    Theologyology Episode 8

In Episode 8, Elise Keller and Elizabeth the Fake Librarian are back again with our friend, Kristin Giacopelli, owner of the Wholeness Center in Rocklin County, NY. After a little break for illness, graduations, and spring yard work (if we are being real) we are back! In the days after our last episode with Kristin, she received so many questions about Jesus from many of her friends, that we brought her back to talk about how we talk about Jesus and answer those questions, about how we know we can trust the Bible, and that Jesus is not just the way, he is THE way—the one and only. A few titles we mentioned in this episode: * The Case for Christ, Lee Strobel * Kingdom of the Cults, Walter Martin * Death to Deconstruction, Joshua S. Porter * Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools, Tyler Staton * Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis * Surprised by Hope, N.T. Wright We also recommended the “Can I trust the Bible?” sermon series from Wesley Huff, and The Bible Recap podcast and Bible reading plan. We are just about to launch our paid content! If you want to lock in $5 per month for the first year, you can pledge your subscription on desktop. Go to the Substack menu, and navigate to your account and subscriptions. Once you find Theologyology, you’ll see an option to pledge a subscription! This will enable us to get some better equipment and software, and intro and outro music!! Keep your eyes peeled for a blog post in this space about the perks of becoming a paid subscriber. Thanks for being a listener. If you want to come on and chat with us, reach out in the comments, or DM us. We would love to talk about Jesus and weird Christian stuff with you! And thanks to Kristin for joining us again. We love to have you. If you want to watch the video recording of this episode, you can hope on over to Youtube by clicking here. Love, Elise and Elizabeth This is a public episode. Theologyology Episode 7

In Episode 7, Elise Keller and Elizabeth the Fake Librarian chat with our friend, Kristin Giacopelli, owner of the Wholeness Center in Rocklin County, NY. Kristin is another one of our friends from Caroline Dooner ‘s Bible Study/God Talk phenomenon over at Problematic on Substack, and an ex-new ager exploring her faith as a Christ follower, and she asks thought-provoking and challenging questions. (Our favorite kind!) This is a long one, but it gets better as we get deeper, and some of the best stuff is after we start saying we should wrap it up. We eventually decided to leave it alllllll in, so when you hear us saying "we can always edit this out" just know--we didn't. Expect this to be part 1! A few things we referenced in this episode below (if we forgot something, just ask!): Elise’s sweatshirt, available at (not joking) antistate.net. Lol Elizabeth mentioned (again) Surprised by Hope by NT Wright, and also How God Became King, from the same author, which I referred to as—something else. But this is what I meant. We also talked about The F*ck it Diet by Caroline Dooner yet again. Elise recommended an episode of The Bible Project podcast: “Who is the Son of Man?” The video of this recording is also available here on Youtube! We also have some small but exciting announcements about the podcast! You can find us now on Spotify, Pocket Casts and Apple Podcasts, as well as Youtube! If you love listening to our chats, please subscribe on whatever platforms you prefer. Next, we are getting ready to launch a paid subscription level to support our work, and help us get a little bit of much-needed hardware and software to improve the quality of our casts. Currently, we have the pledge level set at $5 per month. This is so that folks who are early supporters can pledge that now, before we go live, and lock in that fee. Once subscriptions are turned on, we will revert to the recommended subscription price. It is not super easy to figure out where to pledge your subscriptions, but if you’re a free subscriber you can navigate to manage your subscriptions on desktop and pledge from there. We will announce a timeline within the next week, and in the meantime, would love to engage you in a little discussion about what perks we could offer subscribers without limiting folks from receiving the main content if they aren’t able to pay. Keep your eyes on notes for that! We are a little iffy about offering a paid subscription, but as we realize the time and attention this takes, and incur some minor expenses, we have also had supporters let us know they would to give in some way. We are doing this for joy and for Jesus, and we hope our prayerful decision isn’t going to offend. Please do not feel obligated!! Have a question for us to discuss, or a topic you think we should do a deep dive on? Please let us know in the comments. Thanks for listening! Love, Elizabeth and Elise This is a public episode. Theologyology Episode 5

In Episode 5, we chat with our friend Caroline Dooner, who writes about God now over at Problematic on Substack. Caroline is also the best-selling author of The F*ck It Diet and Tired as F*ck, and she hosts the Problematic Podcast there on Substack and almost anywhere else you listen! We talk a bit about how Caroline started writing about God, and how that brought us (and a lot of other women) together. We also touch on Calvinism a bit, we tackle some questions about Levitical laws, and take on Caroline’s BIG question: why does God make it all so WEIRD and hard to understand?! This one is great fun, and I know because we forgot we were recording a podcast again! Here are some nots about things we mentioned: * Caroline Dooner’s Books, The F*** It Diet and Tired as F***, Podcast, Problematic Substack, and New Age Demons post specifically. * We mentioned two podcast episodes on psychedelics and their spiritual ramifications. Here’s Blurry Creatures EP: 108 Creatures You'll See on DMT with Jed Payne and Haunted Cosmos: Psychedelics, Serpent Gods, & Machine Elves. * Here’s a picture of Elizabeth’s folks’ library. *heart eyes* This was our first guest episode, but we have a few more coming your way right away, and we have plans to have Caroline back imminently. Thanks for following us over from The Fake Library. Elise and Elizabeth will both be bringing you content on their respective pages soon! The video of this recording is also available here! Have a question for us to discuss, or a topic you think we should do a deep dive on? Please let us know in the comments. Thanks for listening! Love, Elizabeth and Elise This is a public episode. Theologyology Episode 4

(This episode is the last of those previously published at The Fake Library. Moving forward, you’ll find new episodes here!) In Episode 4, Elise Keller and Elizabeth the Fake Librarian chat about our Holy Week and Easter, and other topics that have been on our mind in the theologyology realm. We tried a different format, recording a conversation like we tend to have, without one particular topic. We will warn you that this one might not be for little ears, as there is some discussion about the particulars of crucifixion, and some conversation about suicide in the context of Judas. Please note, that not every reference we make is an endorsement of a person or their work. If we recommend a video from a pastor or content creator, that is not necessarily a recommendation of their full body of work. Here are a few of the things we mentioned in this episode: * Elise referenced a video that describes the crucifixion in descriptive detail. It’s Jesus Defeated Death, from Pastor Josh Howerton. * Elizabeth mentioned the Christian fiction novels This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti and the Left Behind Series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins * We also mentioned Death to Deconstruction by Josh S. Porter, which I also wrote about on my publication. I’ll also explain a little more about what I mentioned in the episode about the future of this podcast. We started it here on my publication because we wanted to see if it had legs. Our friends seem to be having fun with it, and we certainly are, so we are going to continue now in earnest. This will start with us migrating over to our new page Theologyology . You can subscribe for free over there if you want to keep receiving new episodes! I’ll have a more in-depth post about the changes coming, but since we mentioned it, I didn’t want to ignore it here. The video of this recording is also available here! Have a question for us to discuss, or a topic you think we should do a deep dive on? Please let us know in the comments. Thanks for listening! Theologyology Podcast Ep 3

(This was originally published at and is being reposted as we migrate our episodes to this space.) Episode 3! This time, Elise Keller and I talk about time, God’s “outside of time-ness”, and we discuss a question from our friend Kristin about why we are even interested in eternal life. Show Notes (things we mentioned that we want to share: * Surprised by Hope, by N.T. Wright * Leaf by Niggle, JRR Tolkien * Here are a couple examples of the visualization of spacetime curvature that occurs as a result of gravity that I mentioned in the episode, plus a resource to learn more about quantum gravity, if my sub-par explanation piqued your interest. The first one does a great job of illustrating how mass increases the curvature, but the second one does a better job of showing what this “looks” like in a 3D plane. Courtesy of the European Space Agency https://www.esa.int/ESA_Multimedia/Images/2015/09/Spacetime_curvature Courtesy of CHRISTOPHER VITALE OF NETWORKOLOGIES AND THE PRATT INSTITUTE * I referenced a quote from Mark Twain while talking about relativity. Go figure, that quote was actually from Einstein which…makes sense a lot more when you think about it. I do think I would have gotten the speaker right if I had remembered the last sentence. Alas. When I mentioned this to my mom because I thought it was funny, she perfectly captured what was going on in my head. She said “I get it, they’re played by the same actor.” And she meant in our minds. lol. Anyway, the actual quote is: “Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity." * We referenced Matthew 10:28: 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 * I mentioned the Kundalini Yoga cult, 3HO, but there are a ton of sources online, and I don’t want to take the responsibility of vetting them, so proceed with caution. There are well-publicized accounts of abuse from the organization and against the leader of the cult. * Of course, we can’t forget to share Elise’s Easter bread! Here’s a picture and the recipe she used. Yummy. The video of this recording is also available here! We hope you have a blessed Easter tomorrow! I know I’m seeing it with new eyes this year. Theologyology Podcast Ep 2

(This was originally published at The Fake Library and is being reposted as we migrate our episodes to this space.) We had so much fun, we decided to keep going! My co-host Elise Keller and I talk about why we decided to do this, specifically, but also why we think this type of discourse is important and beneficial, in general. We mentioned several books in this episode, including Living Like Monks, Praying Like Fools by Tyler Staton, The Unseen Realm by Dr. Michael Heiser (both of which we should probably just link permanently), The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis, including Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra (which I mispronounced in the recording), and That Hideous Strength, and of course The F*** It Diet and Tired as F*** by Caroline Dooner. Speaking of Caroline, we talked a lot about her Problematic Substack (that’s what it’s called, not an editorial comment on my part) and Book Club, which you really ought to check out, as well as her podcast episode with Kara Mosher and though we didn’t mention it by name, her Substack article New Age Demons was instrumental in the phenomenon that we discussed. The video of this recording is also available here! Thanks for your patience as we work out some technical kinks and stretch our podcasting muscles. We look forward to revisiting these topics as we learn. Love, Elizabeth and Elise PS We forgot show notes last week! The book we referred to in Episode 1 was one I also mentioned today: “Living Like Monks, Praying Like Fools” by Tyler Staton, who is also the pastor at Bridgetown Church in Portland Oregon, and the National Director of 24-7 Prayer USA. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit theologyology.substack.com
