as a nostalgic piece of its era. Synopsis: In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he’ll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm. His journey takes him into a world beyond his wildest dreams and reveals his true identity. 🔻You can find all important links for the podcast over at https://linktr.ee/waitforitpodcast 🔺 🔻BACKGROUND MUSIC PROVIDED BY: "Extenz - Gravity" is under a Creative Commons license Music promoted by BreakingCopyright: https://bit.ly/extenz-gravity 🔺 Enjoyed the episode? 6. International Feature: Sentimental Value

    MAR 18

    International Feature: Sentimental Value

In this International Feature episode, we dive into the 2025 drama Sentimental Value, a slow-burning, emotionally layered film that leans heavily into family, memory, and the weight of the past. With powerful performances and deeply human character work, this one gave us plenty to unpack, from what worked beautifully to what left us a little conflicted. • Stellan Skarsgård delivers a standout performance that anchors the film’s emotional core  • The family dynamics feel lived-in, with a believable sense of shared history and unresolved trauma  • Character interactions come across as raw, genuine, and emotionally vulnerable  • The pacing leans heavily into slow burn territory and we discuss whether it pays off  • Somber but engaging moments help break up the heaviness and keep things compelling  • The film pushes hard on a redemption arc for the father, which at times feels a bit too insistent  • A late-film scene between Agnes and Gustav stands out, and we explore whether that relationship could have been a stronger central focus than Nora’s Letterbox'd Synopsis: Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. 7. Late To The Party - Erin Brockovich

    MAR 11

Late To The Party - Erin Brockovich

On this episode of Late to the Party, we finally sit down to talk about the 2000 legal drama Erin Brockovich. From award-winning performances to its real-life environmental case, we discuss why this film became such a defining movie of the early 2000s and whether it still holds up today. We break down the story, the performances, and some of the storytelling choices that helped make the film both accessible and impactful. • The powerhouse performance from Julia Roberts that ultimately won her the Academy Award for Best Actress • The simplification of the real-life case the film is based on, and whether that choice made the story more accessible or took away from the complexity of the situation • Underdeveloped relationships with some of the side characters, including Erin’s children and George • Why the film works as a classic David vs. Goliath story where the little guy takes on a powerful corporation • Erin’s dynamic with Ed Masry, played by Albert Finney, and why we thought the pairing worked so well on screen If you’ve never seen Erin Brockovich or you’re revisiting it years later like we did, tune in as we break down what works, what doesn’t, and whether this real-life legal drama still packs the same punch. Synopsis: A twice-divorced mother of three who sees an injustice, takes on the bad guy and wins – with a little help from her push-up bra. Erin goes to work for an attorney and comes across medical records describing illnesses clustered in one nearby town. She starts investigating and soon exposes a monumental cover-up.
