Break the Cycle: Breaking the Cycle of Sin

September 13, 2026 – Breaking The Cycle — Breaking the Cycle of Sin Series: Breaking the Cycle Title: Breaking the Cycle of Sin Question: How can I win the battle within? Central Truth: Salvation is instant, but transformation is a process. My spirit was brought to life in a moment, but my soul is learning day by day to submit to the Spirit of God. Key Thoughts • The battle with sin takes place in our mind, will, and emotions. • Our old patterns have been developing for years, so we should get ready for a fight. • The battle is ultimately about who is going to lead my life. • We bring the soul under the control of the spirit by changing what we feed it. • We must stop feeding the wrong things and start feeding the right things. • Transformation takes time, truth, discipline, and often accountability. Discussion Questions Why do you think Christians sometimes become discouraged or even question their salvation when they continue to struggle with sin? How does understanding the difference between justification, sanctification, and glorification help us understand that struggle? The message says, “The battle is over who will control my life—my soul or my spirit.” What does it look like when your mind, will, or emotions are controlling you instead of the Spirit? Which of those three—mind, will, or emotions—is usually the biggest battleground for you? What are some patterns, reactions, or habits from your “old life” that can be difficult to change even after becoming a follower of Jesus? Why does simply knowing something is wrong not always make it easy to stop? “The soul is brought under control of the spirit when we change what we feed it.” What are some things we regularly feed our minds and emotions that make our battle with sin harder? Are there things you need to stop feeding in your life? What does it practically look like to “start feeding the right things”? Beyond reading the Bible, what habits, relationships, or disciplines have helped strengthen your walk with God? “Salvation is instant, but transformation is a process.” How does that truth give you both encouragement and responsibility in your battle with sin? What is one specific area where you sense God calling you to stop feeding the old life and begin feeding the new? Quick Links: theroad.tv/response - Have questions or need prayer? House to House: Faith That Lives at Home

Sunday, August 30, 2026 - House to House - Faith That Lives at Home Question: What kind of faith are we teaching our family in our homes? Truth: The faith we practice at home today is the faith our children are most likely to believe, live, and pass on tomorrow. · Healthy homes start with parents whose hearts belong completely to God. · If Jesus isn’t Lord of your life, He’ll never be Lord of your home. · God gives us six building blocks to have a faith that will live at home. BUILDING BLOCK #1: LIVE THE FAITH YOU WANT YOUR FAMILY TO FOLLOW. · Our children may not always do what we say, but they are being shaped by what they see. BUILDING BLOCK #2: TEACH GOD'S WORD ON PURPOSE. · Looking for answers in Scripture teaches your child that God's Word is worth searching. BUILDING BLOCK #3: MAKE FAITH PART OF EVERYDAY CONVERSATION. · Faith that lasts isn't built only in big spiritual moments, but also through ordinary conversations. BUILDING BLOCK #4: BUILD RHYTHMS THAT MAKE FAITH NORMAL. · We have to decide what matters and then build our lives around it. BUILDING BLOCK #5: LET GOD''S WORD SHAPE HOW YOUR FAMILY THINKS AND ACTS. · Your home should have Truth strong enough to guide you and grace deep enough to restore you when you fail. BUILDING BLOCK #6: DECIDE WHAT YOUR HOME WILL BE KNOWN FOR. · Healthy homes don't happen by accident. They’re built with intention. Every home is preaching a sermon—make sure the clearest message yours preaches is this: Jesus is Lord. Quick Links: theroad.tv/response - Have questions or need prayer? Malachi: What Can I Do to Keep My Relationship with God from Growing Cold?

Question: What can I do to keep my relationship with God from growing cold? Truth: What you stop breathing life into will eventually die. Scripture: Book of Malachi 3 warning signs of a heart that is growing cold toward God: Cold hearts forget reality. Cold hearts allow present circumstances to distort eternal reality. You cannot let what you feel in the moment make you forget what is true. Cold Hearts give God what’s left instead of what He deserves. You cannot build a deep relationship with someone you only give your leftovers to. Whatever gets your attention eventually gets your affection. Cold hearts tolerate what God wants confronted. Most major problems begin as ignored minor problems. What you refuse to confront will eventually shape you. Hard conversations are never as hard when the problems are still small. Ignored problems don’t heal themselves. Questions for discussion: 1. What are some early warning signs that your relationship with God may be growing cold? 2. What currently helps you communicate honestly with God—and what most often distracts you from listening to Him? 3. When you examine your time, energy, and attention, where might God be receiving your leftovers instead of your best? 4. The sermon said, “Nearness does not equal intimacy.” What is the difference between being around the things of God and being genuinely close to God? 5. What unresolved problem, hidden compromise, or neglected area might God be asking you to address before it grows larger? 6. Read Malachi 3:7. What would “returning to God” look like practically for you this week, and how can this group help you take that step? 7. What is one specific thing you need to stop, start, or address this week to breathe life back into your relationship with God—or with your spouse, parent, child, or friend—and when exactly will you do it? August 16, 2026 - Zechariah: When You Want to Quit

August 16, 2026 - Little Books Big Message: Zechariah – When You Want to Quit Zechariah 4:1–10 Central Truth: Don’t quit because the work is bigger than you—God never intended you to finish it without Him. Key Thoughts There are some things you can’t do. Faith isn’t pretending you don’t have limitations; faith is knowing where to take them. There are some things you can’t do alone. Isolation is where quitting grows. Connection is where endurance grows. There are some things only God can do. God’s work is done through human effort but not by human effort. Don’t make a permanent decision because of a temporary mountain. God remembers. Even when you can’t see what He is doing, He has not forgotten you. Discussion Questions What makes you want to quit? What kinds of circumstances tend to drain you the most—lack of resources, long seasons of struggle, opposition, disappointment, or feeling that nothing is changing? What “mountain” are you facing right now?
Read Zechariah 4:7. What situation in your life currently feels too big, too complicated, or even impossible? Why is admitting “I can’t do this” sometimes an important step of faith?
How can recognizing our limitations move us from self-reliance toward dependence on God? Who has God placed in your life to help you keep going?
Why do you think isolation makes quitting easier? What would it look like for you to let someone into an area where you are struggling? Where are you trying to accomplish something only God can do?
Read Zechariah 4:6 and John 15:5. What is the difference between doing your part faithfully and trying to control the outcome? What is your “next stone”?
Instead of worrying about finishing the entire journey, what is one small act of faithfulness God may be asking you to take this week? Weekly Challenge Identify one area where you have been tempted to quit. Don’t try to solve everything this week. Ask God, “What is my next faithful step?” Then take it. August 9, 2026 - Little Books Big Message - Haggai: When God Isn't First, Nothing Else Fits

Central Truth: When God's people put Him first, everything else in life begins to come back into order. Key Thoughts: • Misaligned priorities eventually produce misaligned lives. • God invites us to regularly evaluate our relationship with Him. • Obedience restores intimacy with God. • God blesses surrendered hearts, not neglected relationships. Discussion Questions: Have you ever experienced a season when life just felt "out of sync"? Looking back, what do you think was contributing to that feeling? Haggai challenged God's people because they had prioritized their own comfort over God's purposes. What are some good things that can quietly become greater priorities than God in our lives today? Haggai says, "Give careful thought to your ways." Why do you think regular self-evaluation is so difficult? What are some practical ways we can honestly evaluate our walk with God? The sermon said, "Money is a wonderful servant, but a terrible savior." In what subtle ways are people tempted to trust money, success, or comfort more than they trust God? How can we guard against that? The message emphasized that obedience reignites relationship. Can you share a time when taking a step of obedience brought you closer to God or renewed your spiritual life? The closing illustration reminded us that when the first button is off, everything else is out of alignment. What is one practical step you can take this week to put God back in first place in an area where you've drifted? Weekly Challenge: This week, spend time asking God to reveal any area where your priorities have become misaligned. Choose one specific act of obedience that puts Him first—whether it's spending time in His Word, serving someone, trusting Him with your finances, or simply saying "yes" to something He's been prompting you to do. August 2, 2026 - Little Books Big Message - Zephaniah: God Wants to Sing Over You

Central Truth: God's judgment is real, but His deepest desire is not to condemn us—it is to restore us. When we seek Him with humble hearts, we discover that God delights in us and rejoices over us with singing. Key Thoughts • Sin is not just breaking God's rules—it is replacing God with something else. • God's warnings are expressions of His love, giving us time to return before judgment comes. • Repentance means seeking God daily through humility and obedience. • God's ultimate goal is redemption, not rejection. He longs to welcome His children home. Discussion Questions The sermon defined sin as "replacing God rather than simply breaking God's rules." What are some modern idols that compete for our hearts, and why are they often so difficult to recognize? Zephaniah describes both outright idolatry and "God plus something else" (syncretism). Which do you think is the greater temptation for Christians today, and why? The message challenged us with the statement, "God is not indifferent to our indifference." What are some subtle ways we can drift into ignoring God without intentionally rejecting Him? Zephaniah calls us to seek God, seek righteousness, and seek humility (2:3). Which of those three areas do you most need to pursue right now, and what is one practical step you can take this week? Zephaniah 3:17 paints the picture of God delighting in His people and singing over them. How does that image change the way you think about God's heart toward those who repent and return to Him? The sermon ended with the reminder that "God has already made His choice—He's waiting for you to choose Him." Is there an area of your life where you sense God inviting you to return, surrender, or trust Him more fully? Quick Links: theroad.tv/response - Have questions or need prayer? July 26, 2026 - Little Books Big Message - Habakkuk: God Has Good Reviews

Question: How do you trust God when what you see doesn’t match what you believe? Truth: When you don’t understand what God is doing, remember who He’s always been. Scripture: Habakkuk; Psalm 13:1; Matthew 26:36-46; Proverbs 3:5 When life doesn’t match our expectations, our confidence gets tested and our commitment gets revealed. 4 steps to trust God when life doesn’t make sense: 1) Bring your questions to God. You can wrestle with God without walking away from God. 2) Release your expectations. Faith is trusting God’s plan when He doesn’t follow ours. 3) Surrender what you can’t control. Sometimes God gives enough direction to require trust, but not enough detail to eliminate faith. Responsibility is not the same as control. 4) Trust in what you do know when you don’t know what God is doing. Peace doesn’t come from understanding everything God is doing. Peace comes from remembering who God is. Questions for more discussion: 1. When has life turned out differently than you expected, and how did that affect your trust in God? 2. What does it look like to wrestle with God without walking away from Him? 3. Which is harder for you: trusting God’s timing, trusting His plan, or surrendering control? Why? 4. Have you ever seen God work in a way you did not expect but later realized was good? 5. What are you trying to control right now that you need to trust God with? 6. What do you already know about God that can sustain you in what you do not understand today? Quick Links: theroad.tv/response - Have questions or need prayer?
