    The Importance of The Incarnation

    The Importance of The Incarnation

The first week of December, Andy Stanley stated the following.
“If somebody can predict their own death and then their own resurrection, I’m not all that concerned about how they got into the world.”
“Christianity doesn’t hinge on the truth or even the stories around the Birth of Jesus.”
Does it matter “Who” was born that day? Why and How?
Also if people might struggle with the “incarnation story” wouldn’t they also struggle with the “resurrection story”?
    1 John 4:2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;
[1Ti 3:16 ESV] Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
Necessity that God had to provide a solution to Genesis RebellionThe proto-evangelium — the first Gospel (e- van –gel – yum)
[Gen 3:14 NASB] The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life;[Gen 3:15 NASB] And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel."More than a talking snake; Great Cosmic battle, where the seed of Eve will have the tactical advantage.
Long Ago, many times, many ways, God spoke to our fathers. [Heb 1:1 ESV] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,[Heb 1:2 ESV] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Did He? Oh Yes![Isa 9:6 ESV] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.[Isa 9:7 ESV] Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
[Mat 1:22 ESV] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:[Mat 1:23 ESV] "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us).He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
[Heb 1:3 ESV] He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,[Heb 1:4 ESV] having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.[Heb 1:5 ESV] For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son, today I have begotten you"? Or again, "I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son"?[Heb 1:6 ESV] And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him.”
Why couldn’t Jesus just step out of Heaven, go the cross and call it done?
The necessity of a God/Man![Heb 2:10 ESV] For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.[Heb 2:11 ESV] For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,
[Heb 2:14 ESV] Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,[Heb 2:15 ESV] and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
[Heb 2:17 ESV] Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in

    The Five Solas!

    Reformation Sunday: The Five Solas
During the 16th Century. The reformers were protesting
    Protestants . Protestors against Catholicism.
Battle Lines: Authority: Church Authority VS Biblical AuthoritySalvation: Synergy VS Monergy.
God’s Word is interconnected. You can’t talk about one theology with it leading to another theology.
The Five Guides protect us from man-made religion which war against Jesus Christ.
The goal of the world is simple
Anything but Jesus Christ. Pagan religions, secular humanism. Or Jesus Christ +. . . . . Cults, heresies, TBN, prosperity preachers
Sola Scriptura - Scripture alone[2Ti 3:16 ESV] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,[2Ti 3:17 ESV] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Concerning divisions in the church: [1Co 4:6 ESV] I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.
Written Word Inspired by the Holy Spirit. [2Pe 1:19 ESV] And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,[2Pe 1:20 ESV] knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.[2Pe 1:21 ESV] For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Sola Christus - Christ aloneJesus Christ is the only mediator. Penal Substitutionary atonement
[Jhn 14:5 ESV] Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?"[Jhn 14:6 ESV] Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.[Jhn 14:7 ESV] If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him."
[1Ti 2:5 ESV] For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,[1Ti 2:6 ESV] who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Sola Gratia - Grace alone Unmerited Grace:
[Eph 2:8 ESV] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,[Eph 2:9 ESV] not a result of works, so that no one may boast.[Eph 2:10 ESV] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
God saved me, Despite Me, not because of me. [Psa 14:2 ESV] The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.[Psa 14:3 ESV] They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
Paul Reveals how Grace Works. [2Co 12:9 ESV] But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.[2Co 12:10 ESV] For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Sola Fide - Faith alone[Rom 5:1 ESV] Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.[Rom 5:2 ESV] Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
You do not create faith. God gives you Faith[Rom 12:3 ESV] For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
[1Co 12:9 ESV] to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

Intro to the Gospel of Mark

Intro to the Gospel of Mark

Gospel Survey of Mark; the Action Gospel!
    Who Wrote it and when?
Mark: No name in the book. So how do we know. Early church fathers. It is cited by Papias, Irenaeus, the Muratorian Canon (most likely), Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, Origen, and Jerome. Papias, for example, writes:3And the elder said this: “Mark became an interpreter of Peter; as many things as he remembered he wrote down accurately (though certainly not in order4) the things said or done by the Lord. For he neither heard the Lord nor followed him, but he came later—as he said with reference to Peter who taught whenever the need arose,5 but he did not [teach] according to the arrangement of the oracles of the Lord,6 with the result that Mark did not err7 when he thus wrote certain things as he recalled them. For he planned out one goal ahead of time,8 namely, to leave out nothing which he heard and not to falsify any [of the words of Peter].”9
When & WhereThe earliest gospel with an authorship of between A.D. 55 to A.D. 70. In Rome.
Mark has connectionsPeter[Act 12:12 ESV] When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.
Peter mentions Mark. [1Pe 5:13 ESV] She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son.
Paul and Barnabas [Act 13:13 ESV] Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem,
Big Fight because of Mark. [Act 15:37 ESV] Now Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark.[Act 15:38 ESV] But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work.[Act 15:39 ESV] And there arose a sharp disagreement, so that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus,[Act 15:40 ESV] but Paul chose Silas and departed, having been commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.
Paul trusts Mark again. [2Ti 4:11 ESV] Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry.
The preparation for Jesus’ ministry - Mk 1:2-13
[Mar 1:1 ESV] The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.[Mar 1:2 ESV] As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, "Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way,[Mar 1:3 ESV] the voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,'"
[Mar 1:4 ESV] John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.[Mar 1:5 ESV] And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
[Mar 1:6 ESV] Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey.
[Mar 1:7 ESV] And he preached, saying, "After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.[Mar 1:8 ESV] I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."[Mar 1:9 ESV] In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.[Mar 1:10 ESV] And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.[Mar 1:11 ESV] And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."[Mar 1:12 ESV] The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.[Mar 1:13 ESV] And he was in
