There Will Be Bond

A reliably entertaining listen that never takes itself too seriously. What I appreciate most is the balance - you clearly know your Bond and have strong ties within that world, but it never comes across as insider-only or exclusionary. It still feels like an “everyman” conversation, which makes it easy to come along for the ride. The banter is sharp, the humor lands (at least for those of us who share Pete’s sensibilities), and it’s become one of the very few shows I make a point not to miss. On a recent trip to London, I even skipped Duke’s in favour of the American Bar at The Savoy—partly in deference to Pete’s long-standing view that the whole Duke’s-as-Bond-canon notion is, at best, a triumph of marketing over evidence. Seemed only right to stay on-message. In short: knowledgeable without being precious, connected without being cliquey, and consistently good company. And, importantly, never a bother.

Pete Brooker’s wonderful James Bond podcast was recently rebranded but nothing has changed in terms of content and entertainment. Thoughtful and innovative, Pete discusses the world of James Bond across the spectrum and content creators like him are pretty much all we have during this lean period of the film series. Pete and his guests (always great ones) break down moments of a film, the music, style, Bond locations, brands and much more. I have tuned in for years and own two copies of his incredible book (From Tailors with Love) with fellow Bond expert Matt Spaiser and will continue to listen (and watch via YouTube). In the Bond community Pete is one of the go-to voices who not only knows the world but is uniquely entertaining. No offense to any other creator, but Pete brings the humor many can’t match.
