How to find really good ideas to write about!

How to find really good ideas to write about!

Welcome to The Write Start podcast. I’m Lisa Iannucci, and this podcast is all about becoming a successful full-time freelance writer. I’ve had a very long career where I’ve written for many local and national magazines and newspapers and written, co-written to, and ghostwritten more than 250 books. This podcast is where I share my experiences and tips and bring on amazing guests who have had successful freelance writing careers too. Let’s get started!

In this episode, I talk about finding ideas. One of the most common comments I have ever had about my writing is “Lisa you’re writing about so much…how do you come up with all of these ideas?” So I wanted to talk about that because there’s more to it than you might think.

There are so many ways to find ideas. I’m going to give you some, but I’m hoping that you go to my website – thewritestartpodcast.com and you’ll see a link to a PDF that provides 25 ways to get ideas. You’ll get some of them in this podcast, but there’s a bunch there too. I’d also love to hear from you if you have other ways of finding ideas for your writing. There is a code in there for a discount on my upcoming course and I will send that out again once I get it up on the site.

I’m excited for our guest today but I have to tell you that in this episode and in my next, I struggled with some audio problems, but I hope you’ll stick with the episode. The issues come and go and mostly happen when I am the one talking. I finally have rectified the problem going forward, but this interview and the next one that you’ll hear were, unfortunately, caught up in the bad audio issues. And for that, I’m so sorry.
    Listen to this episode here!
Today on The Write Start podcast my guest is Laura Fuentes, the creator of MOMables, where she helps busy parents transform their mealtimes and make healthy eating a lifestyle they can sustain long-term as a family. Cindy Begel On Her Successful TV Writing Career, Meeting Lucille Ball and more!

Cindy Begel On Her Successful TV Writing Career, Meeting Lucille Ball and more!

On today’s episode of The Write Start my guest is Cindy Begel and I have to admit that I decided to do this episode purely for selfish reasons because this episode focuses on becoming a television and movie writer and not becoming a typical print journalist -- what I really focus on here. I still think that any writer can learn, and be inspired by, Cindy so I hope you'll listen.
Cindy Begel is a television writer-producer who has worked for the legendary Garry Marshall and Norman Lear. She’s worked on many classic prime time hit shows, including some of my favorite TV shows ever --  Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, The Jeffersons, Head of The Class, Alice, and The New Leave It To Beaver. She has also written for The Martin Short Show, and Mama’s Family. She created/wrote all 52 episodes of the animated series The Kids From Room 402. She wrote feature films for Paramount and Universal Studios.
Cindy has some great stories to tell including her chat with Lucille Ball, dinner with Carol Burnett, making Robin Williams laugh and more!

From RN to Successful Freelance Writer, Author and Podcaster -- Jennifer Fink

From RN to Successful Freelance Writer, Author and Podcaster -- Jennifer Fink

Welcome to Episode 18 of The Write Start. I'm Lisa Iannucci, and this podcast is all about becoming a successful full-time freelance writer. I’ve had a very long career where I’ve written for many national magazines and newspapers and written more than 20 books. It’s my career, not my hobby and, on this podcast, you’ll learn everything you need to know about writing --from finding ideas to landing assignments and, most importantly, making money.
This week on The Write Start my guest is successful full time freelance writer Jennifer L.W. Fink, RN, BSN, a Registered Nurse-turned-writer. She’s the creator of BuildingBoys.net, co-host of the ON BOYS parenting podcast, and author of The First –Time Mom’s Guide to Raising Boys. Jennifer has been published by The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, The Washington Post, FOX News, Parents, Cancer Today and Medscape.

Today she’s here to talk about her career and her book, one I wish I had when I was raising my son. But let’s get into this and find out how she’s been so successful in her full-time freelance writing career.

Also, I have created a course that will launch at the end of August. No fancy title… It’s simply called Become a Successful Freelance Writer but it includes so much. I dig deep into finding ideas, pitching editors and using one article or idea to create multiple assignments. The course is intensive and you will get several resources from me, but most of all you’ll finish the course with a clear path of your writing goals and how to get there.
If you sign up, you will have access to me at any time while you’re taking the course. The outline will be put up on the website shortly, but the course is open for enrollment as of now. Just go to https://the-writer-start.teachable.com/ to sign up. I know there are so many of these courses out there, but I’ve lived what I’m going to teach you and I’ve been teaching courses like this for years. I hope I can help you to finally become the successful full-time freelance writer that you’ve always wanted to be. https://the-writer-start.teachable.com/

Well, that’s it for this week’s edition of The Write Start podcast. Jenn thank you so much for being on the show and thank you all for listening.  Please follow me on Instagram at @thevirgintraveler as well as @thewritestartpodcast and If you like what you heard on this podcast, please share it and leave me a rating or a review wherever you listen to The Write Start.
